It’s f*ck wit Dre Day over at The NY Times which published an article yesterday ripping the legendary producer’s best-selling Beats By Dre headphones.
If you’re a black male, you probably own one of these sleek $300 headphones just because you will buy anything a celebrity endorses.
According to a music expert interviewed by The NY Times, the sexy headphones produce way too much bass, which distorts the music, and besides that, they suck.
“In terms of sound performance, they are among the worst you can buy,” says Tyll Hertsens, editor in chief of InnerFidelity.com, a site for audiophiles. “They are absolutely, extraordinarily bad.” Source
The Times article goes on to say that back in the day, manufacturers such as Bose “marketed high-priced audio equipment by emphasizing technical merits like frequency response, optimum impedance, ambient noise attenuation and so on.”

if a chef, personal trainer, stylist, etc gets one celebrity client, they’re quick to toss “celebrity” in front of their trade all cuz they know fools will flock to them – not cuz of their service, but because of the ‘celebrity.’

My sister and I have been arguing about it, I’m against it, she’s for it. My family is full of gun collectors, hunters, and chit and all of us have been exposed to guns at a young age. Were taken out to shoot and we learned the safety of guns early ( y Godfather is police) so it’s the norm in my family to have them.

I listened to those things in the Apple store when they first came out. I didn’t hear anything worth my $300.

I’ve always maintained that they didn’t appear to be worth the money. I still feel that way… I would NEVER pay that much money for earphones.

I listened to the Beats by Dre in Best Buy, and I wasn’t impressed at all. I bought the Bose QC for $300, but they’re a business expense and worth it. When these go out, I’ll buy another pair for $300 because the Bose are that good. I use these for work and for listening to music.

thing about audiophiles their opinion only matters to those who are in the field. if it sounds good to you then who cares what they think. its like drinking moscato with anything other than desert if thats what you like thats what you like. personally i love my Beats i have the pro model that dre has on in the pic which are 499. hiphop music is bass heavy so that sound we want to hear is not the same balanced sound an audiophile would want to hear.

I got them when they first came out 3 years ago, I worked at an electronic store and got them for 70% off as a special employee promotion and too this day i think it was worth it! I seriously can’t listen to cheap headphones anymore because i notice the difference

Whoa, whoa and whoa. First…most folks don’t know what an audiophile is. Here’s a site to get you started…www.mcintoshlabs.com. Use the dealer locator and go in for a listen. They’ll ask your budget…tell em 10 thousand. Make sure to take music that you know well so you’re prepared when they ask for it. Ask to hear some of their material first…no hip hop/r&b…ask for something like coltrane or miles davis or real rock and roll…they will have it. Don’t be alarmed when asked to sit in the sweet spot for listening…just do it dammit. After you finish skeeting all over yourself (ladies specifically)…play your own music. If it’s popular hip hop or r&b…you will probably ask that it be turned down/off immediately…it will sound that horrible. I dare you to take ella or donny hathaway or some well produced hip hop…it’s like drinking hunch punch. Ask to hear the best set up in the spot…probably will top 100 thousand…you’ll never look at music the same. And you don’t have to spend that much to get the same sound…just gotta be willing to research/learn and do it yourself. That goes from finding the right speaker company to making them in your house/garage/whatever.
Now ask to listen to good headphones…the sound should be similar to what you heard coming from those big azz speakers. Good ones are not cheap…4/5 hundred dollars is cheap. Go to walmart and save your money ballers.

Sandra Rose you can be so negative and the stereotypes of young black men is uncalled for, my son is a young black man who is really into music so I offered to buy him a pair of Beats by Dr Dre I thought they were top of the line because Dre is a music producer but my son said he didn’t want them because they were not worth the cost and this was a couple of months after they first came out.

I totally agree with you that Beats headphones suck and all, but that second sentence sounds downright racist – or in the very least, prejudice?
This shouldn’t be about race at all. What it should should be about is that anybody who bought these while Dre owned the company was ripped off by Dre and anyone who buys them now is getting ripped off by Apple. Case closed!
