Infamous double murderer Elisabeth “Betty” Broderick died from natural causes on May 8 at a medical facility in San Bernardino County, California. She was 78.
Broderick died from sepsis infections after breaking her ribs in a serious fall at the California Institution for Women three weeks earlier.
The prison transferred Broderick to an outside medical facility for “a higher level of care” on April 18. She was surrounded by her family when she passed away.
Betty made headlines in 1989 when she was charged with the murders of her ex-husband, Dan Broderick, and his new wife, Linda.

Betty Broderick was a San Diego socialite and homemaker when she suspected that her husband, Dan, was cheating on her.
In 1982, Dan hired 21-year-old Linda Kolkena as his legal assistant at his law firm. He began to work late and took frequent business trips.
Betty asked Dan if he was having an affair with Linda. But Dan denied the cheating allegations.
He moved out of the house in February 1985, leaving Betty alone with their 4 children. Dan was granted custody of their children after she left them on his doorstep.
Their divorce was finalized in 1989 and Betty’s mental health deteriorated.

Betty’s behavior became increasingly erratic and she ignored multiple restraining orders. She vandalized his new home and drove her car into his front door. Their four children were inside the house at the time.
Betty left hundreds of messages on Dan’s answering machine. In one message, she warned him to wear a bulletproof vest at his wedding.
On April 22, 1989, Dan, 44, and Linda, 28, were married. Dan hired a plainclothes security guard for protection at the wedding. But Betty didn’t show up.
On Nov. 5, 1989 Betty drove to Dan’s house in the Marston Hills neighborhood of San Diego. She had taken a house key from her daughter Kim.
Betty entered the house around 5:30 a.m., and walked into the couple’s bedroom while they were asleep.
Betty shot Linda first. Two bullets to Linda’s head and chest killed her. Betty then shot Dan multiple times as he reached for the phone on the nightstand.
Betty spoke to Dan as he lay dying. She reportedly told him the shooting was his fault. Then she removed the phone and answering machine from the bedroom so he couldn’t call the police.
Betty was arrested and convicted of 2 counts of second-degree murder. She was sentenced to 32 years to life in prison.
