One of my loyal readers, Shayla, emailed me a link from MSNBC detailing the new CDC stats on sexually transmitted diseases and how it is affecting teenagers in the black community. She asked me to post the story but I told her I would pass on that story.
Shayla emailed me back blasting me for being so irresponsible when it comes to educating my community. She informed me that Perez Hilton happily posted the stats on his popular blog (of course he would).
I told her that as a nurse I treated a gang of teenage boys under the age of 16 for STDs 3 years ago (at 2 local youth detention centers), and I knew all about the stats.
The boys I treated were all infected by the little Tyniqua’s and Briana’s running around the neighborhood emulating their mothers and aunties and women in videos on BET. My readers know all about the stats, because, after all, these are their kids.
As a matter of fact, I wrote an article on the old Sandrarose.com site in which I detailed the same thing that MSNBC is writing about now. Back then I wrote about treating many young boys for gonorrhea and I sent the information to the health department so they could track all the little girls down and provide them with treatment and sex education.
I wrote that many of the little girls were freely spreading infection to boys in the hood because the girls didn’t have any symptoms of STDs. This is nothing new to my regular readers.
So to Shayla, my apologies if I came off the wrong way in my email to you. I’m just tired of going over the same subjects that I’ve already covered when the rest of the country finally catches up to us.
