Kids ‘R’ Kids terminated the contract of a preschool location in Georgia after a viral photo shows white kids eating while Black children wait for their food.
The image was taken from a surveillance system that is accessible by parents via mobile apps.
Outraged Twitter users demanded answers after the photo went viral.
“Look at this photo of teachers serving white children while the black children watch & wait for their food. PLEASE RT. This is Kids R Kids in Sandy Springs, GA. Surprised???”
Tariq Nasheed and other social media activists retweeted the photo, as it went viral.
One Twitter user with the handle @_solowKi wrote: “Imagine seeing 0 black children with food in front of them & saying you need context. It’s no saving some of y’all.”
She added: “& they’re trying to justify this bullshit by saying they feed kids by diet. Which pissed me off even more, so I want this viral so everyone involved is fired. Beyond insultin.”
David Vinson, President & Chief Executive Officer of Kids ‘R’ Kids International, Inc., responded to the backlash on social media.
“After further review and much consideration of the photo/video in question, our company has decided to terminate that franchisee’s Kids ‘R’ Kids contract and branding, effective immediately, leaving them to operate independently.
We apologize to the family, the community and all of those impacted by this situation and will use this as a learning tool to remind our Kids ‘R’ Kids staff on the importance of diversity and inclusivity.”
