First Lady Melania Trump faced criticism after she posted a photo of the White House decorated for a Halloween party on her X/Twitter page. Mrs. Trump, who oversees holiday decorations for the people’s house, covered the front steps of the White House with dozens of pumpkins.

President Donald Trump and the First Lady will host a Halloween event for children at the White House tonight (Oct. 30).

The Halloween event tonight is considered in poor taste since millions of Americans are set to lose Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, also known as “food stamps,” on Saturday, November 1.

The Trump administration blames Democrats for not voting to fund the SNAP program.

However, the Trump administration declined to allocate $5 billion in contingency funds to cover SNAP costs while the government shutdown continues.

Democrats in Congress refuse to approve a budget until President Trump restores funding for free healthcare for those who are in the country illegally.

Americans lashed out at Melania on X/Twitter.

One person wrote: “The White House should consider donating these pumpkins to the food bank after Friday.”

Another person wrote: “Great use of my taxes.”

Trump supporters defended the first lady on X/Twitter.

One person wrote: “WTF? Is Melania supposed to cover the country’s food stamp budget out of her personal savings account?”

Another Trump supporter wrote: “I like all that you are doing for children, our next generation of leaders.”

A third person commented: “Very nice and no scary or overly occult things!”
