Atlanta residents in their 50s and beyond are enjoying the single life with no regrets. Millions of seniors are hooking up online on dating sites such as Craigslist Personals and MatchSinglesOnly.

For many seniors being single is a choice. Dating over 60 can be intimidating, but there are dozens of apps and websites that make the single scene more inviting for seniors.

Tonya Lewis is the voice behind “The Diary of Dating Over 50.” Lewis, 63, is a model and flight attendant.

After her children grew up and moved out, Lewis began to date again. She almost got married – but she called the wedding off.

“I said, ‘You know what? I’m just going to be single for a while,'” she said.

While Lewis has not ruled out love, she said she’s not interested in proving her worth to men.

“I don’t want to have to always remind somebody, ‘Hey I’m over here!'” she said. “And that’s what you have to do. You’ve got to send them a picture then you’ve got to send them a text … you’ve always got to remind them that you’re over here… instead of them courting, pursuing.”

Some seniors say younger people don’t understand why they choose to remain single.

Missy Taylor tells AJC.com the choice to be single is sometimes shaped by loss.

Taylor, an associate minister at North Atlanta Church of Christ, helps lead a grief support group for people experiencing a loss.

“Adjusting to the idea of being single after a long period of relationship can feel overwhelming,” she told AJC.com. “They’re trying to figure out who they are now.”

She recalled a widow who shared season tickets to the symphony with her husband. The thought of attending the symphony without him was unbearable. But Taylor convinced her to go alone.

“She went, and it was a beautiful experience,” Taylor said. “She is finding ways to create a full life as a single person.”

Personal assistant: Sean Combs took drugs daily including pills shaped like former President Obama

Sean Combs’ former assistant, David James, testified on Tuesday that his boss had a daily drug habit that included taking drugs shaped like former President Barack Obama’s face.

James said Combs shared his drug habit with other Hollywood celebrities who often used the same drug dealers and pharmacists who didn’t ask questions.

Combs’ daily drug habit included taking Percocets and ecstasy pills. The ecstasy pills were in the shape of Obama’s face.

Federal prosecutor Christine Slavik asked James if he would pick up drugs for Combs.

James replied, “Yes, Percocets at a pharmacy,” and that he also picked up drugs from a drug dealer named “One Stop”.

The prosecution presented photos into evidence that showed drugs found at Combs’ hotel room in New York City when he was arrested and at his homes in Miami and California.

Slavik asked David James if Combs met with a lot of people. James replied that Combs “met former presidents like President Obama.”

But James didn’t implicate Obama in any wrongdoing and prosecutors didn’t indict any pharmacists or drug dealers.

The prosecution’s star witness Cassie Ventura named James as Combs’ “trusted assistant” who helped set up baby oil-soaked “freak-offs” in hotel rooms.

James said his job was to make sure the hotel rooms were stocked with clean underwear, an iPod, apple sauce, vodka, baby oil, Viagra and condoms.

James told the jury that he alone cleaned up the hotel rooms after Combs and Cassie’s freak-offs with male escorts.

James recalled a terrifying incident while driving an angry Combs who had three guns on his lap. Combs was on his way to confront Death Row Records founder Suge Knight in 2008.

But when they reached their destination, Knight and his crew were gone.

Brain dead Georgia woman’s baby may be born blind, family says

The unborn baby of a brain dead Georgia woman may be born blind, the family of Adriana Smith said. Smith is on life support at Atlanta’s Emory University Hospital. She is being kept alive due to the state’s law banning abortions.

Smith, 30, was nine weeks pregnant when she was declared brain dead in February. Emory Hospital refuses to take Smith off a ventilator because she is pregnant. Smith’s case has stirred emotions and raised questions about abortion laws and hospitals playing politics.

“It’s torture, Smith’s mother, April Newkirk, told a reporter. “I see my daughter breathing, but she’s not there.”

Newkirk said Smith went to Northside Hospital when she experienced intense headaches in February. The hospital sent her home on medication without running any diagnostic tests.

The next morning, Smith’s boyfriend found her unresponsive and making a gurgling noise. She was rushed to Emory Decatur and transferred to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where she worked as a nurse.

