Mo’Nique made history on Sunday night when she became the first African American female stand up comic to win a best supporting actress Oscar at the 82nd Academy Awards.
But not everyone was thrilled for her.
The well-heeled audience, including actor George Clooney, stood and applauded enthusiastically when actress Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her heartwarming portrayal of a white woman who took in a homeless black teenager in the movie “The Blind Side.”
But when it was Mo’Nique’s time to accept her Oscar for her gritty role as the abusive mother in the movie “Precious,” Clooney and several others in the audience couldn’t be bothered to stand. The rude actor remained seated while most of the audience stood and cheered for Mo’Nique.
Yes, this is the same George Clooney who organized the Haiti Relief telethon while the eyes of millions were on him (typical of narcissists). But his refusal to stand in honor and support of a black woman when he thought no one was watching, shows his true colors.
It’s called manners and maybe Clooney should use some of his millions to buy himself some.

I agree, it is very rude not to stand, especially if your in the front row, but I dont neccessarily think he’s racist.. Maybe he just isnt a Monique fan
Dang, if you scratch your a$$ the wrong way, your considered racist..
maybe he wasnt wearing his orthopedic shoes! **shrugs shoulders**
it’s rude to insult your president every day too but everybody is entitled to their own feelings….
It wasn’t racist. George and Sandra are friends.
Sidenote: George has always given time and money to Black causes. The genocide in Darfur, Hurricane Katrina, the earthquake in Haiti, the AIDS crisis in Africa,etc…
Monique didn’t involve herself in the politics of the Oscars, she was gonna make some enemies for that
And hello to all the SR Fam…i have been lurking for over a year and am so glad to join yall finally!!!
He doesn’t have to be racist NOT to like Monique…hell some black people probably don’t like him either??
Is it really that serious?
nodding in agreement with Floridachick.
He was obviously snubbing her but that doesn’t make him a racist..maybe the azzhole he tries so hard not to be when the camera is on him though.
LOL @ his ugly ass girlfriend following his lead.
I don’t see the big deal about George Clooney, so really, it doesn’t even matter. He’s just one person. Look around him. Everyone else was standing and applauding. If nobody stood up, then that’s something to consider.
OMG!!!!
PLZ!!!!
@free Says:

Uh, he didn’t stand but he was clapping
Why is that black people only win oscars when they play negative roles, like Halle in Monster;’s Ball, Denzel in training day, and Monique in Precious.
I am just saying.
George is not racist at all. He probably doesn’t agree with the decision, which is well within his right. He didn’t stand. I’m cool with it. I’m still going to see his movies. He’s a great actor.
When are people gonna realize that the Academy Awards are not about “history”, it’s about you work. I think that the Casting people should get an award for choosing Mo, because it wasn’t that much of a stretch for her but no one cares about my opinion lol.
On to the next story.
Maybe it was just personal…From what I can tell Monique stepped on a lot of toes, perhaps his too…
Maybe they had so sort of tift that we don’t know about lol
Sandra maybe just maybe you are reaching…
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYY Krysi J!!!!
Maybe he was tired, or he though Monique was
Now about George, yeah he didn’t stand, but maybe he was tired for that long boring show. And at least he clapped.
I thought Clooney was half black…but so is Tiger. Anyways, as I digress, he doesnt necessarily have to be racist but trying to prove a point during the Oscars by sitting down is quite inappropriate.
I’ve been seeing that multiple people dont like Monique (like bloggers). Why is that?
Lets not forget that Samuel L. Jackson (black man) gave her the stank eye during her speech… stop being so quick to throw down the racist card…. we can’t expect everybody to like who we like when it comes to celebrites….
i doubt george clooney is racist he could get it too with his old sexy a$$
ummm Sandra you also fail to mention that George Clooney and Sandra Bullock have been close friends for years… maybe he just doesn’t like Mo’Nique.
George Clooney was sipping out of a flask all night. By the time, they got to her category Clooney was faded.
she isn’t what most people would call an oscar darling…she didn’t play the politics of the game. she played that role though and deserved that oscar. as for blacks getting oscars for negative roles…morgan freeman’s role in million dollar baby wasn’t negative…i don’t think Jamie Foxx playing ray charles was either (there were some negative part so his life, but it was based on a true story)
He is clapping, maybe he is of the mindset that why do we, African-American’s, only receive Oscar’s for the ugly roles that we play? And, therefore showing respect by clapping, but not acknowledging the the Academy’s choice by standing.
Hattie McDaniel, Halle, Denzel all showed the worst of African-Americans – housekeeper, destitute, corrupt; JHud the only exception, to receive their Oscars.
While Monique’s performance was commendable, would she have won Best Leading Actress if she played Sandra Bullocks role and “The Blind Side” were reversed? I know there are black women all across the world who take in white or other race children. A story that shows that view would not have received the the same accolades, Oscar buzz, or even made it to the box office.
Clearly, I believe Clooney stands for something…Haiti, Darfur, Hurricaine Katrina, maybe he just doesn’t stand for the politics of Hollywood.
but halle berry winning for monster’s ball was straight up out of line. i think denzel won for training day b/c it was pretty out of character for most of his roles, if samuel l jackson stopped playing the angry black guy, he may get one eventually…
I think Geaorge was drunk….
So his date is racist as well? I guess I’ll be returning my Facts of Life and ER DVD’s, jk. He’s not a racist carry on.
Here we go again with the Black negative roles = Oscars. As we discussed yesterday WHITE people win Oscars for dark sterotypical rolls if that’s the case. Gay, serial killing, drug addict/alcoholics.
Cuba, Morgan Freeman, Denzel’s first Oscar weren’t negative rolls.
I really don’t like that yts keep us down theory. That shyt is played.
I agree with some that I don’t see the big deal about George Clooney. He isn’t remotely handsome to me ;shrug:

I sooo agree with you about the oscar issue…
What does George Clooney being friends with Sandra Bullock have to do with him not standing up when Mo’Nique won?
@Shauny
You feel how you feel. There are other movies that clearly a black person deserve at least a nominee and they didn’t get one. But as soon as there is a movie that highlight a black person in a negative light it seem that they get reognized for that. It’s not that the black person didn’t deserve the award. Taraji deserve a award for Benjamin Button, which she took in a white boy. But Sandra Bullock played a roll where she took in a black boy and they give the award to her.
That all i’m saying about that.
I can’t with the racist post so I’m going way
Does anyone know where I can find colorful outside rugs for a patio? All the one’s I’m seeing are brown/black/green.
maybe he didn’t stand up for jeff bridges either…maybe he only stands up when he gets excited…
Oh, I will say this: If George Clooney had stood up, turned his back and THEN mooned Monique….I would then believe he was racist LOL.
HEEYYYY KRYSSAAYYYYY! FAGET ABOUT IT!
George Clooney acted like he was in a foul mood cause when steve martin and alec baldwin made the toyota joke they kept puttin the camera pn him and he was lookin crazy then
but being that everyone around him was standin he could have sttod too but i dont think it has anythin to do with race
There are a lot of racist people out there, but I don’t think ole George is one of them. Yes, it was rude to not stand (even though I guess he isn’t obligated to do so), but it would’ve been nice and polite, but in nowadays, people have lost those skills.
Side note: I stayed up until 2 a.m. watching “Precious” for the first time, and wasn’t that impressed. Mo’Nique killed her role (made me cry at the end in the scene in the welfare office as she explained why her sick self allowed that man to molest/rape her child. My favorite role was Paula Patton’s. Sorry – I digressed.
Anyway, no, I don’t think GC is racist.

