Before today I never knew why Halle Berry won that Oscar for her role in “Monster’s Ball.” I never saw the movie, but I’ve seen Halle try to act her way out of paper bags in other movies.
Thanks to the good folks on Thecrusade.net, I got the chance to see once and for all what all the hooplah was about.
I must agree that this was an Oscar worthy performance by Hally Berry - who took faking an orgasm to a whole ‘nother level! On the other hand, Billy Bob Thornton was a bore. Halle could have done this scene by herself and she still would have won the Oscar.

I am going to watch when I get home. I have never seen the movie either and always thought Halle’s acting was less than medicore. Unless she is playing a crackhead.
Nobody plays a better crackhead then Alfre Woodard..she wins that hands down!lol

I will admit I saw the movie, I really didn’t know what to think of it or that particular scene(lol) but I guess they felt she deserved it I mean if u doing a sex scene with ol Billy Bob then u truly do deserve something(lol)!!! He is such a turn off I don’t know what Angelina saw in his grungy looking a$$!!

Damn, I thought I was the only one that thought she was not as good as an actress as they make her out to be.
This is too funny my friends and I were just discussing the fact that shes not that great of an actress.Shes just pleasant to look at.
As far as I am concerned Halle has yet to display Oscar worthiness in any film including this one. The academy was just trying to make up for shunning the people that really did deserve it: Angela Bassett in What’s Love Got to Do With It and Whoopie Goldberg in The Color Purple.
Oh and BTW I saw this movie in the theater and when it was over I just sat there in shock.I was like are they friggin kiddin me, a Razzie would be too good for this movie.
Angela Bassett! Now THAT’S an actress..she was so good in What’s Love Got To Do With It, that when Tina came on at the end it didn’t seem right! It was like Tina was playing Angie’s role..Halle is mediocre, although I will give her credit with Introducing Dorothy Dandridge..
2bme - nobody can play a crackhead better than Gator. Sam Jackson did that! Whitney came close, but Samuel did it.

New Jack City is still one of my fav movies and Pookie the crackhead, too funny. @ms. peaches, yeah the crackhead beauty queen saying “this is beneath me”, cracks me up everytime. Down in the Delta I only watched pieces and parts. Although I guess I should have pre screened it. My kids have seen it countless times. lol.

He did not just play one on tv. At the same time you have to admire someone who released his skeltons from the closet.
It just goes to show how some ppl use addiction as a crutch. Like some celebs are addicted to fame and attention. Samuel L Jackson is a great actor with raw talent and I am so glad that he realized his gift but has no problem talking about his past. Now that is a true measure of a man.
this scene was totally gratuitous. it looked like at the last minute they offered Halle an additional $100k to go all the way. The scene didn’t even make sense. In fact the whole movie was a big fat zero, P-Diddy included.

Reading the comments in the room, I don’t feel like I missed much. I am home from work and still can view but it seems like I did not waste my money nor time on this movie. I did hear that Halle did get paid extra money to show her boobs. That being said, is that why she has not sold pics of her new baby. I say it is ok as a celeb to sell the first pics of the baby to the highest bidder but pic a respectful one. We the public do want to know what the babies look like. I also say that if you are going to sell the pics set up a charity with the millions or just donate the money.
I am not a celeb, who didn’t know that. lol. After having my kids I did not want anyone to hold them, sneeze on them or babysit them. I Can’t imagine a camera crew with all their germs in my home taking pics of my new baby to pimp out. For all of those that don’t believe in Halle’s acting talent, I suggest you go rent “Queen.” After watching that miniseries when it first aired years ago, I’ve believed in her acting ability ever since.
Having said that, she shouldn’t have received the Oscar for “Monster’s Ball.” What a mess that they would finally give the coveted award to a Black woman after doing such a tasteless scene in a movie.

In Down in the Delta Alfre was portrayed as some out of control weed head which was totally inaccurate, because potheads don’t be fiending like that.
In Lady Sings the Blues Miss Ross portrayed a heroin addict. And she was damn good at it.

now that i’m finally home and i got a chance to watch this uncut version…it was just gross!! somebody was really getting their groove on. say what you want but some pleasantries were exchanged in that scene. somebody needed a d*mn towel when that was over with and it wasn’t to wipe sweat okay…if she got that d*mn oscar for this…then surely she could get one for boomerang!lol.
the movie suck, but halle deserved the oscar for that part of the movie!
