Tonisha Lashay Barker jumped from a Tennessee highway overpass with her toddler son in her arms. Police say Barker, 26, and her 21-month-old son Jonathan Jones were killed.
The tragedy began when deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department received 911 calls about a woman who had attempted to crash her car into a gas pump at a Shell gas station on Law Road.
Witnesses say the female driver got out of the car with a small child and walked toward the nearby Interstate 40 overpass.
A few minutes later, another 911 caller said his truck was hit by a “large object” that had fallen from the bridge.
Authorities found the bodies of Barker and her son in a ditch near Exit 93.
Sheriff’s spokesman Tom Maples told WKRN investigators are trying to determine a motive for the murder-suicide.
Barker’s grandmother said she had been depressed for days. Her job at a Covid-19 testing site had ended last month.