Sorry yall, but I’m in a silly mood today.
umm for all of you saying black folks only win for negative roles, please suggest to me a positive role that a black person played that was truly Oscar worthy, aside from Denzel in Glory.
surely you don’t expect “captain-save-a-hoe” flicks like Diary of a Mad Black Woman to win or “coontastic-fcukery” like Soul Plane to win legitimate awards.
But he could have stood up; unless he was having an intestinal moment and couldn’t move or something.
@KrazyKat, have u ever read the book? I cried when I read it… I was young, like 15. I really never thought that parents could do that to their own children.
I’m black, and I wouldn’t have stood for her either.. It’s just something about her that I don’t like..

The entire “Color Purple” cast should’ve won but then black ppl would complain that Whoopi played an abused woman, Danny was a wife beater, Shug was a whore, Oprah was a loud mouth, etc, etc. I dont get it
George Clooney has done more for people of color than people of color. He is not a racist. I would like to see how many other folks he remained seated for that won.
@thespinaltruth….The Blinde Side is an incredible true story, it has nothing to do with color. It is a movie about love.
I will say this a thousand times, we treat each other far worse. It might be a good idea to start in our own backyard by loving ourselves and one another. Just a thought.
KARAZ , it is true…
It was a dark role, but I thing Forrest Whittaker did a damn good job playing IDI AMIN in The Last King of Scotland. I would have liked to have seen Don Cheadle win an Oscar for playing Paul Rusesabagina in Hotel Rwanda, but his role was a saintly one.
MoNique’s role was not saintly, nor was the movie Precious, nor was Monster’s Ball , nor was Training Day. Sidney Poitier won an Oscar, but I don’t know the movie, so I can’t say if it was a good one. Harrie McDaniel…a mammy? not good.
But if y’all like it I love it.
I’m still trynna figure out WTF The Hurt LOoker is – Ain’t never heard of it before Sunday.
It doesn’t make him racist. Maybe he didn’t think she deserved the award. It’s very possible he was hoping one of his friends won it. Also, there were many winners who didn’t receive a standing ovation from ANYONE

i can’t speak for everyone else, but for me…she is so preachy, everything is a motivational speech…i can’t stand that show b/c she is screaming and hollering (the one thing i do like is that she has a good variety of guests…people that are not going to get shine on any other show)…it’s just such a big change from the parkers, queens of comedy or phat girlz…not saying she is fake, i just don’t care for it…and you know a lot of people have not liked her for years b/c of the skinny bitches comments (not me b/c i ain’t skinny…lol)
@MsConsciousone
I’m confused, where did I say that the blind side had to do with color. I was stating that Sandra’s role was the same as Taraji, which were both good roles. I think Taraji should have won for her role that was similar to Sandra. But she didn’t. Both movies were about love.

KaraZ, you know. I thought about reading it because I had heard so many things about it, but I just couldn’t because of the dark subject matter. As a matter of fact, I wasn’t even going to watch “Precious” but I was bored and decided, “why not.” I’ve heard people make the exact same comment as you about how they cried from disbelieve that a parent could do that to their child. They know we’re a tolerable people and will be our fiends until their agenda kicks in, then it’s over
You guys have been warned…
Ok, this is just overly sensitive, Sandra. There are a MILLION reasons why someone might choose to sit while several others are giving a standing ovation. To assume that it’s racism without any other justification is simply looney. Maybe his feet hurt, he just didn’t feel like it, or maybe he’s not fond of Monique. Due to her loudness, I’m not her most ardent fan either (though I applaud her win. She acted very well in this role.) Let’s look at the plethora of reasons why a person does/says something rather than being hyper-sensitive regarding race.

Whoopi Goldberg – but some people may say why would Whoopi win an award for playing an abused lesbian
WIll Smith – I wasnt wow’ed. Will’s best performance was on Fresh Prince when he figured out his dad did not want him. JMO

Did Taraji ONLY deserve the award because she took in a white Brad Pitt or because you thought her acting was brilliant? I’m not sure what determines when someone is outstanding enough to get a Oscar nom or actually win BUT to be honest Taraji was better in BOTH Baby Boy and Hustle and Flow than she was in Benjamin Button…IMO
@Lovely One Whoopi was nominated for her role in Color Purple. She won for a non-negative role in Ghost.
@thespinaltruth
Taraji Henson was nominated for that role, so was Whoopi and Will Smith. People are not always going to win everything they get nominated for. But you can’t be serious about Thin Line & Waiting to Exhale. Those were entertaining movies, but there were not critically acclaimed, they were both overly dramatic, not well made films, just entertaining movies.

