Legendary R&B/pop singer Aaliyah was born on this day in 1979. Her life ended in a tragic plane accident on August 25, 2001 in the Bahamas. Aaliyah would have turned 30 today.

@ Daisy many people I know were raised by their grandparents and were all the better for it. I feel like I was raised by grandparents since my dad is 70 and I’m in my 20′s you do the darn math, LOL!
And the primary caretaker should be whomever is going to provide a warm, safe, loving environment no matter their title or involvement in your life, well that’s what I believe anyway.
@kcicero …. I agree with what you are saying. what I meant was that it’s not your grandparents responsibilty to raise you they have already raised their kids but when the mother or father is not fit or around then the next best ideal situation would to be raised by your grandparents.
My mama was 10mins down the road. She was very active in rasing me. I am the oldest and the FAV as my sister loves to say..lol It was just easier if we (I have 2 other cousins the exact same age grew up like sisters) stayed w/ grandma during the school yr since it was right next door. My grandma just turned 90 last mth! So she is still around as well.
All sade CD’s are awesome!!!! SHe truly has talent and can sing her band is the best if you have never seen her in concert man you missed an awesome show she sounds just like her CD unlike many artist today!!!!!!!!

R.I.P Aaliyah…its funny because if she were still alive, Bey wouldn’t stand a chance just like if Big were alive her man Jay would be second grade. Both have profited big time by their deaths. What a pity…on a different note, is it me or is it crazy that the Bahamas is like the breeding ground for celebrity deaths(mysterious ones at that). Aaliyah, Anna Nicole’s son and now John Travolta’s son, its all a little creepy!

My grandmother is still alive but she does not know who I am she has alzheimers she is 84 thats cool your grandmother is still here. Let me tell you alzheimers is a very hard disease its sad and frightening I would rather have cancer than to loose my mind and not know my love ones.

I live in Elkins Park but I grew up in the Raymond Rosen Projects 24th and Diamond, close to Temple University’s campus.

Well, I don’t know which one of our neighborhoods is worse. I live near ‘The Bad Lands’. Helicopters fly around almost every other night. Sometimes I think they do it as a test, hopefully.

I share the exact same sentiment.
I have been in Philly for a while now, girl, it takes some adjusting to this fast life.
2 blocks down is a good neighborhood and then 1 block over is a bad one. I hate ‘the bad lands’ just stays BAD and no one trys to change it though. South Philly suffocates me. Mount Airy bores me. lol But ain’t nothing like summer time in the city/Philly ;o)
