For the first time in franchise history, the Indiana Fever won the Commissioner’s Cup championship on Tuesday. The Fever upset the favored Minnesota Lynx – without Fever superstar Caitlin Clark.

The All-Star guard missed her third straight game due to a groin injury. But Clark cheered her team on from the sideline.

“I just know everybody in the league is sick!”

The underdog Fever dominated the Minnesota Lynx 79-54 to win the grand prize of $620,000.

After the game, Clark held the Commissioner’s Cup trophy in the locker room in Minnesota. During center Aaliyah Boston’s livestream, Clark said, “Guys, I just know everybody in the league is sick!”

Clark was ranked ninth by WNBA players in All-Star voting. But she was ranked No. 1 by the fans in All-Star voting.

Sports journalists Jason Whitlock, Emmanuel Acho, Dick Vitale and Robert Griffin III said the players All-Star voting shows the league hates Clark.

Fever fans mocked ESPN for mistakenly tweeting a post-game wrap-up that showed the Minnesota Lynx “dominated” the Fever to win the Commissioner’s Cup.

One fan wrote: “The disrespect for the @IndianaFever is absolutely insane.”

Fever forward Natasha Howard was named Commissioner’s Cup MVP and center Aaliyah Boston scored a double-double.

Sean Combs Found Guilty On 2 Counts, Acquitted On RICO Charge

Update: July, 2, 2025 at 10:24 a.m.

Sean Combs was found guilty of 2 counts of prostitution, but acquitted on the most serious counts of sex trafficking on Tuesday.

Combs was acquitted of running a criminal enterprise (RICO) and two counts of sex trafficking.

Combs was found guilty of transportation of former girlfriends Cassie Ventura and “Jane” for prostitution acts.

The prosecution asked Judge Subramanian to keep Combs in jail until sentencing. The government is seeking a 20-year maximum sentence on the prostitution charges.

Combs’ defense attorney Marc Agnifilo asked the judge to release Combs from federal detention, where he has been since his arrest in September.

Update: July 1, 2025 at 5:04 p.m.

The jury has reached verdicts in Sean Combs’ RICO case in Manhattan. On Tuesday evening the judge received a note from the jury informing him that they can’t agree on count 1, the RICO charge.

The judge told them to jeep deliberating, but it is apparent that they will not reach a unanimous decision on that key charge.

According to Inner City Press, the jury sent a note saying they have reached verdicts on counts 2, 3, 4 and 5 (sex trafficking and transportation for prostitution) but they are divided on Count 1, the RICO charge.

The verdicts will be announced on Wednesday, July 2. Court is closed on Thursday and Friday for the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Update: July 1, 2025 at 11:24 a.m.

The judge in Sean Combs’ RICO trial snapped at his defense lawyers as the jury deliberated for a second day on Tuesday.

Judge Arun Subramanian snapped at the lawyers over the wording of a note sent by the jury on Monday evening. The note asked if a defendant can be convicted of possession with intent to supply narcotics if another person requested the drugs.

Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, objected and said that he didn’t think referring the jurors to the instructions about drug possession “goes far enough”. The judge snapped back, “It doesn’t matter if you think it goes far enough. Can you do what I’m asking or do you not want to?”

According to the judge, the defense’s proposed response to the note could cause “confusion” and “mislead the jury”.

The jury continues to deliberate in Sean Combs’ RICO trial in Manhattan. The judge handed the case over to the jury to begin deliberations at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30.

About 70 minutes, later, the jury passed a note to the judge saying juror 25 was not following the judge’s specific instructions.

“We have a juror, No. 25, who we are concerned cannot follow your honor’s instructions,” the note to Judge Arun Subramanian read, according to CNN.

The jury consists of eight men and four women. Juror No. 25 is 51 years old and has a Ph.D in molecular biology and neuroscience. He works as a veterinarian and lives in Manhattan with his partner, a freelance graphic designer, according to Forbes.

The note was shared with Combs and his attorneys when they returned to the courtroom on Monday afternoon. The judge ordered the jurors to continue deliberating.

“I remind every juror of their duty to deliberate and their obligation to follow my instruction on the law,” Subramanian wrote in a response to the note, according to CNN.

The judge’s instructions regarding deliberations are clear. The jurors must read the official verdict form and respond to the questions on the form. The first question is whether they believe Combs is guilty of the RICO charge. If yes, they are to decide whether he’s guilty of specific charges.

