Pat Buchanon on Obama’s race speech: ‘Where’s the gratitude?’

I love racist people. They keep us alert and remind us that we can’t ever sleep on them. No one knows this more than presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The words that come out of a racist’s mouth clearly illustrates why the First Amendment of the United States Constitution is so important. Racists have the freedom to spew their hateful rhetoric and their words allows us to see how small minded and pathetic they really are.

In a post on his conservative right wing blog, nationally syndicated columnist Pat buchanon responded to Barack Obama’s speech on race by taking the stance that many white Americans took: that Obama was talking down to them.

“Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America,” writes Buchanon. “Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.”

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?

Barack talks about new “ladders of opportunity” for blacks. Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America’s fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

I can’t/don’t even want to click on the “read more” link. I have read enough. This makes me sick to my stomach – literally. Is this man serious? To think that WE should be happy that we were kidnapped from our home against our will, herded onto a ship in chains, brought to a foreign land with no knowledge of self and whipped so bad that we wished for the day to be free or dead, not knowing where we were going or what was ahead. We had a religion forced upon us that people still to this day are questioning that.

But you know what, we need more ppl like him and Don Imus, Paris Hilton’s, others that I don’t care to remember, to come out, that makes it less harder for me to try and pick through their mess.

Am I supposed to be mad at what he said? He’s right. The conversation does need to go both ways. The questions he asked are legitimate questions that need answers and solutions. We talk about it all the time amongst ourselves. Lets open up the discussion.

I say white folks love to stick a piece of gum on a crack in a dam and act like the problem is fixed. They cover their eyes to the truth like its a scary movie. I actually heard a CNN host say that he is sure 99. something percent of Americans are not racist. I was like, “dude is you crazy?” Come the f*ck on.

So yeah lets talk about it and yes white folks can air their grievences and yes I’m so grateful for that price my ancestors paid to have me be born America. Yes I admit it. I’m glad to be here and not in Africa.

I went to the Pat Buchanan page to read the post in its entirety. Since comments were “closed” on that page (good for him, I suppose, otherwise he’d KNOW he’d get a deluge of responses), I’ll respond here.

First – Black people are supposed to say, “Oh, thank ya, Mister White Man, for dragging us from our homelands, where we were butt-naked with bones in our noses praising pagan gods to bring us to this good and perfect White America where we were introduced to “proper” religion!” ARE YOU F****ING KIDDING ME??!!

Black people are supposed to say, “Oh, thank ya, Mister White Man, for beating us into submission, auctioning us off like cattle, raping our mothers and denying the children like they don’t exist (ahem, Thomas Jefferson!), giving us the scraps of food to eat while you eat good in the house, outlawing reading and writing, and killing us if we try to run away to freedom!!” ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME??!!

I for one, wasn’t completely offended by Jeremiah Wright’s remarks. In many respects, I believe many black folks DO BELIEVE that this country IS run by priviliged, RICH, WHITE MEN! These priviliged, rich, white men are that way (in my opinion) because the name of the game is to make your money off of the sweat and backs of the underclass. Hello…colonialism. Need sugar cane? Go to the West Indies, enslave the people, kill the women & children, & take over! Need to build up this new land? Pull slave labor from Africa and put these ignorant animals (as I’m sure we were viewed in some cases) to work! Where is OUR gratitude? Hey, rich white man in power – WHERE IS YOUR GRATITUDE??!! Sure, it was even all good with the Native Americans while they were taking care of your STARVING ASS (Thanksgiving), but then when you don’t need them anymore – Kill them or ship them off with polio-infected blankets! God Bless America??

Let’s not forget Asian-Americans and their contribution to the development of this country, as miners, farmers, factory workers and railroad builders on the West Coast. But then during a time of depression in 1876, cries of “They’re taking our jobs” sparked rampant violence and anti-Chinese legislation, including the Chinese Exclusion Act (1882). SOUND FAMILIAR?? (AHEM, HISPANIC IMMIGRATION!) Don’t they also sound like the disgruntled, middle-class white men Obama has so much issue now with in Ohio (and now Pennsylvania)?

