An Ontario, Canada, high school is defending a male-to-female shop teacher who wears abnormally large breast prosthetics to class.

Kayla Lemieux, who identifies as a transgender woman, said the prosthetic breasts are part of the gender transition process. Lemieux also wears a blond wig and a miniskirt to class.

Lemieux went viral on Twitter and Reddit.com after students posted photos and videos online.

Oakville Trafalgar High School administration defended Lemieux by warning parents and other teachers who complained.

The school warned that criticism of Lemieux is considered discrimination under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

“We strive to promote a positive learning environment in schools consistent with the values of the HDSB and to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students, staff and the community, regardless of race, age, ability, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, socioeconomic circumstances or body type/size.”

Ontario news outlets also defended the teacher, saying that while “the teacher is wearing a prosthetic chest piece of some kind,” criticism of Lemieux is misogynistic and harmful to Lemieux.