Later, the jury sent a second note to the judge requesting more information about the drug trafficking charge. The second note suggests one or more of the jurors found Combs guilty of RICO and now they are debating the specific charges.

But the second note can also mean a hung jury, since they can’t all agree on a unanimous verdict.

If convicted on all charges, Combs faces a minimum of 15 years behind bars and a maximum sentence of life in federal prison.

Rapper Nelly angered his fanbase by agreeing to perform for President Donald Trump’s Inaugural Ball on January 20.

In a recent interview, Nelly, 50, denied reports that he’s MAGA. He also slammed former Vice President Kamala Harris for locking up a record number of Black men while state prosecutor for California.

“Where did you get pro-Donald?” Nelly asked Hot97 host Ebro Darden. The rapper said he had “respect” for the office of the presidency.

In a comment on the Shaderoom Instagram blog, Nelly referred to Kamala Harris as “the prosecutor who has probably locked up more Black men than we’ve helped woman of color with the white husband did not win the election … Again I reiterate, I did not campaign for anyone. I do not tell people who to vote for. I respect and love our country from top to bottom good and bad.”

On an episode of Nelly & Ashanti’s new reality TV show, Ashanti’s mother expressed her disappointment with Nelly’s decision.

Ashanti and her mom, Tina Douglas, discussed her husband’s decision. Ashanti said there are pros and cons to everything, even though she disagreed with him performing.

Tina said her dad marched for civil rights and Nelly’s decision was “very emotional” for her. “My dad was heavy into civil rights,” said Tina. “He marched on Washington with Martin Luther King, and he also marched to Selma. When he came back to Glen Cove, he started to integrate the systems, the school system, the fire department, the police department. So he was deeply, deeply involved in civil rights and I’m very proud of him.”

Tina asked Ashanti for her thoughts and views on Nelly’s decision. “Ashanti replied, “Ultimately, it’s his decision. This is a new role. Being a wife is different than being a girlfriend,” Ashanti added.

Tina said, “This is a forever thing. So no matter what happens, you’re still gonna come together.”

Later, in a confessional, Tina said Ashanti tries her best in the marriage. “They’re a team.”

UPenn Bans Trans Athletes in Women’s Sports, Strips Lia Thomas of All Swimming Titles, Records

The University of Pennsylvania has banned transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. UPenn reached an agreement with the Trump administration after the Department of Education threatened to pause $175 million in federal funding to UPenn.

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said in a press release. “Today is a great victory for women and girls not only at the University of Pennsylvania, but all across our nation.”

Lia Thomas initially competed on UPenn’s men’s swim team

The University will also strip Lia Thomas’ swimming titles and records under the agreement. Thomas (pictured above) competed on UPenn’s women’s swim team and won an NCAA Division I title during the 2021-2022 season.

Thomas, 26, is the first known transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I title. Thomas initially competed on the men’s swim team at UPenn.

In 2018, Thomas came out as a transgender woman to family and coaches and began hormone replacement therapy in 2019.

Thomas (pictured with swimmer Riley Gaines) continued to swim on the men’s team during the 2019–20 season, while taking female hormones, and officially joined the women’s swim team in 2021.

The Department of Education found that UPenn violated Title IX when it allowed a male-bodied athlete to compete on a woman’s team and use female-only facilities.

The agreement requires UPenn to restore all female swimming records and titles that had been awarded to the transgender swimmer.

On Tuesday, UPenn updated its school records for women’s swimming, erasing Thomas as the all-time record holder in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle.

The school also issued apology letters to the affected female athletes. Swimmer Riley Gaines became an advocate for women’s sports after losing to Thomas while competing for the University of Kentucky.

Incoming President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January saying the United States would “recognize two sexes, male and female,” and the Trump administration would block funding to schools that allow transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports.

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham says WNBA players don’t want to play in Detroit or Cleveland

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham threw shade at the WNBA’s expansion cities Detroit and Cleveland. The WNBA announced three new expansion teams on Monday – Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia.

The new teams will bring the total number of WNBA franchises to 18.

“Who would want to play in Detroit or Cleveland?”

The WNBA is growing rapidly – thanks to Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, 23. But Caitlin’s teammate Sophie Cunningham is not impressed with the expansion cities.

Stacy Revere/Getty Images

Sophie spoke on Detroit and Cleveland during team practice before Tuesday night’s WNBA Commissioner’s Cup in Minneapolis. She said Detroit and Cleveland are the last cities she would want to play in.

Sophie noted that the league will allow teams to protect certain players, while the unprotected players will be forced to go to Detroit or Cleveland.

