Throwback Mondays: Karyn White – Superwoman

“Superwoman” was the second single from R&B singer Karyn White’s self-titled debut album. Karyn White was the embodiment of the New Jack swing sound originally introduced by Teddy Riley.

Karyn’s first album went platinum on the strength of this #1 hit and other stellar tracks such as “Secret Rendezvous” and “The Way You Love Me” — the latter of which earned her a Grammy nomination.

As you watch the kitchen scene in this video, try to recall where you’ve seen it before. :)

    I couldn’t stand Superwoman!

But I loved, loved, loved “Secret Rendezvous” and “The way you love me”.

My daughter liked “the way you love me”, the FIRST time she heard it, and she’s only 13. LOL

Talking about “I’m dedicating this song to you mommy.”…….blank stare……

Yes! This was the song. If you were over 6 years old when this joint was out then you should know all the words, cause I know your mama, your auntie, your grandma, your big sister, somebody had this one on constant repeat for about a month.

i HATED this song too pryn. i remember thinking how stoopid she was to be taking all that shyt off his azz…and she needed to dump the coffee with the sugar and cream on him. that is part of the lyrics somewhere but i distinctly remember thinking that.

and i was a youngin back when this came out. i think i hated it cause my moms and big sis hated it too.

her second LP was hot too (romantic, the way i feel about you, and walking the dog). she married terry lewis and they lived in a 25,000 crib. he’s of jimmy jam/terry lewis, the mega producers. i hear after they divorced, she ended up on welfare and living in a small apartment. they have a daughter together.

i think she went on to remarry. i miss her singing though. karyn was a bad girl. “love saw it” by she and babyface; that’s still a classic.
