Fans are concerned about former “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson’s health after his appearance on the Fox TV show earlier this month.
Jackson, 69, left American Idol in 2014, but he returned to the show this month to mentor the contestants.
Jackson’s weight loss journey began 2 decades ago when he tipped the scales at 350 pounds due to type 2 diabetes. He underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2003.

Jackson was rushed to the emergency room when his blood sugar spiked over 500. He said his medical emergency was “a huge wake up call.”
During a 2013 episode of “The Doctors,” Jackson said he didn’t believe he would ever be diagnosed with diabetes. “It always happens to somebody else, even though it ran in my family, my dad had it,” he said. “I never thought it would happen to me.”

“I shouldn’t have been shocked to learn that I had diabetes, but I was. Yes, I was carrying about 350 pounds on my five-foot-eleven frame and both my parents had had the disease, two factors that put you at risk for type 2 diabetes,” he wrote in a November 2018 Instagram post.
Jackson appeared frail and gaunt when he returned to “American Idol” earlier this month. Fans took to social media looking for answers.
@PATRIOT2117 tweeted: “Y’all this is Randy Jackson! I’m beginning to think that Ozempic and all of these other GLP1 medications for weight loss need to be discontinued and against the law. This is insane!”

Jackson previously co-founded a nutrition company, Unify Health Labs, to help others who were struggling with their weight.
“I think if I had not figured it all out, I would’ve gained at least half, if not more, of that weight back,” Jackson told PEOPLE in May 2022. “And I’m proud to know that we did something that helps me, that helps everyone else, and takes the guesswork out of it for everybody.”
