Retired NFL star Vernon Davis is accused of throwing books at a pregnant woman during an argument over an abortion at his home last May.
According to a criminal complaint filed on January 8, 2026, Vernon, 42, had a “disagreement” with a woman at his home on May 31, 2025 over her pregnancy and he asked her to have an abortion.
The unnamed victim told police he “was hitting me w/ magazines + books from under his TV” and he offered her $10,000 to have an abortion.
The former 49ers tight end reportedly stopped attacking her when the woman pulled out her phone to record him.
The woman said another argument broke out on June 7, 2025 when she accused Vernon of lying to her. She claims he slapped her in the face and told her “not to question him.”
She later recorded him saying, “If I really slapped you, your face would be” black and blue.
In her complaint, the woman said Vernon attacked her and caused visible bruises, according to TMZ.
A warrant for Vernon’s arrest was issued on Jan. 8 for assault and battery. He has a court date scheduled in February.
Vernon won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos. He most recently played for the Washington Commanders in 2019 before retiring in 2020.
He has three children with his ex-wife Janel Horne. They were married for 16 years.
Janel was there when the San Francisco 49ers drafted Vernon in 2006.
In a now-deleted 2016 Instagram post, Janel accused Vernon of cheating on her with a 20-year-old woman.
“When you give a man your all, 15yrs, 3kids, and you sacrifice your life and then he cheats on you with a 20yr old child and lies on you @vernondavis85,” Janel wrote, with a split image of Vernon and the woman.
In 2018, Vernon proposed to girlfriend Kayla Sortor. They are pictured together at an event in Atlanta in 2019.
Vernon booked 4 skydivers and a plane in Ocean City, Maryland. The skydivers jumped out of the plane overhead as Vernon and Kayla walked on the beach.
Each skydiver opened their suits to reveal the words “Will,” “You,” “Marry,” “Me?”
Then Vernon got down on one knee and asked Kayla for her hand in marriage.
Vernon said he didn’t know how she would react to the amazing proposal.
“I just expected her to be extremely surprised, and she was. She was happy. She just couldn’t believe it.”
Kayla said yes, but there is no public record of a marriage certificate.