A CT scan showed blood clots and very little electrical activity in her brain. Smith was declared brain dead and later moved to Emory Midtown hospital in Atlanta.

Newkirk said blood clots and a brain bleed may have restricted oxygen to her daughter’s unborn baby. There’s a risk that he will be born with severe disabilities.

“My grandson may be blind, may not be able to walk. We don’t know if he’ll live once she has him.” Newkirk told WXIA. “And I’m not saying we would have chose to terminate her pregnancy. What I’m saying is we should have had a choice,” Newkirk added.

Georgia’s LIFE Act law bans abortions if a fetal heart is detected in the womb. Emory Hospital is following the letter of the law by keeping Smith alive until early in the 3rd trimester when the baby can be delivered safely.

“Let me be plain: this is a grotesque distortion of medical ethics and human decency,” Georgia State Senator Nabilah Islam Parkes wrote.

Georgia’s Attorney General Chris Carr says nothing in the LIFE Act law forces a hospital to keep a woman alive so her baby can be delivered.

“There is nothing in the LIFE Act that requires medical professionals to keep a woman on life support after brain death,” Carr’s office said in a statement.

Carr, a Republican, added that removing life support is not the same as terminating a pregnancy.

Emory Hospital insists it has consulted with clinical experts, medical literature, and legal guidance to make sure the hospital is “in compliance with Georgia’s abortion laws and all other applicable laws.”

A GoFundMe for Adriana Smith’s 7-year-old son has raised over $103,000.

GBI Rules Twin Brothers Shot Themselves On Georgia Mountain

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) ruled twin brothers Qaadir and Naazir Lewis shot themselves in a suicide pact on a mountain in rural Georgia.

The GBI said both brothers died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds on March 8. Investigators initially ruled their deaths as a murder-suicide.

The 19-year-old twins were found fatally shot on March 8 in rural Towns County, Georgia, nearly 90 miles from their home in Lawrenceville. A gun was found near the bodies.

Forensics evidence revealed both brothers had gunshot residue on their hands and their fingerprints were found on the gun.

After a lengthy investigation, the GBI ruled both brothers shot themselves on top of Bell Mountain.

The GBI said one of the brothers ordered ammunition for a gun three days before their deaths. The twins’ Internet search histories showed they searched for “how to load a gun” and suicide statistics for 2024.

The brothers were scheduled to fly to Massachusetts on the morning of March 7, but they missed their flight.

Later that night they were spotted on surveillance cameras at a Shell station on Hurricane Shoals Road near their home.

The footage shows the brothers eating snacks and drinking water around 10 p.m. on March 7. The gas station is about a 9 minute drive from their home in Lawrenceville.

The next morning, around 11 a.m., a hiker found their bodies on the mountain in Hiawassee, which is one of 9 “Sundown towns” in Georgia where Black people were hanged in the 1800s.

The GBI met with the family before releasing their findings to the news media.

The teenagers’ aunts, Samira and Sabria Brawner, also twins, don’t believe the brothers made a suicide pact.

“I know that something happened to them. I know that they were murdered,” said Samira Brawner. “They didn’t just walk up that mountain and die. Something happened to them.”

Despite the family’s concerns, the GBI said the investigation is officially closed.

Cassie’s ‘Freak-Off’ Partner The Punisher Speaks During Sean Combs Trial

A male escort who called himself “The Punisher” testified that he was one of Cassie Ventura’s “freak-off” partners.

Exotic dancer The Punisher, real name Sharay Hayes, testified during Combs’ sex trafficking trial on Tuesday, May 20.

Hayes said that Cassie enjoyed herself during their many “freak-off” encounters – despite her testimony that she was drugged and forced to participate.

Hayes told the jury that he was booked by Cassie for the first time in 2012 to participate in “freak offs.”

Hayes testified that he was told to meet Cassie at Trump Tower on Central Park West in New York City. He assumed he was being hired to perform for a group of women. But Cassie came to the door wearing a bathrobe and a wig. He said she handed him $800 in cash upon arrival.

