Vanessa Bryant could count her cash for a week and still leave piles of money untouched. So why doesn’t she leave her womanizing husband, Kobe Bryant? The simple answer is: status.
In a recent interview, Vanessa gave a glimpse into her pampered lifestyle that made it abundantly clear why she stays with a man who continuously cheats on her.
“I’ve been with Kobe since I was 17, so I’ve seen plenty of players, and plenty of wives, come and go,” she said in an interview with New Yorker magazine. “And I think that’s why the Lakers as an organization give me the access that I have — that other wives don’t have.” She’s talking about her access to the tunnel that leads to the locker room that the other wives can’t access. She has all of Kobe’s money, but her exclusive access to the team tunnel is priceless.
“If you notice, I am the only one allowed in that tunnel,” says Vanessa, with her Pomeranian named Gucci siting at her feet.
“I don’t like standing outside and giving him a kiss in front of all the cameras. So I stand in there to get away from them. But then the cameras end up following. And if the girls are there, sometimes, that’s their kiss good night for Daddy, and when he comes home, they’re asleep.”
Vanessa filed for divorce from Kobe when she thought she couldn’t take his philandering ways any more. But that was before she realized she would lose all the perks that comes with being the wife of a superstar NBA player — perks that the other wives don’t have access to. Most women wouldn’t care about such perks, but Vanessa is not like most women. Vanessa’s stepdad said she’s just like her gold digging mom — who refuses to give up the status she’s grown accustomed to.