Larry Fishburne “Band of the Hand”
Queen Latifah “Chicago”
Women of Brewster Place should have gotten something.
New Jack City as well, that movie is iconic for the war on drugs.

@nika405 Pier 1 Imports or Bed,Bath and Beyond
@thespinaltruth….Taraji was nominated last year for her role, remember? Sandra was not her competition.
So, for the white folks that won Oscars for the same type of roles that Black folks won for is……(crickets). The award is for the performance not whether you liked the movie.

@Readtheblog, Forest Whitaker won the Oscar for his role in the Last King of Scotland.
GC has done more for blacks than black have? Wow! I’m sorry, I have to disagree with that one big time. Don’t allow the media to bamboozle you into believe they are our saviors. I know black folks tend to be a bit apathetic, but there are countless (thousands, if not more), blacks that have rallied and still do rally for our causes. Look behind the scenes because you sure won’t see it in the media.
@lovely
To each’s own. Thin Line is not oscar worth but Lynn’s performance is.
George isn’t obligated to stand. Maybe he’s not a fan. Hell I’m not a Monique fan. Am I a racist?
*sigh* This convo is all over the place.
For one, Sandra has never even won an oscar before Sunday night, that was her first after a long long acting career and I saw both Precious and The Blind Side, both good movies, however Blind Side was better. Monique played the hell out of her role in Precious and Sandra played the hell out of her role in Blind Side, they both won and deservedly so.
What does Monique’s legs have to do with anything? People are ridiculous. What if someone doesn’t like your weave? Your fake nails? That ish doesn’t matter. And so what if Monique was playing th Parkers and every other hoodtastic role? Is the woman not allowed to mature and progress in her acting roles? Number one she’s black and on the heavier side, so name one director that would have cast Monique in a serious role prior to Precious? Gabby too? Yea exactly. And stop trying to put people in a box like they can’t change into something better because you think it’s fake, that’s a niggatry mentatlity if I ever heard of one, no wonder kids think it’s not cool to read, they’re probably being told they’re fake for wanting to be more than what they see around them in the hood.
And who gives a flip if George is racist? She still WON the Oscar
for Monique cause all this other ish is secondary.
Sorry yall, I had an intense moment #noshade!

So next when the black person wins they are then BASHED as a person or really didn’t deserve it.
Halle – how is SHE the first black woman and not someone else. She’s not the best black actress
Jennifer – I don’t think her role was a stretch, all she did was holler and played a ghetto girl from Detroit
HoNique – ditto on her role not being a stretch and I wish it was someone else because now she’ll have an attitude.
If Gaborey would’ve won I’m sure we would’ve found something negative to complain about as well.
Where does it end. If someone wins we complain why/how they won and make it about the role, when they’re not nominated we complain…SERIOUSLY people. How about not watching the Oscars or needing the Oscars to define what African American roles deserves awards then.
I’ve said this before, I think all people should listen to a man by the name of Tim Wise. He is a white man who lectures across the country on white supremacy. I think a lot of black people and people in general don’t understand how deep it is and underestimate it’s power. I’m not saying we have to acquiesce to it, but at least understand it so we know how to deal with it instead of burying our heads in the sand thinking it will go away.
Karaz, I know…did I state it wrong? My apoligies if I did.
AS for Taraji, y’all she played a house keeping mammy that took in an abandoned white baby because she couldn’t have her own. Y’all think she played the hell out of that role and deserved an Oscar?
NO!