Cassie told him that their “sexy scene” would involve the two of them applying baby oil on each other’s bodies.

Hayes said Cassie told him her “husband” would be joining them – but only to observe their intimate activities.

Hayes claimed he didn’t know who Cassie or Sean Combs were at the time. “I was specifically told to not acknowledge her husband,” Hayes said.

Hayes testified that Combs was nude when he entered the room wearing only a veil over his face. He said Combs pleasured himself in the corner.

Cassie and Combs left the room after about 30 minutes. Cassie then returned and asked Hayes if he wanted to “finish”, but Hayes declined.

He said she paid him an additional $1,200 and he left the hotel.

Hayes said Cassie booked him for later freak-off sessions. But he suffered from erectile dysfunction when Combs was in the room.

Hayes tried taking ED drugs Cialis, Viagra and a “corner-store pill,” but nothing worked.

Hayes realized he suffered from ED when Combs directed his freak-off sessions with Cassie.

“Me, personally, a sexual scenario with a woman’s partner present actively giving directions was not the norm for me, so it created some discomfort that could affect my performance,” Hayes testified.

After failing to maintain his erections, Hayes wasn’t booked for any future freak-off sessions with Cassie.

During her testimony last week, Cassie confirmed she recruited hundreds of male escorts for her enjoyment. She said Combs never participated in the debauchery, but he observed the sex acts while pleasuring himself.

Federal agents found a “freak-off” kit among Sean Combs’s belongings when he was arrested at a Manhattan hotel in September.

Prosecutors released a stash of photos that showed the contents found in Combs’s hotel suite.

Agents found a prescription bottle of Klonopin with the alias name “Frank Black” on the bottle. Klonopin is a benzodiazepine used to treat anxiety disorder.

It is illegal to write a prescription to a patient using an alias name.

The photos also showed travel size bottles of baby oil, $9,000 cash, and assorted prescription drugs.

Federal prosecutors charged Combs with sex trafficking, prostitution, racketeering, arson, and other counts. His trial began on May 5.

A fifth fugitive was captured by police days after 10 inmates escaped from a decrepit New Orleans jail.

19-year-old Corey Boyd was recaptured on Tuesday, May 20, by Louisiana State Police (LSP) in the Iberville neighborhood.

Boyd is one of 10 inmates who broke out of the Orleans Parish Justice Center around 1 a.m. Friday morning.

“Boyd was originally incarcerated at the Orleans Justice Center for Second Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, and Threatening a Public Official,” LSP said in a statement on Tuesday.

Four other inmates were quickly captured after escaping from the facility. Dkenan Dennis, 24, was caught while walking down the street on Friday. Kendell Myles, 20, was found hiding under a car at a hotel on Friday.

Robert Moody, 21, was spotted sleeping peacefully on a bus bench on Friday. He was hungry and exhausted after about 16 hours on the run.

Gary C. Price, 21, was taken into custody in New Orleans East on Monday.

The four inmates were transferred to the notorious Louisiana State Penitentiary, also known as Angola prison, where they will be on lockdown 23 hours a day.

A prison maintenance worker was arrested on Tuesday and charged with helping the 10 inmates to escape.

The manhunt continues for 5 more inmates who escaped from the New Orleans jail in Louisiana.

A $40,000 reward is being offered for the whereabouts of the other 5 escaped inmates. The 5 fugitives are considered armed and dangerous.

Cassie’s Mom Says Sean Combs Forced Her to Pay $20K After He Caught Cassie Cheating On Him

Cassie Ventura’s mother, Regina Ventura, took the witness stand during Sean “Puffy” Combs’ sex-trafficking trial on Tuesday, May 20. Regina Ventura testified a week after her daughter’s 4-day testimony about her abusive relationship with Combs.

Regina testified that government exhibit photos showing bruises on her daughter were taken when Cassie came home for Christmas in 2011. Regina said she took the photos herself to keep as evidence.

“She was bruised, and I wanted to make sure that we memorialized it,” Regina told the jury.

