Ex-NBA star Matt Barnes was hit with a restraining order by former NFL star David Patterson, who is the ex-husband of Barnes’ current girlfriend Anansa Sims (left).
The former NBA star is accused of being mean to Sims’ three children by Patterson. The children live with Barnes and Sims 50% of the time.
The other 50% of the time, the children live with Patterson and his fiancee, Melisa Andino. The restraining order was filed on behalf of Andino and Patterson.
Barnes has a son, Ashton, with Sims, who is the daughter of supermodel Beverly Johnson.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Andino filed the restraining order because Barnes allegedly threatened her and Patterson in a group text message.
Andino said the other parties in the group text were: “Matt Barnes, David Patterson, Anansa Sims, Beverly Johnson, Leesa Jackson and myself (Melisa Andino).”
Andino, a middle school principal, is pictured below with Patterson and his children, Ava, David, and Dean.
In the filing, Andino expressed that she is concerned for the welfare of the children who are “scared” of Barnes.
Andino wrote:
“August 22nd, 2022: The children reported to me and my fiance. David Patterson, that they were scared of Matt. They said that he is not nice to them. They said they are treated like visitors at his home. even though they live there. Little David said that he spends most of his time in a closet at Matt’s house.”
She added:
“They said that Matt only speaks to them at family dinners. They said the rest of the time, he goes into a room and smokes. They said that they feel like their mother loves Matt more than she loves them. This is very concerning to me since I have also been threatened by Matt Barnes.”
Andino explained that the two families co-parent the three children but she believes they are not in a good place with Barnes.

Andino continued:
“There are times that one of the children has started to tell me or my fiance something that happened at Matt’s house. and another child will say ‘Shh… don’t talk about that.’ This makes me fear that they are being threatened not to tell us what goes on at Matt’s home. Given the public life Matt and Anansa lead. there are videos on social media of him cursing at the kids and pushing them.”
Barnes shares 13-year-old twin boys, Carter and Isaiah, with reality TV star Gloria Govan.
Govan has previously complained about Sims recording the twin boys in her videos.
“My kids tolerate you because I raised them well,” she told Sims.
“They get irritated that [you] always try to force pictures and videos of them. I’ve asked you before not to post them. You obviously don’t listen. Now I’m telling you! Cut the sh*t. Leave MY kids off your social media. Stop lying. Or it’s going to become a problem.”
Barnes has a documented history of volatile behavior toward women. In 2016, he was accused of choking out a woman during an argument and punching “2 other people” who tried to intervene.
He was arrested in 2010 on suspicion of domestic violence against Govan, and for threatening a police officer in July 2012.
In the end, the judge did not grant a restraining order against Barnes. A hearing is set for Nov 4, 2022 for both sides to tell their stories in court.
