A Waymo self-driving robot taxi put passengers in danger when it ran a red light and drove passengers directly into the middle of a police standoff.

Dash cam footage shows the driverless robotaxi running a red light at an intersection and driving slowly past a man lying on the ground as police with guns drawn shout commands at him.

The confused man watched as the robotaxi slowed down to give passengers a better view of the action.

Other drivers did not proceed into the intersection. But Waymo cars can’t think. Therefore, they don’t understand the risks of driving into a police standoff.

The incident occurred after another Waymo robotaxi ran over a dog. Weeks earlier, a beloved bodega cat was killed by a Waymo robot car in San Francisco.

Waymo robot taxis recently got approval to expand service into Las Vegas, San Diego, and Detroit in 2026.

The driverless cars are already operating in cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. They can be booked through the Waymo app.

X (Twitter) users reacted to the robotaxi driving into the middle of a police standoff.

One person wrote, “Even the suspect is looking around like ‘is this s–t real??'”

Another person wrote: “Why does it slow down in the middle of the intersection. Is it thinking to itself ‘am I doing this right?'”

A third person commented: “Waymo was trying to help him get away. mf said hop in lol.”