Federal prosecutors asked Regina about an incident that occurred while Cassie cheated on Combs with rapper Kid Cudi.

Regina testified that she received an email in December 2011 from Cassie saying that Combs was so angry about the relationship with Cudi that he planned to release sexually explicit videos of her and send someone to hurt them.

Regina said she was forced to pay Combs $20,000 so the videos would not be leaked.

Regina recalled she received a demand from Combs for $20,000 in cash “to recoup money he had spent on [Ventura] because he was unhappy she was in a relationship with Kid Cudi,” according to CNN.

“He was angry that he had spent money on her and she went with another person,” Regina told the jury.

Regina said she borrowed the money using a home equity loan because “I was scared for my daughter’s safety.”

Combs wired the $20,000 back to Regina days later, and her daughter began dating Combs again.

CNN reports that the government has bank records that shows both transactions.

Other government witnesses expected to take the stand during Combs’ 2-month trial include Combs’s former personal chef, former Danity Kane member Aubrey O’Day, and male escorts.

WNBA Investigating Angel Reese’s Racist Meme Trolling Caitlin Clark

The WNBA is reportedly investigating Angel Reese reposting a racist meme targeting Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark.

The WNBA previously launched an investigation into alleged racist slurs toward Reese that never happened.

Reese reposted a racist TikTok meme trolling her “white gyal” rival Clark.

The meme shows Clark walking away fouling Reese during the Fever’s season opener against the Chicago Sky at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana on Saturday.

Clark later said the flagrant 1 foul was a “basketball play” – and Reese agreed in her postgame interview.

However, Reese reposted a TikTok screenshot that shows her intense reaction after Clark fouled Reese.

The screengrab was captioned: “white gyal running from the fade.”

The screengrab no longer appears on Reese’s TikTok feed.

“Do something to protect Clark or she’ll be gone”

The backlash on X (Twitter) was swift. One person wrote: “Why is the WNBA okay with race baiting when it’s a white woman?”

Another person wrote: “@WNBA. I found the racist you’re looking for: AKA Angel Reese.”

A third person commented: “WNBA needs to suspend her already. Do something to protect Clark or she’ll be gone and you’ll be back to being irrelevant. I’ve never seen a league try and crash out like the WNBA! No place for racism!”

After beating the Chicago Sky in their season opener, the Indiana Fever lost to the Atlanta Dream by 1 point at home on Tuesday night.

The Fever (1-1) will try to even the score against the Dream (1-1) on Thursday, May 22, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Chris Brown Released On Bail After Assault Arrest in England

Chris Brown can go on tour next month in the UK and Europe after a London court released him on bond on Wednesday.

Brown was arrested on assault charges in Manchester, England last week.

He was denied bond during a hearing on Friday in Manchester. However, a London judge released the Grammy-winning American singer on $6.7 million (USD) bail on Wednesday, May 21.

Brown, 36, was arrested by Metropolitan police at a 5-star hotel hours after he arrived in Manchester on a private jet on Thursday, May 15.

He faces charges of “grievous bodily harm” for smashing a tequila bottle over the head of music producer Abraham “Abe” Diaw at Tape nightclub in London in 2023.

Diaw also filed a civil lawsuit against the “Residuals” singer/songwriter in 2023.

Brown did not appear at the bail hearing in Southwark Crown Court when Judge Tony Baumgartner set his bail conditions.

The bond will be forfeited if Brown fails to return to court to answer the charges.

In addition to paying the court a $5.4 million “security fee” to secure his release, Brown must pay an additional $1.3 million guarantee fee to the court within a week.

His manager, Anthony Wilson (also known as singer Monica’s man), was seen delivering KFC chicken and clean underwear to Brown at the Manchester county jail earlier this week.

Attorneys for Brown say he will accept a plea deal (if one is offered) to avoid a mandatory minimum 5-year prison sentence on the assault charge.

Sources close to Brown’s camp tell XXL that a plea deal may be in the works. A plea deal may also include fines, mandatory therapy, or other court-ordered measures.

Brown is preparing for his Stadium World Tour that is scheduled to kick off in Manchester in June.
