It’s difficult to think about gossip when there is so much devastation going on in Haiti right now. I am considering going out to help collect food and clothing for the people of Haiti. I have to do something other than sit here and write about gossip which is meaningless and unimportant in light of this disaster.
CNN is providing live coverage of the tragedy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Click the image above or click HERE to watch live coverage.
Bravo Sandra!!! Good for you!!!!
Again, God Bless all those who were effected by this tragedy!
I think I’m gonna get with my FVSU alumni chapter president to see if we can do something. We may be able to donate food, clothes, etc.
And we cant forget about the people in Mississippi that are without water due to the cold weather.
I pray for them all.
Amen, Sandra!
Sandra, so far you’re making me smile today. No cuts at the POTUS, no jabs at the Haitians, no ignorant talk about them being poor and why they live there, etc. Please keep it up!!!
Your president is speaking right now on CNN.
There are 45,000 Americans living and working in Haiti.
I will probably send some canned foods….my church will probably send some food, clothing and maybe money……
I cant watch the president, unless I go to the break room… and my boss aint even having that..
Sandra he is your Prez as well unless you aren’t a US citizen.
I wonder if this will increase the number of Haitians who try to flee their native land and escape to the US. Bless their hearts!
Wow Sandra. You have a good heart. I’m glad you’re doing this.
THANK YOU SANDRA FOR YOUR EFFORTS!
Sandra, you should use ur ATL connects and have a party at a club and have ppl bring canned goods or clothes as an entry fee. We can go to the club and spend hundreds of dollars in one night. I know WE can support the only black nation in the WORLD to fight back against slavery and WIN!
I applaud you Sandra for putting the foolishness aside. Thank you!
@ Quitta – Who is that in your gravatar??
Imma go to a local church or salvation army and see what I can to do help.
wow! sandy Im proud of you! I guess I go elsewhere for the tea..
Florida – Oh, oh that’s me.
Nah, nah, LOL. Its Dorothy Dandridge
@ Quitta – She’s beautiful! I love it!!!
Florida – Thanks hun
Lord have mercy Jesus. The devestation is almost to much to watch but I watch, just to remind me how fortunate and how blessed we are in this country. (Even the poorest here aren’t as poor as the average Haitian.) I’m going to make sure that my church takes up donations plus I’m gonna send as much as I can. There are several workers on my job that has family there. Through them, we will find the best avenue possible to send food, clothing, money, anything that can be shipped. Some good will come out of this, it’s got to. Sandra, keep being positive. Peace.
Very commendable of you SANDRA!
That picture of that little boy is heart-wrenching. I have tears in my eyes. This is sooooo sad. I don’t even what to do next. I’ve already sent money to the YELE fund. I felt the same way after Hurricane Katrina – HELPLESS!!!
Sandra, let me know if you do anything in the ATL.
There is so much to be grateful for. Life is precious and short.
Where are people sending things? How are they going to get things delivered, considering the chaos, right now?
This so reminds me of Katrina and how things were so out of order. All these people wanted to help but nobody could tell anyone anything. We even called the Red Cross and they were like “We don’t need any more people, and don’t send anything, we just need money.” Ummm, no, because as we see, the money never made it to help those in need.
My daughter’s boyfriend is from Haiti. His family in Grand-Goave is okay, but they can’t get in contact with his family that lives in the capital.
Snow in Florida. An Earthquake in Haiti. Hurricane Katrina. September 11th…
Lord, I’m listening…
ive seen some very disturbing pictures this morning. My prayers are with them
I am only giving to the charities that Wyclef recommends. What is Wyclef’s twitter account?
MsKayla, I still get sick about Katrina. Girl, my heart was heavy for a long time for those that were out there. And still you know there are families that have not managed to reconnect.
It’s times like this where your faith and your understanding of a higher power really kick into overtime.
@EricaDenese – Good Morning!! Snow in Florida?? Where??
I’m listening too @ Ericadenise
I think thats very commendable sandra. We have a large Haitian population here nyc (as well as fl), and people are hurting….because they jsut don’t know. My co worker hasn’t been able to contact her sister, so i’m praying for her.
I had to turn off the tv though…..just needed a lil break….its just beyond sad, the pics say alot
Ok, CNN, we get it… Haiti is the poorest in the world. Please, please stop saying that. Figure out something to say other than that. Stop kicking these people while they are down. Uggghhh!!

You are so right- how soon we (or shoud I say I) forget. People (including myself) sent so much money to Katrina and some of those people are still living in terrible conditions… And of course my big hearted self goes and sends the red cross money the first thing in the am not even thinking about that.
I think they might be emphasizing that there the poorest country in the world to emphasize that just how damaging this disaster is to them. The last thing this country needed was a disaster of any kind let alone a disaster of this proportion.
I think CNN is just trying to emphasize the need, MsKayla.
:praying: there is soooo much to be grateful for. We are truly blessed. Remember there is always someone doing worse. Antyee Sandra im proud of you.
@kiki And readtheblog
I don’t usually send money….I try to send things that people might need…clothing, can food, etc.
If you are considering making monetary donations please consider yele.org and umcor.org
Meant
Also If you are considering donating to the Red Cross please reconsider that. You have to “earmark” your donation for Haiti and once it reaches a certain amount the rest of the donations go into their general fund, also the overhead cost is so high. Donate to an organization that will give most or all of the money to Haiti