Antwone Fisher was an awesome film, that was overlooked
Queen Latifah was nominated for Chicago and Forest Whitaker won the Oscar… Again black people are nominated for all sorts of roles, they will win for all sorts of roles as well. Besides Whoopi won for Ghost, I don’t see that character as being a “bad portrayal” of black folks.
GC is not racist!! I could have sworn he was drinking throughout that long boring azz program…at least he did clap!
For all we know he could have been gone at that point or he was having IBS problems…its not like he was on twitter updating the fact that so many women wore red or that bowties are the bizz.
George Clooney is far from a racist. I believe either he didn’t agree with the decision, or maybe didn’t like Mo’Nique’s supposed arrogance during the awards season. In any event, it is rude to not stand when you are in the front. It is a sign of respect. Did Samuel Jackson stand as well? THAT is what I want to know.

Princess – Forest Wittaker DID win the Oscar for The Last King Of Scotland. The Women of Brewster Place was a Lifetime movie so Emmy’s yes, Oscar worthy no.
Also most of the movies you named were from negative portrayals of Blacks soooo people on here would still have problems with that. I think Derek Luke was great in Antoine Fisher though.
People really need to go look at the past winners and check the roles they played to win them because barely ANY of them are positive ones.

Her role was a role of a lifetime, yes they purposely went looking for a 300 lb black female, not sure if Hollywood is going to really be knocking on her door much, I do believe she has two more movies in the making but let’s be honest, until she loses the weight her career will stall.
Oh and I am still
D Luke wasnt on Oprah when Denzel was on to promote Antwan Fisher back in the day that hurt my
He is such a cutie pie to me and I just knew he would be on the show since he was the main character!!
@Anna I agree about Gabourey I wonder what future rolls she will get. Hope she has a good agent.
Oh and all these comments about negative portrayals of blacks is null and void because once the actor/actress takes the part, it is what it is. And if they so happen to perform well enough to garner Oscar buzz, then sobeit.
Also I for one am glad Precious made it to the limelight because it’s something that happens to alot of your kids in their homes, whether black or white. What is wrong with us as people when we would rather ignore the things that make us shine a light into what’s going on in our lives? Ignore it all you want, it won’t go away.
That should read *young* kids, not accusing all of SR’s fam of being abusive parents.
@ KaraZ Says:
@LovelyOne… yes MalcomX was another great one that got shafted… actually coming to think of it… Denzel Washington must’ve pissed a bunch of folks off, he stays getting shafted out of the Oscar… he directed Antwon Fisher too or am I mixing him up with someone else?
——————————–
Yes, Denzel did direct that movie. I’m hoping for Denzel to win for “The Book of Eli” I was told that the movie is eligible for next year’s Oscars.

Derek Luke fell off real hard. Last acting job I saw him in was a Monica video.
DAisy, look on imdb for Gabourey. There’s a movie in post productionshe’s in as well as a sitcom? She’s getting work. I’m glad cause I thought she was gonna be a one hit wonder.
I’m no Monique fan; however, I am glad that she won – she really gave that role her all. She is way too preachy at times and makes even the most basic responses overly dramatic.

