Actor Danny Glover did not mince words on what he thinks of US President Barack Obama in a recent interview. The highly regarded actor who received critical acclaim for his role in The Color Purple, said he didn’t see any difference between the agendas of the previous White House occupant, George Bush, and the current president.
“I think the Obama administration has followed the same playbook, to a large extent, almost verbatim, as the Bush administration. I don’t see anything different,” the activist movie actor said of Obama’s policies in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Middle East. “On the domestic side, look here: What’s so clear is that this country from the outset is projecting the interests of wealth and property. Look at the bailout of Wall Street. Why not the bailout of Main Street?”
Glover is among a growing chorus of African-American opinion leaders who are publicly and privately expressing varying degrees of resignation, disappointment, and outright anger concerning a presidency on which so many hopes have ridden. Read More…
Of course, Obama dismissed the criticism, saying it would be wrong for him to narrowly focus on the troubles blacks face in the recession because he is the president of the entire United States and not just president of a small minority.
It’s funny Obama said that because we here at Sandrarose.com pointed out that very same standoffishness between the Obama campaign and the black community right from the beginning.
Obama pretty much avoided campaigning in black communities during his historic run for president, and at the time blacks had no problems with that. So why have a problem with it now that Obama continues to turn a deaf ear to the needs of blacks?
Obama, in his extreme arrogance, knew that he already had the black vote locked in and therefore he did not have to work for it.
Nothing has changed. Obama did not campaign as a black presidential hopeful so why expect him to act like a black president who cares about the needs of his people?

Sandra, I can’t believe I’m even typing this, but for the first time I agree with your comments on this Obama post. No one complained when he showed pics of his family and only predominately showed his mother side. Now, I say that and for good reason. His father was not a strong figure in his life. He identified with his mother’s family as the individual’s who gave him love and security. This is not his fault, blame his father. But, with that said, he always made it clear he was NOT RUNNING AS A BLACK MAN. He was running as a man who happen to be BLACK!

but i can name 2 things Obama did differently than Bush and thats making Christmas Eve a federal holiday! another thing he did differently was the amount of our annual raises. Bush gave military and civilians a bigger bonus than Obama is!

Good morning all, because of Sandra’s anti-Obama stance, I’d made up my mind never to post here again but here I am, I just can’t resist. I’ve been an Obama fan since day one but I’m very disappointed in him for not bringing our troops home. In 2001, we should have invaded Afghanistan and NOT Iraq, which has never been a threat to the U.S. We should have gone after Bin Laden with everything we have. Now, there’s no telling where he is and more of our young soldiers will die for nothing. Anyway, glad to be back among the family. I’m not sure what to think about Danny Glover’s intentions here. I know he’s very politically active but he has also been one of the few black celebrities to have attended the Bohemian Grove. I’ve always been a bit skeptical of him since I found that out.
Anyway I think we’ll only start to see an increasing number of black leaders and celebrities come out with their disapproval of the Obama administration in 2010.
I was just listening to Steve Harvey interviewing Obama this morning. That is all Obama needs to do to stay on our good side. Come on one our radio shows every once in a blue moon, stroke the host’s ego and its politics as usual. He was on there pumping the H1N1 vaccine propaganda.

Back to the topic. I think Obama misunderstood what Danny Glover said. Where did Danny Glover say he should focus on the troubles blacks face in the recession? What I got from the “Main Street” comment is that Danny Glover feels Obama needs to focus more on “Main Street” meaning the “People” of this country vs. bailing out Wall Street. Bailing out banks, CEO’s, people who made the economy the way it is now. I don’t think Danny Glover’s comments had any racial undertones. I don’t know why Obama made it racial. He thinks whenever black people speak out against him that it is racial. He needs to stop that. Now I’m not going to be a crab in a bucket. My mom always said black people are like crabs in a bucket. i think more and more people will begin voicing their opinions. and the bailout, which we’ve been convinced HAD to be done, is what started it all. You have mortgage companies refusing to work with homeowners so they can keep their properties, even though an Act was quickly passed by Obama. In the end, the mortgage companies are not working with a lot of homeowners. And for anyone who says they are, explain all the empty houses that have been sitting in and around your neighborhood.
I think if your situation hasn’t changed and you still have ur career on track, didn’t lose any cars or ur house, can still pay for college ed and shop here/there, ur more likely to say he’s doing a great job. If you’re on the flip side of it by any means or completely, you dont feel the same way. I dont see anything different. Would we be saying the same thing if McCain had won? Probably. To a certain extent I believe the state of our country just is what it is; some of it Obama/McCain would have inherited anyways.

I’m beginning to cosign with Sandra on Obama. The ever loyal black race didn’t hold Obama to any promises as it relates to our community as a whole, like say gays/lesbians, women, Latinos, etc. They demanded “change,” yet all we spouted was, “President Obama is not the president of black America” blah, blah, blah, so he doesn’t owe us anything. Other groups thought differently, and guess what? He listened to them. Other groups know the collective power they have. We have still yet to realize how much we have because we’re scared. Scared of what others will think.
I still like President Obama, but I am becoming a bit disillusioned. Did I think he was a savior. Nope. He nor any other president will ever be, but I expected a bit more from him especially as it relates to our troops.
P.S. This healthcare reform is going to be the death of us. Wait and see. JMO. That is all.