Michael Hickey/Getty Images

“You want to listen to your players, too. Like where do they want to play?” Sophie said of the WNBA’s selection process.

She wondered why the league chose those cities over Miami, which doesn’t have a WNBA team.

Michael Hickey/Getty Images

“Where are they going to get excited to play and draw fans? I do think that Miami would have been a great one,” she said. “Nashville is an amazing city. Kansas City, amazing opportunity. There’s a huge arena downtown that nobody is using.”

Sophie, 28, is best known for appointing herself as Caitlin’s bodyguard during a recent game. Sophie’s jerseys sold out within minutes after that game. She earned a black belt in Taekwondo at age 6 and played football in high school.

Sophie’s comments angered residents in Detroit and Cleveland.

Previously, there were reports of trouble at home. Instagram blogger Deuxmoi received a tip saying Steph and Ayesha had an open marriage.

“Have it on good authority that this well known NBA couple aren’t as faithful in love as their social media and image make them out to be! They both have side hookups and flings but keep it very private to keep up the perfect family image they show to the world. I was shocked to learn, they’ve been together for so long.”

In 2019, Ayesha famously complained that men weren’t sending her private messages on Instagram. She said she felt insecure and neglected because other men don’t notice her.

During an episode of Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk” Facebook web series, Ayesha Curry said she wished other men would notice her the way NBA groupies throw themselves at her NBA superstar husband.

“Something that really bothers me and has honestly, given me a little bit of an insecurity is like ‘Yeah, there are all these women throwing themselves [at Steph] but me, the past 10 years, I don’t have any of that. It sounds weird but I have zero male attention.”

Steph Curry, 37, and Ayesha, 36, met at a church function in Charlotte when they were 15 and 14 years old. They were married in 2011 and share four children. The Currys live in a $31 million mansion in Atherton, California.

Judge Dismisses Jay-Z’s Extortion and Defamation Lawsuit Against Tony Buzbee

A California judge dismissed Jay-Z’s extortion and defamation lawsuit against Houston attorney Tony Buzbee. According to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Los Angeles County Judge Mark Epstein said he was not “wholly satisfied” with his decision. He doubted that the defendant, Buzbee, knew he was peddling lies when he filed the lawsuit.

MEGA/WENN

Late last year, Buzbee added Jay-Z’s name to an amended lawsuit filed against music mogul Sean Combs. Buzbee represented a woman who claimed she was only 13 when Combs and Jay-Z raped her at a party in New York following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

MEGA/WENN

Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, claims Buzbee sent him 2 demand letters in early November, pressuring him to pay up before the allegations were made public.

Jay-Z, 55, claimed Buzbee should have known the allegations would ruin him financially and harm his rap career.

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

But the judge disagreed. “There is no demand for a particular sum of money, although that is not enough to protect the Letters,” wrote Judge Epstein. “The real problem for Carter is that the mediation request is about the sexual abuse allegations underpinning a potential civil case, and nothing else.”

Judge Epstein continued: “While it is true that the alleged conduct here constitutes criminal activity, defendants fall well short of threatening to go to the police unless Carter pays up. Selling silence as to law enforcement for money is extortion, but there is no promise of silence in the criminal context here. And selling silence for money in the civil context is not extortion; it is a settlement with a non-disclosure element.”

The judge said he was not “wholly satisfied” with his own decision and he would wait for the Court of Appeal to step in to determine whether his decision was “right or wrong.”

Judge Epstein ended his ruling with the phrase, “stay tuned.”

Chris Brown apparently settled a lawsuit with a British DJ over a nightclub attack in London. Brown was arrested in May in Manchester, England on assault charges after he attacked music producer and DJ Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle at a nightclub in London in 2023.

Metropolitan police stormed the 5-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester and arrested Brown on charges of causing “grievous bodily harm” during the unprovoked attack on Diaw.

Diaw sued Brown for assault with serious bodily harm in 2024.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Diaw asked the court to dismiss his case with prejudice, meaning he can’t file the lawsuit again.

A judge released Brown on bond after he promised to show up for future court dates. Brown appeared for a hearing on June 20 at Southwark Crown Court in London.

Brown, 36, was accompanied to court by his manager, Anthony Wilson, left, also known as singer Monica’s boyfriend.

The judge will likely drop the assault case if Diaw refuses to testify against Brown in court.

Brown’s Stadium World Tour kicked off in Manchester in June.

He faces a mandatory minimum 5-year prison sentence if convicted on the assault charge.
