Bravo, the cable network that started it all with their Real Housewives reality series, is preparing a new docu-series (formerly called reality series) to keep you locked to your TVs.
According to The Hollywood reporter, the docu-series titled Married to Medicine will introduce viewers to “the fast-paced and drama-filled social scene of Atlanta’s exclusive medical inner circle.”
In English, that means a ratched new reality TV series featuring staged fights and lots of fake Visine tears. You know how Bravo does it.
I’m assuming the show will focus on the groupies who latch themselves to doctors, while hoping for the good life away from anything that resembles a 9-5 job. Yes, doctors have groupies, too. They’re called nurses.
Cast members include Toya Bush-Harris: married to emergency medicine physician Eugene Harris; Mariah Huq (married to Dr. Aydin Huq); Quad Lunceford-Webb (newly wed to psychiatrist Dr. Gregory Lunceford); Dr. Jacqueline Walters (who is presumably single); Kari Wells: a former British-born model who has been married to Colombian-raised orthopedic surgeon Duncan Wells for 10 years; and Dr. Simone WhitmoreCecil Whitmore.
It’s interesting to note that none of the doctors have named the hospitals or clinics where they work. (That’s nothing that a quick Google search can’t handle).
I personally know that real doctors are extremely busy in their chosen professions. I find it difficult to believe that they have the time for cameras following them around. Real doctors that I know don’t have fabulous social lives.
Then there is that pesky HIPAA privacy act that I’m sure will get in the way of any real drama involving patients of these doctors. Which probably means that any patients you see in the show are either actors or they signed a ton of paperwork to protect hospitals from lawsuits.
Married to Medicine will premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sunday, March 24.
