A Black content creator in Atlanta claims a Black-owned spa is “racist” because she wasn’t allowed to record content inside the spa.
Noel, who goes by @lifeofajalenoel on TikTok, broke down crying when told she couldn’t record at the Woodhouse Spa in Atlanta’s upscale Buckhead neighborhood.
She captioned her video: “COME AT YOUR OWN RISK ! Racist black owned businesses @@WoodHouseSpa?Buckhead.”
Stacey, the spa’s co-owner and general manager, told Noel that another customer complained about her tripod standing in the middle of the hallway. The other customer was concerned about her privacy.
Stacey said the spa had specific rules regarding recording and that all recordings must be approved at the front desk to protect guests’ privacy.
But Noel refused to let Stacey speak. She continuously interrupted her saying Stacey was “racist” to her own kind.
“I feel very disrespected and unwelcome here, and I don’t know why,” Noel whined.
“You and I need to have this conversation when you’re not angry because you’re not listening to me,” Stacey politely told her.
Reactions to the incident were divided on TikTok. Many of Noel’s followers sided with her.
But others thought Noel’s behavior was rude and entitled.
One person wrote on theNerdStash: “There is no racism here. What I do see is a sense of entitlement that’s ridiculous with her generation. She is childish and immature. She is a guest in their establishment and has to follow the rules…”
Another person wrote on TikTok: “As a spa manager in Atlanta the manager is correct, they have the right to tell you that you can’t record BUT it sounds like how they treated you is unacceptable.”
A third person commented: “I’ve been to several spa’s [sic] and you cannot film. Girllllll!”