But you see, this is exactly why there will ALWAYS be an issue with IMMIGRATION. You have some folks guarding the borders (and rightly so, since we really don’t need any more 18th Street Gang Members in LA, or MS-13 gang members anywhere else in this country), but then you also have other folks that are more than happy to pick up Hispanic day laborers. Once again, the insatiable thirst for cheap labor is the backbone of economic growth! Have you noticed how Target & Wal-Mart have all of their signs in both English and Spanish? Even The Olive Garden has complete menus in Spanish if you ask. The rich people in power don’t want the Spanish to go back to Central America no more than they want black folks to go back to Africa. Both races have a large amount of spending power. HELLO!! That’s why they want the tax checks to go to middle and lower classes first – because they know those people will SPEND that money on jewelry, clothes, shoes, cars, or whatever else!!

PARTIALLY, YES!! WHILE “WHITE AMERICA” HAS BUILT WEALTH AND PROSPERITY OVER SEVERAL GENERATIONS IN THIS COUNTRY, Blacks have been subject to racist exclusion and inequity, in social, political and economic matters in this country. Blacks were unable to do this – damn, we would have been cool to AT LEAST start with that “promised” 40 ACRES & A MULE (THAT WE NEVER GOT, BY THE WAY). And even when we were given something, scientists spent years trying to prove that our genes made us somehow inferior.

PARTIALLY, YES!! All you have to do is compare teachers, resources and equipment in a rich, priviliged private school vs. a public school in the ‘hood.

Buchanan says, “Let him go to Altoona and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for “deserving” white kids.”

DUHH!! If the kids are in Catholic schools, THEY ARE ALREADY RICH ENOUGH NOT TO NEED SCHOLARSHIPS TO IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS, where a large number of smart, deserving African-American students would NEVER have the financial means to attend!! HOW CAN PAT BUCHANAN BE SO F***ING STUPID??!

We’re supposed to say, “Thank ya, Mister White man, for Medicaid, Welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services to help us stay in a never-ending cycle of poverty.” PAT BUCHANAN has LOST HIS MIND.

PAT BUCHANAN says we should be grateful, because the white man has helped the ignorant, jungle-bunny, spear-chucking African find Christian salvation and reach the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

WHO’S TALKING DOWN TO WHOM, PAT BUCHANAN?!!

PEOPLE, I support Obama, but I still have a hard time believing that this country is ready for a Black President. Many of them are scared we’re going to try and take revenge for ALL that they’ve done….

What do they think? Obama’s going to start smoking weed in the White House? Put big chrome rims on Air Force one so it looks like SOUL PLANE? Do they think Obama’s going to suddenly pardon and release all the ignorant, gun-toting thugs back onto our streets (remember the fools in Indiana who killed those girls and their kids)?

If blacks had equal educational opportunities and a level playing field maybe Amerikkka wouldn’t have the high crime and high school drop rates amongst black folks…White Amerikka placed us in their white system designed for our failure then critisizes us for falling victim to their trap…You take a race of people and strip of us our heritage and human rights and remind us that we’re inferior every day then you wonder why some of us act the way we do.

Once again the skewed statistics spill out to kick up fear and stereotypes, he goes on about the incidents of white on black crime, then he says soup kitchens, welfare and SECTION 8 was good, because it brought blacks into the mainstream. Pat Buchanan is also the same guy that told journalist Kelli Goff to SHUT UP! On Live with Dan Abrahms a few weeks ago. He had a problem with a black journalist who kept interrupting him during their live broadcast. She’s intelligent and kept challenging him on his mind empty rhetroric. You can just look in a persons’ face sometimes and see when they are hateful. Obama’s speech was perfect in that it allowed a starting place for race dialogue to begin without pointing fingers. Buchanan is one of those who want to keep racial divisions going, this is why he’s dismissing the speech. He’s a twit.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

Pat Buchanan, Imus, the fall out from Obama’s pastor…all of this will only make Blacks unify. If we could ever do that – if we could ever raise ourselves up together and stop having to depend on YT – all of this booty chatter wouldn’t matter.

I really think that with all of this “new” blatant racism, we, as a race, just might find a way to love ourselves, for real, without YT’s approval. We just might unify and actually get somewhere. I have the audacity to hope for that.

I’m not even suprised anymore, another ignorant racist person is not even going to get a rise out of me. NC_NYer – very well put. Probably one of the few “long” comments that I have read in a while.

My only point on the subject is just because this One white man decided to speak out of his azz, he doesn’t speak for EVERY white person. When one idiot decides to publicly speak racistly everyone is quick to lump everyone of that race as having the same thoughts as the “racists” person. No matter what race the comments are coming from. He is an idiot and should speak only for himself and should be taken as that, not that the whole white race agrees with him.
