Disgraced quarterback Michael Vick has signed a 2-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles under coach Tony Dungy. The Eagles will hold a press conference this morning to announce the signing.
Sources tell ESPN’s Chris Mortensen the deal is worth $1.6 million with an option for the second year at $5.2 million. Vick can also earn an additional $3 million in incentives over the two year term.
But that likely won’t be enough loot for Vick who is known to burn through cash and lacks even the basic money management skills.
Vick, who was the #1 draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2001, fell on hard times when he was busted for dogfighting. He was convicted and sentenced to 23 months in a federal prison in August 2007.
Vick served his time and was released on July 20. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick’s suspension allowing him to participate in the NFL preseason workouts aqnd team meetings. While Vick can play in the final 2 games of the preseason, he will not be allowed to play in the regular season unless he is fully reinstated by the league.
Goodell has said he will consider reinstating Vick by October 18-19 at the latest.
Team owner Joe Banner said he spoke with the National Humane Society before signing Vick, who will go head-to-head with quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and backup Kevin Kolb for the starting job. “I pretty much lobbied to get him here,” McNabb said. “I believe in second chances and what better place to get a second chance than here with this group of guys. … He’s no threat to me, not for Kolb. We had the opportunity to add another weapon to our offense.”

Good for Vick. I thought the penalty was too harsh anyway. But, we learn from our experiences…maybe that one will make him a better person.

Hello All, I haven’t posted in a while but I just had to share this with you. On an AOL.com message board, white folks are still dogging Mike so here’s what I posted. Enjoy:
Yeah, just that, he’s a dog killer, an animal killer, not a child killer. A young MD man, a young WHITE boy, just got mauled to death by 2 pit bulls and most white folks think that these dogs shouldn’t be put to death. Hell, if it were my son lying dead in my home, mauled to death by 2 dogs, I’d have those dogs coming off the grill with mustard, chili and onions. Meaning, these dogs would be dead dogs! After all, they are animals and in the Bible, they ate baby animals, sacrificed baby animals (lambs) all the time because THEY WERE ANIMALS. Don’t get me wrong, I have a 14 yr old German Shepard and I love her dearly but damn, she’s a dog. And you think animals are going to heaven? If we manage to make it into those pearly gates, what we’ll see running up and down those streets paved with gold ain’t gonna be our pet dogs and cats but little nappy-headed African children who starved to death. “Suffer little children that come unto me ’cause thine is the kingdom of heaven.” So if you have problems loving black folks, or forgiving anyone for that matter, I suggest you make your reservation in hell. I’m just saying. Peace.

If you love animals more than people, there is definitely something wrong with your azz. I mainly see this type of inappropriate affection coming from older white women. I had one on my job. She told me that she doesn’t like people and prefer dogs and cats. What an asshole.

I had to come back to this post after having a breakfast convo with hubby. I read what you wrote to him because he basically said what you did. Mike was thrown under the bus to me. Hubby and I also talked about PETA. They are all for animal rights but do they drive a car with cloth seats vs leather. Do they not wear leather coats/gloves/shoes. I bet a buck they have a steak marinating for dinner. LOL.