I thought I was the ONLY person who remembered that Will Smith episode When he said “Why dont he want me” I cried like a baby…. dontjudgeme
~~~~~~~
It doesn’t matter how many times I have seen that episode it still makes me cry, you can feel his pain.
_____________
It’s so hard for me to watch that episode because as a child I had that same talk with my mom. I’m very emotional about the father subject and father’s day. #dontjudgeme
@ RTB thanks, I spent 2hrs at Garden Ridge last night and they have no outdoor rugs!
D Luke has a show on NBC it was on Mon night my baby is stil WORKING :yea:
Glad to know Gabourey is getting future roles.
Umm I have a problem believing that Monique didn’t step out of comfort zone to play Precious’ mama… she played the hell out of that role.
1. Not once did she say ” and bay-beh…”
2. Her voice wasn’t loud all throughout the film, she actually had a low menacing tone
Need I continue
I keed.
@Kara – oh I think you misunderstood me about J Hud because I think she was EXXCELLENT in her role. We didn’t even know her but from Idol where she was singing so how could we say it wasn’t a stretch for her…I don’t get that one
My comment 91 was about what the complainers say not my views. I didn’t get why Halle was based. She wasn’t the first person fvcked, poor, or naked in order to get her Oscar, Mo wasn’t the first worst female on earth, etc.
I put 2 X’s in excellent on purpose people
Some people will play the race card in a poker game. Black folks are more racist with black folks than any other race.In my day to day life if I’m at a function, if I don’t feel like standing or clapping guess what I don’t.Oh, because we is black we are entitled to everyone clapping/standing for us.GTFOH!!!There was more negative feedback from black ppl the next day.
HEEYYYY KRYSSAAYYYYY! FAGET ABOUT IT!
———————————————
HEEEEEEEYYYYY BROWN!!!! *waving*
Shauny, definitely misunderstood your post… JHud’s role in dreamgirl’s didn’t seem like that much of a stretch to me & after seeing her in Sex & the city, I know she’s just not that polished of an actress.
I think Abigail Breslin should’ve won over her… or the chick from Babel who played the suicidal school girl
I can’t wait to see what J Hud does with her role as Winnie and I liked her in s*x in the city as well
Am I the only person who hasn’t seen Precious or Benjamin Button
@ Kara
Shonuff (the last dragon)
Chris Rock (New Jack City)
Tracy Morgan (First Sunday)
Halle Berry (Jungle Fever)
Welcome home Roscoe Jenkins should’ve won best picture
But seriously, when these black artist win doesn’t it seem like they fall off after
Halle follow up was Catwoman (which I personally thought was good) & my favorite Gothika also got bad reviews.
Denzel (who I don’t think is Fione) needs to get a new role to play. I’m sick of the cop role & that train movie was the same role as the bank robber movie he did. I’m not a Denzel fan
Halle should’ve won for Losing Isiah.
@Daisy, all I know is that she better not make Winnie sound like a country azz South African … That movie is wack already to me, how can they make a movie about someone & not consult her, and why shut out South Africans from the cast? #SHAM.
@iscream. LOG.OFF.NOW. #ihatechu
LMFAO @iscream for Welcome home Roscoe Jenkins should’ve won best picture
that movie was funny though
@kara – REALLY you thought Little Miss Sunshine did better than Jenny? WOW. I guess. I liked her in SATC and Bees too. The chick from Babel was good but she was no Jenny.
@ iscream Says:
Girl just stop
——————————–
Last but not least like I said yesterday I hate to see what ppl would have said had Monique lost
*****************
Thank you. Sometimes folks just want somthing to talk about. I had no complaints this year.
As for the post….was it rude? yes racist? no.
He probably didn’t stand cuz mo ain’t apart of that elite holiday club. :rollseyes:
Sandra,
your arms gotta be as long as Inspector Gadget’s with all the reaching it took to post this story.
I don’t think GC is racist at all and I really could care less if he stood up for her or not. I’m not a big Monique fan, she’s extra in a fake kind of way and those hairy legs of hers doesn’t help the situation. What is the world coming to? Monique has an Oscar and not Angela Bassett one the most best actresses of our time.
Its not Moniques fault that Angela doesnt have an Oscar and Angela threw shade Halles way after she won so lets see if she does the same to Monique
@Isc I havent see Benjamin Buttons. Far as Denzel goes I heard Book of Eli was FAB have yet to see it though. I liked Gothica and the movie Halle did with Bruce Willis (dont know if it was before or after Oscars).
Isc actually I thought Halle was REALLY good as the crackhead in Jungle Fever #dontjudgeme
