I knew it! I could tell by the way Erykah Badu looked so complete whenever she was around her protege, Jay Electronica. I profiled the amazing wordsmith back in January of this year. I knew he was more than just her protege by the look in his eyes when he was around her. I saw that same lost-in-love look in Andre Benjamin’s eyes when I snapped a photo of them at a Sol Fusion party back in the 1997.

“We just friends,” mumbled Dre of the then unknown Erykah Badu. But I could tell he was lying. The photo I took that night of the couple made the cover of Ebony magazine’s Feb. 1998 issue on 10 Hottest Couples. By then Erykah was an established star in her own right and had a son by Benjamin.

It seems Erykah is drawn to kindred spirits whose paths in life are preordained. Erykah’s other baby daddies are West Coast rapper The D.O.C., and now Jay E. More evidence that Jay E is destined for greatness. Congrats to the happy couple!
