Jaafar attended the premiere with his girlfriend Maddie Simpson. Jaafar cleared up a “misconception” that his famous uncle wanted to be white. “I would say that’s the big misconception,” Jaafar told Extra. He said the film explains that Michael was diagnosed with vitiligo, which turned his skin white.

Michael’s sister, La Toya Jackson, said her sister, Janet Jackson, “kindly declined” to be portrayed in the film. Janet skipped the Hollywood premiere and stayed home in London. She reportedly hated the movie and had something negative to say about every scene at a private screening.
