It’s official. President Donald Trump promised to send $2,000 tariff “dividends” to most Americans. The money will come from “trillions of dollars” in tariffs collected by the Trump administration in 2025.

Trump made the announcement on his Truth social app on Sunday, Nov. 9.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!” he wrote. “We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price… We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion.”

Trump continued: “A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

The money will be welcome relief to Americans amid the ongoing government shutdown.

The president previously promised $5,000 dividend checks to every American back in July.

“We have so much money coming in, we’re thinking about a little rebate,” Trump said at the time.

He promised to send $2,000 payments to Americans on August 1, but those checks never materialized.

Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) sparked controversy when he introduced legislation to block “Biden supporters” from receiving dividend checks.

“So this is not going to the hedge fund managers or all the Biden voters,” Hawley said in an interview with Steve Bannon on “The War Room” podcast in July. “This is not going to the Wall Street kingpins, they don’t need any of it. This is going to the Trump blue collar voters, the people who Joe Biden crushed,” Hawley added.