Also my favorite Denzel role besides Malcomn X is Creesy in Men on Fire with Dakota Fanning. One of my fav movies. He wasn’t a sterotypical character in that movie and I don’t think he plays the same roles.
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins IS MY MOVIE!!! I love that movie so. It’s hilarious!!
@ ReadTheBlog Says:
As for George Clooney doing for ‘colored folks’ Never under estimate the white man. They like to morph into things that we’re comfortable with, and they they pull the rug from under your feet They know we’re a tolerable people and will be our fiends until their agenda kicks in, then it’s over
You guys have been warned…
Damn rt@ rtb. I’m not going to say that he is racist for not standing, but I am not going to suggest that he isn’t either.
People don’t like Monique because she is loud, black, fat, and hairy.
LMAO Now yall know Roscoe Jenkins was Hilarious. I was shocked bc I thought Martin had fallen off.
@daisy I think that was swordfish. Yes that was good. I loved it because the bad guy got away at the end tee hee hee. I didn’t see book of eli but I’ll check it out. One of my favorite Denzel movies is Man on Fire (I think that’s the name) when he was a bodyguard for Dakota Fanning.
Speaking of movies. Did anyone see Orphan
that’s my genre of movies. Scary!
@Shauny, I thought Little Miss Sunshine was an excellent dark comedy type. Abigail Breslin was perfect in that role, I believed her character. As far as JHud… she has the LisaRaye syndrome of carring the same accent in every role she plays. She can be a good actress, but I just don’t think that’s where her heart is.
But for nothing else, I was glad she shut Beyonce down… yes i’m a secret hater :lolol:
~~~~~~~~
Men On Fire was a excellent moive. I love Dakota. JLO’s hubby was also great.
Isc get outta my head with your 144 post.
I think Daisy is talking about the one with her and Bruce Willis. That movie was good.
What does MoNique’s hairy legs have to do with why folks don’t like her. I mean are yall serious?
@Isc NO not swordfish. This movie came later. Halle was a temp or worked at an office or something. Perfect something maybe.
@karaz J Hud said she would be talking to and meeting with Winnie to gain insight on the role.
@Shauny yes and that movie was good but didnt do well at the box office
Speaking of movie anybody see BK finest I hate it didnt do well last wkend at the box office. I am going to see it Fri. I also want to see Lance and Ugly bettys wedding movie.
I thought J Hud was good in seceret life of bees
@Shauny Creesy was a good character for Denzel loved that movie as well.
@Daisy comment 141
It’s not her fault or Halle’s fault or Jhud’s fault or any other black actress who has actually won an Oscar’s fault that Angela doesn’t have one, again Sandra just got hers after all these years.
:WTF:
I don’t blame George Clooney or Samuel L. Jackson or any other REAL actors in Hollywood that aren’t feeling Mo’nique right now. There are a whole slew of bonafide actors who have never even been nominated for an Oscar- let alone won one and here comes Mo’nique who not only won for playing a stereotypical black woman- fat, poor, angry, ignorant and abusive- in the eyes of Hollywood, BUT ALSO totally disrespected the process of the Oscars and the original agreement of the film. Director Lee Daniels gave Mo’nique her first real break in what started out as a low budget project and she went all Hollywood and decided not even to promote the film because she was holding out for more money after Oprah and Tyler Perry jumped on late in the game as producers. She didn’t even campaign among Hollywood for the Oscar for that reason which is customary of the nominees for more than 80 years. I did not want her to win because there are so many more deserving black actresses who would have been so much more gracious and saw the value in the process and the top award an actress can receive. To top it all off, she then got up there with that defiant, bitter speech and showed herself to be alot like her character.
Call it whatever you want (hatin, etc) but there are more deserving actors who actually understand the significance of the Oscar- especially to minority actors.
I digress. Congrats- whatev…
Point of clarity: Whoopi Goldberg was the first black female stand-up comic to win an Oscar for “Ghost” in the 90s.
Oh @ Daisy I think I know what movie you’re talking about, wasn’t Halle a murderer in that one? I remember a kitchen scene for some reason?
@daisy
Omg I know what movie you are talking about. HATED IT!!! That was one of those movies I watched all the way thru hoping it would get better
it didn’t
@shauny
LMAO that we said the same thing. & Halle was great in Jungle Fever & Losing Isaiah. She makes a good crackhead for some reason.
@152 well said
