According to online reports, BP’s latest attempt to cap a well gushing oil 5,000 feet under the surface of the ocean, is not producing the results that BP had hoped.
BP had hoped the cap would contain 90% of the oil. But the cap that was placed over jagged remnants of a pipe at the wellhead yesterday is only expected to funnel 1,000 barrels of oil a day to a ship on the surface. The government estimates that 19,000 barrels of oil per day continues to gush into the Gulf of Mexico.
Oil is still escaping around the cap due to a poor fit of a rubber seal at the bottom of the cap.
BP spent all of Thursday lowering the cap over a jagged pipe on the wellhead. The jagged edges of the pipe was caused by large shears which was used to cut the pipe after a saw got stuck in the pipe earlier this week.
This news does not sit well with environmentalists and company shareholders who are tired of BP’s excuses.
Today, pictures of sick birds covered with oil blanketed the front pages of most of the nation’s newspapers.
Here are just a few examples of today’s newspaper headlines:
This is soooo sad….smh
O….M….G (I need to gather my thoughts) This is so close to home for me.
TERRIBLE…..IT’S JUST AWEFUL!!!
Seeing that poor bird just hurts me to my heart
Damn…that pic really hits home. I’m not an animal activist or even an animal lover but that pic really made me stop and say “Day-um” out loud…
WOW….BP needs to do something about this. This makes no sense at all!
These pictures are horrible…so sad. My heart hurts for the animals and the environment that is basically being killed.
Where are the world renowned scientist, engineers and people who are supposed to be well versed on well architecture? Can we please get in contact with those people and seek their guidance. BP’s team is not cutting it. This is not only effecting wildlife, but any business that depends on the now contaminated waters. This is so devastating.
congratulations on killing the evironment BP. this mess is going to spread all over in time and with hurricains. its going to kick all that oily water all over. when i see pictures like this i cant believe this is happening. these poor animals. they dont have a choice but to live liek this now. i saw photos of dolphins washing up on shore covered in oil. its really sad. i cant believe they did not have a plan for all scenerios of failure. they are just winging it now and everyone mostly the animals are suffering. its really sad to see this.
@Iyonah
I think that BP has decline the help of those ppl…..
BP is dunzo
This is so sad and will have lasting effects for the environment. It only takes a small change to make a huge negative impact in the wild. This oil will continue to leak well after August unfortunately…BP top officials should be tried and convicted for this!!! Its an outrage to say the least, and sad all at the same time
This shyt is devasating now…..and its still going to effect us years from now. Smh…….. BP phucked up majorly!!!!!!!!!
@Starr If I recall there were offers. That is where our gov’t should be stepping in and taking control IMO. All these hypothetical and what if suggestions should have been for the first two weeks only. I know there is a group of people that can get together and make this better that are not on BP’s payroll.
“Where are the world renowned scientist, engineers and people who are supposed to be well versed on well architecture?”
They work for BP…we did this though. My truck gets 14 miles to the gallon all around Atlanta. Might see 18 mpg after about 45 minutes of highway driving at a steady speed…and that rarely happens. I know I’m not the only one. We had to drill baby drill…
New Orleans was literally my favorite place in the world (and I’ve been a few places)…it was like a separate country in the US. After Katrina…the culture thinned out…after this…the remaining good food will be gone too. What’s left? My last two visits there had my heart hurting for the past…and then I ran up on a second line parade, a good dressed hot sausage poboy plus an outstanding 64oz daiquiri. I’m getting kinda sad.
I feel so disgusted looking at those pics.. This is 100x worse then the Exxon mess that occurred years ago.. I feel so bad for the animals and the people who currently directly affected by this mess. I am getting a little bit more worried, because we are officially in hurricane season, and even though I live in the East Coast, the winds will easily pick up the mess and bring it my way. This is a national issue and hate to say it, it feels like they are not trying hard enough to fix it, nor is it getting nearly as much attention as it should. God have mercy on us all!!!
Starr
really? woooooooow
This is NOT the time to be trying to save pocket change BP- we need to stand up on this seriously… I have a 1 yr old son and HIS future to think about…this is a damn shame!
I will not sit here like a phuckin
and watch these people destroy our country while tryna make a buck-
Thanks Sandra for your continued postings about this travesty
Ok…I’m sorry..whoever photographed that bird i swear they better have put that damn camera down and helped clean it off… >:(
I’m sorry i don’t have the heart to watch take the picture of that if i saw that i would immediately grab some gloves and break out the Dawn and start cleaning…poor bird not gonna suffer on my watch…

like that infomorcial after “The Deal” on EBT…
“Loveness walks to work at the age of 4 – 3miles in the hot African sun. She is bare footed cause shoes are a commidity she cannot afford”
(they show loveness walking to work with no shoes on)
I keep waiting for little loveness to scream out “Bish, Can i Get a Ride!” or “Nucca can i get some shoes..you look like you can afford it! and my Name Aint Luvness it’s Niokomaria”
This makes me cry like for real Is not fair what we doin to this world and everything In It.
This news shouldn’t sit well with anyone. The picture of that bird broke my heart….
Yes it is incredibly disheartening. I knew it was over when I saw the weatherman from Good Morning America in my city this morning that we have seen the last days of the beach. Now sadly its not even a thought for some people but the dynamics of this is sooooo great. I don’t fish or anything like that so thankfully I’m still employed but the way of life will change drastically. I live 10 min away from the beach. This is why my father uprooted my family and moved here. We had full access to the beach any day or night. BP is probably…well….the don’t care any less but its affected everyone. Before all of this, residents could say “close to the beach” on a real estate listing and you would automatically draw interest. I know that was going to be mine but now what would actually draw someone to buy my house? I know there’s nothing else here that would make me want to stay now but heck I doubt I can even sell my home and IF I could, how much has BP devalued my home with this mess? Its just crazy all together. I am hearing way too many things about how much time its going to take regain the beach’s original state and its upwards 20 years. 20 years? I mean thats just crazy.
I just read that they have a crew out there cleaning the birds
@ Ace
you almost made me split this darn soda on these yt people computer!
I can’t take it…I stop watching the news…these are animals are making me so sad. I feel sorry for them…
