There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when R&B/Soul legend Diana Ross serenaded Michael Jackson’s mom, Katherine Jackson, at her sold out Las Vegas residency show. Ms. Ross, 75, sang a rendition of Michael Jackson’s hit “You Are Not Alone”. Diana posted a video on her Instagram page on Saturday, Aug. 17 (watch video below).
Katherine Jackson doesn’t look happy, probably because she has endured years of public attacks on her son Michael’s legacy. At age 89, she should be enjoying her twilight years, not worrying about former friends attempting to tarnish Michael’s lifetime achievements.
Yes, that is Diana’s beautiful daughter Rhonda Ross in the video. As you know, Rhonda was fathered by Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records. Gordy signed Michael and his brothers, the Jackson 5, to their first major record deal in 1968, after Gladys Knight discovered them at the Apollo Theater and sent him a demo tape of their music in 1967.
“You Are Not Alone” was the second single off Michael’s ninth studio album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (1995). It was written by now incarcerated singer/songwriter R. Kelly in response to personal struggles in Michael’s life. “You Are Not Alone” earned a Guinness World Record for the first song to debut at No. 1 in the 37-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “You Are Not Alone” was the final No. 1 hit in Michael’s stellar career.
