Rap legend MC Lyte is mourning the loss of her mother, Constance Moorer, who died following a long battle with cancer.
“It is with great sadness that I share that my mother, Constance Moorer, transitioned this past week,” Lyte, real name Lana Moorer, wrote in an Instagram post on July 4.
MC Lyte, 54, said her mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2022. “She fought through every moment of surgery, chemo, and radiation with the hopes of one day being cancer-free,” she wrote.
She added: “My mom woke up every day with the greatest attitude and with her heart full of a song for the Lord. Anyone who came into contact with her felt her light and her beautiful energy. That smile. A true joy.”
“This is, by far, the most difficult part of my journey and all I can hold on to right now is gratitude. My mother’s mother passed when my mother was 10 and I was blessed to have my mom for 54 years of my life. I am grateful to have had all that time with someone so incredibly special.
Words cannot express how heavy my heart sits but I rest in the knowingness that she is now free, out of pain and with our Lord Jesus Christ.