Who says people have to kiss Oscar a** just because people have done it for 80years? Guess what? Even if you kiss a** it doesn’t mean you’ll win because even though there are many categories, there can only be one winner in each one and even if Monique didn’t pay her dues in some people’s minds as an actress, she’s definitely paid them in this industry for friggin 20years.
Eminem didn’t catch all this flak for being cast as a rapper in a movie but everyone else who rapped and acted has including Will Smith who is a 20million dollar movie man..
And so what? Again with this stereotypical black mother ish…let’s be real, how many youg girls do you know that are victims of rape/incest/molestation? Oh that’s right they probably don’t talk about for fear of how ignorant people’s responses will be. I find it sad that after all this time all we can focus on is color and not the bigger picture of what that movie and The Blind Side represented. Are you mad @ the ladt who played the football player’s bio mom as well, because she played a stereotypical crackhead welfare black woman, oh wait I forgot that was based on a true story
Sometimes the truth hurts and I don’t care how many high horses people step on, Precious is true in a lot of households, hell Fantasia is still illiterate, fix the problem then maybe there wouldn’t need to be a movie made about it.
Just because someone didn’t attend Julliard doesn’t mean that they don’t possess natural talent. I would like to compare acting to playing sports. Did LeBron or Kobe need to go to college to become the best players in the NBA? Sam Jackson needs to get over himself and stop seeing the approval of the Academy to tell him that he is great.
See this is what’s wrong in America. No one wants to pay dues anymore. People want things just because they are who they are. Some things still have honor. Some things have requirements. Only a few hundred people have Oscars. This used to be an elite group og some of the most talented actors in the world. I think Queen Latifah would have been superb in that role and gracious enough to promote the movie in which she would have worked to so hard in.
Oscar just got less elite. Real actors are pissed and it’s over so ….moving on!
@Walking
how the hell cares if Monique didnt shuck n jive and play the Hollywood game she still will forever be known as OSCAR WINNER! She worked her way up the ladder in her own way and by her own rules. Why was nobody mad when she WON ALL the other awards leading up the Oscars?????????
@isc that movie was GOOD!!!
It’s redundant. I’m done, I’m allergic to niggativity. TTYL
hey we forgot Whoopi was the first black female stand up comedian to win an oscar, and Lynn Whitfield for a thin line between love and hate? come on son.:surprised:
@AKA Monique PAID HER DUES just cause she didnt pay them the way you see fit doesnt mean she didnt put in her work #justsaying
@Shauny
right behind you girl this makes no sense I cant take it *throws hands in the air* Jeff Johnson had a GREAT commentary on Moniques Oscar win this am.
I agree it was rude of him, but maybe because she is a comediann* not a actress? … really don’t know gotta watch the clip again!!!!!
Maybe he hated the movie.
I know I’m late but I’m so happy Monique won!
AKAtastrophy1908 Says: Oscar just got less elite. Real actors are pissed and it’s over so ….moving on!

chile you know she had to lay in the bed with her husband and twins and watch tv!
AKAtastrophy1908 – Thank You!!
What about State Property????
Anyways, Monique didn’t impress with her role, however Precious did (don’t know how to spell her name).
You have people that dedicated their whole life to a craft. I don’t like Moniques talk show, cause she is always hollarin! She keeps trying to tell people what they should do but then her ass tell people let your husband f*ck other women because thats how you keep him. So you preaching be yourself and f*ck what others think but yet, you are willing to share your man with other chicks just so you can claim him. Oh yeah and then you don’t shave your legs because your husband loves it. So what that mean, you are sucking up to him and let him run you.
PRACTICE what you PREACH bottomline.

to me and she could be allowing him to sleep with other men.

Do we know that his wife lets him sleep with other women, he looks
I left this post for the negativity and I see that it progressed. WOW!!!
he’s really good friends with sandra bullock.. maybe he don’t bang with Monique
Two of his co-stars was nominated in the same category as Monique. Maybe that was his reason for not standing–but he did clap–which is shocking because him and Morgan Freeman didn’t show any type of support to most of the winners throughout the show. I kept thinking how rude of those two, lol.
