Anti-Trumpers celebrated the “death” of President Donald Trump all weekend – until he was seen playing golf on Sunday.
The 79-year-old president’s health issues have been well-documented. On Friday it was reported that Trump hadn’t been seen publicly in three days.
By Saturday, bloggers reported the unsubstantiated rumor that Trump had died and that Vice President JD Vance had assumed the office of the presidency.
The rumor spread like wildfire on social media. Anti-Trumpers celebrated on Reddit.com, Facebook, X (Twitter), and Instagram.
The terms “is Trump dead” and “Trump dead” were among the top searches on Google, Forbes reported.
“He’s never been this quiet for so long. No press conference, no crazy comments between the golf course and the helicopter, no new tariff announcements and insults,” one person wrote on X.
A second person tweeted, “They’ll announce #TrumpIsDead September 3rd to distract from the Epstein victims.”
Then on Sunday, Aug. 31, Trump was spotted playing golf. Disappointed anti-Trumpers spread a new rumor – that the person playing golf was a Trump “body double.”
On Sunday, Trump bragged on his Truth Social app: “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE. Also, DC IS A CRIME FREE ZONE!”
One TikToker blamed the “democrats [who] started rumors about him”.
Others said Trump looked “sick” in photos that show him returning to the White House from his golf outing.
Then came a new rumor that Trump suffered a series of “mini-strokes” that left him unrecognizable. And that’s how rumors get started.
