Remember little Charice Pempengco, the Filipino girl who thrilled American audiences with her superb voice when she appeared on Ellen Degeneres and Oprah? Well, that little girl is 18 now and she is set to make her debut on the wildly popular TV show ‘Glee’.
Now that Charice has become Americanized, she has fallen victim to the music industry’s stereotypical image standard for young, female singers.
According to online reports, Charice, at the tender age of 18, underwent plastic surgery to reshape her face. She also got her skin lightened and botox treatments — all in an effort to “look fresh on camera.”
Wow. If Charice thinks she looks old and decrepit at 18, I wonder what she’s going to think when she’s 35? What sort of message does this send to other teenage girls?
The 18-year-old Charice, whose singing career rocketed after appearing on Ellen DeGeneres’ and Oprah Winfrey’s talk shows, underwent a 30-minute Thermage skin-tightening procedure and Botox to make her “naturally round face” more narrow, celebrity cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo told ABS-CBN television.
Charice, in the same interview, said last week’s face makeover was part of her big preparations for her appearance on the hit show’s second season. She starts filming at the end of this month. Read More…
ARE U FLUKIN KIDDING ME SHE LOOK OK THE WAY SHE WAS DAM PEOPLE DONT KNOW WAHAT TO DO WEN THEY GET LIL MONEY OR HOW TO ACT SOME CHIT RIGHT HERE
That face “narrowing” surgery ain’t work.
I think she looked better before
@SANDRA ROSE
Women of every culture through out history have attempted to lighten their skin. Even yts. Lighter skin in females has been valued for a long time.
Nah, I don’t remember her and really cannot get with ‘Glee’ so I guess I really don’t care about this
Sorry for the interruption…
Sorry Sandra, I don’t see the skin lightening. I see a tan and/or dark lighting in the second pic vs the first where she’s in bright light and obviously has on make up. Face narrowing, don’t see that either.
I’m sorry, but she is just following hte tradition of the Asian culture, cause they GO HARD IN THE PAINT WITH THE SKIN WHITENING – ALWAYS HAVE!
The salon where I get my eyebrows done sell 5 whitening mask for $25, and have plenty of postesr of pasty looking olive and yellow tone women.
Never heard of her before, but I dont see where her face is more “narrow” either
Nor do I agree that she should have undergone any kind of surgery. But to each its own. H3ll, if I had someone willing to pay for it, I’d have a few things tweeked as well
See, here we have a girl who was naturally beautiful before her make-over. Now she just looks like a ghost with make-up on.
i dont really see a difference other than she looks overexposed from a flash in one picture
Looks the same to me
@ardent, so true about the skin whitening. When I worked in Korea those ladies were spending tons of money on creams and procedures to whiten their skin.
It’s sad when an 18 year old feels the need to alter her image and natural beauty to fit the Hollywood mold. Auntie Oprah needs to call her on this one.
The second pic is also old.

That would be hypocritical of Oprah. She’s been tweaked as well.
she needs a refund because I see no change
I don’t see a difference but skin lightening is a problem all over the world.
Society, as a whole, is extremely confused. YT people want to be darker (tanning) and black people want to be lighter (skin lightening)! Just be glad with what you have and rock it…everyone doesn’t see beauty in the same things so why try to fit a mold?
Shoulda invested in a boob job. The R.O.I. on that is unquestioned.

I don’t see a difference in the face, but her skin does look lighter. Maybe from the lighting or whitening.
Man, I just don’t care™ says:

She needed not have messed with all the skin tightening. I think that she actually looks older rather than fresh-faced.

You’ll drive yourself insane trying to fit in the mold society deems as beautiful. That or run out of skin and body parts to tweak….

yeah like *cough* Kim K *cough*…i believe she’s running out
SLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW News Day!!!
@ LadyJustice – You’re right, it was Sandra who mentioned the lightening.
…and what is a skin tightening procedure anyway? Who needs that at 18? 18??? Shouldn’t her skin already be tight?
I watched an episode of Jessica Simpson show the price of beauty and the Asian women wanted lighter skin. They believe if you have darker the skin the less money you make. Something about working outside verses working inside

Watch it…
Further examination of the picture it appears as if she had her eyes done to make them appear bigger and less “chinky”. That type of surgery is all the rage with Asian people
Sadly I have followed her career on and off and she looks exactly the same. I don’t think she got anything done at all.
@Man What? I’m just sayin…she was beautiful before all that surgery and now it seems like she’s addicted to it. She never needed it in the first place

I thought I was the only person who watched that show.
The only thing different to me is her eyes. They look bigger. The lighting on the second picture isnt as bright as on the first.
I don’t know what she had done but she was quite pretty/cute before so the only people who had a problem with her looks was a) herself or b) close minded brainwashed folks.
DARKALICIOUS!!!!!!!
like everyone else said she looked fine before
She still has the same pie face. I don’t see a difference at all besides the fact that she’s older. Make-up could have lightened her…pointless.

I most definitely will. I like to hear the behind the scenes dirt on how these actors/actresses really are when the cameras are off.
She looks the same to me…
Speechman I plan to, I watched the one with BBD yesterday and enjoyed it,
Renegade every time I see your name I say it in my head like Eminem in his song!
Which one is the before and which one is the after? She looks the same to me.
She needs to get her money back…

The show turns into a bytch fest and I wonder why she did it, she has a gig playing Evangline and Layla’s mom on “One Life To Live”, but can’t wait to watch her talk about the cast of Fresh Prince.

The difference is that in Asian countries it’s not considered a problem. It’s more a fact that lighter skin is more beautiful. The closer to white the better. If she has indeed made her skin lighter I’m sure she has no problem to admit that because she comes from a culture where it’s accepted.
@ Brown, I missed the one with BBD….can I get a brief recap? Pleeeaase? I loves N.E., and anything affiliated.
In Asian countries, lighter skin is valued because of ancient traditions. If you were darker skinned that meant you worked in the fields and were a peasant. But if you had a light skin that meant that you were of the upper class.
People in all cultures have issues with skin color, sadly.