I dont usually send money either… Cause I never know exactly where the money ends up.. However being that this country is so poor, I feel like they need money more then anything.. So I plan to make a donation @ yele.org, but Im getting a “network error” message, while trying to access the site..
@ starr you’re right. I will remember that for next time. I’m going to make my husband get some more stuff. As sad as this is maybe Haiti can come out of this better then it was before. In the face of tragedy we should all remain hopeful and always remember that our God is a perfect God and doesn’t make mistakes. All things are for the greater good…
@ SouthernPrincess I didn’t know that… thanks for putting that information out there. Sometime we go into things with our heart in the right place but we don’t know all the facts behind it.
To all SR Fam members directly affected by the events….my prayers are with you and your family. I ask that he increases your faith and strengthn your spirit. PEACE be STILL for all of you.
GOD is in control and I feel for those who are affected indirectly and directly by this tragedy…For me I know to love hard and live good becuz imo this is yet another prophecy fulfilled about the end of our days…May God Bless Us All!

@ggouch & Choco —
Amen!!
This is a wonderful gesture, but I still need my gossip. But its ok because the other sites are still doing what they do.
Haiti is permanently in dire straights and good luck with those donations you guys are talking about sending. The horrible state of what should be a tropical paradise lies on the shoulders of their ridiculously corrupt “government”. I am at a loss for how to help out with that. Even if you send supplies they tend to get stollen and sold. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s the truth.
@KiKiWest
You are welcome. So many people have such great hearts and I want to make sure we have the best information possible to help carry out what our true intentions for the money is
Sandra, I’m in ATL also let me know what and where you’re going to do something and I’ll be there this is so devasting. Wyclef said donate to his org @ Yele.org or text to 501501 “Yele” and that will donate $5.
GOD IS GOOD AND ALMIGHTY!!!!!
It’s such a sobering tragedy that it leaves me speechless like just absolutely without words-so much comes to mind, the population, the wealth or lack there of, questions after questions but I dare not ask to much becuz I would not want to appear as though I question GOD’s intent-just discussing this with a co-worker and he’s just as speecless….
Sandra, can u please post how folks outside the US can help too.

This whole situation has me unsettled….smh
She’s got pull like that?
A group of us (medical teams) are leaving for Haiti please keep us lifted in prayer.
My heart goes out to the victims.
@ ReadTheBlog — Really??? Not sure if she has pull like that, but the bigger question is.. Is he really harrassing her?? If so, for what reason?
@SouthernPrincess…-I hope you remain safe and help them the best you all can
@ SouthernPrincess – I pray you have a safe journey mama..
That is a good idea Sandra.
I just sent an e-mail asking Red Cross to not fuck up in Haiti like they did in New Orleans, and to make sure funds are appropriated accordingly, otherwise it is called stealing.
I probably shoudn’t have used the f-bomb, but I meant it.
Florida, he is just going in on her, like he does everyone else. But a hit dog will holler
@Southern Princess
May GOD bless you and yours on your journey every step of the way and may you reach your destiny and fulfill GOD’s purpose in sending you…
Southern Princess- Thank you for volunteering. May God bless you and grant you and your team traveling mercy. I
for your safe return.

@RTB hey soror! Z-phi.
i know alot of people are still mad a the red cross…and lost faith in em…I’m not one of em. I think the red cross has done some good, and they intent to do some good. I don’t blame the red cross for Katrina as much i blame lack of planning on everyone’s part.
If people want the red cross…they have to donate. I remember reading not long ago, that the red cross lack funds and it wasn’t certain how much they would be able to help effectively in a diaster.

I can agree to a certain extent.. My BFF’s apartment burnt down a few months ago.. They put her up in a nice hotel, gave her cash and gift cards to get clothes and food for her and her 4 kids.. And they paid her deposit and first months rent to her new apartment..
But with the whole Hurricane Katrina situation, everyone is a little weary of them now.. But thats because people/celebrities donated millions of dollars.. And unfortunately, not everyone benefited from that.

Praying for Haiti but I still need my gossip fix. Is that wrong?
M3Z – Soror! Z-Phi!
Katrina was f#@ked up by President Bush and FEMA’s head Michael Browne aka Brownie. The Red Cross did what they could but the planning on the part of the government is what made the loss of lives as great as it was. If need proof google “USS Bataan” and Katrina and see what comes up.
STLVixen, no, it is not, especially when you come to a gossip site looking for it. I am guilty, too.
I guess I will log off and do some work today.
Hatians, here on SR, I hope you all can connect with your families and loved ones, and they’re all safe for now. Those in the surrounding areas, be on guard.
Remember, God knows what he’s doing

No problem. Thanks for being a longtime loyal reader.
If some people are looking to donate items instead of food in some of the larger areas there may be centers already dedicated to helping haitians and other etnic groups. That is another good way to donate and get the aid to them quickly. If anyone knows of people in Houston that want to donate the Multi Ethnic Center located at 9819 Bissonnet, Houston, Tx 77036. They are collecting
Blankets
Diapers
Baby wipes
Bottled Water
Canned Food
Clothing
First Aid Kits and Supplies
The drive will be held Thursday and Friday.
