A few loyal readers tipped me to this audio on Illseed’s blog on Allhiphop.com. The layout of that page is so wonky I had to scroll up and down it 3 times before I found the audio tucked up under a Bow Wow video that nobody cares about.
This should have been the first story on the page. But hey, my blog is just as bad so who am I to complain, right?
Now what were we discussing? Oh yeah, soul singer and legend Etta James, who is very much a lady, says she can’t stand Beyonce and she wants to whup Beyonce’s ass — and it’s all on tape!
Etta also earned major points with me when she said about Barack Obama, “He ain’t MY president!”

that was nasty, classless and totally unnecessary. beyonce was invited to the inaugural ball and that song was specifically requested by MY President and the First Lady. etta james needs to get a life and should feel honored somebody thought enough of her to even include her character in a major motion picture.

That’s not really Etta James’ reputation. It really wasnt back in the day. I read her bio and i also know “the lady” wasnt the portrayal in the film. Etta didnt want Beyonce to even perform her in the film because she was too prissy, I mean she might be a lady now….but she’s gritty and i like that about her.
but i wondered why it wasnt her–etta singing and not beyonce. it seemed semi-offensive or like unfair.

Why does everyone keep saying Beyonce was invited to sing? What if Beyonce paid a hefty donation to the committee? There are alot of things that we dont see and the industry is still full of pay to play. I dont believe Beyonce was asked, I think she asked them and she didnt have a song in her own catalog to sing that woud fit the occassion so her people might have went to the committee and pitched the song and pitched that Obama likes Beyonce. I honestly dont beleive the Obama’s hand picked any of the performeers because they had a lot going on. I think older artist like Etta James should have performed because she was around during the struggle and racial tensions. The committee put together a young line up to draw more young people in. Has anyone asked why did Jay Z perform? His song was garbage and a little embarassing, they asked.
Etta has a right to be mad because the Knowles were shady to her in ther beginning. Beyonce did not meet Etta before playing Etta James, she went to a rehab facility. Etta did not want Beyonce playing her but her son had to convince her to do it and it wasnt so much of the sound but it was the look he told her. They are posing for pics on the red carpet because they wanted to look cordial, this is the industry people smile for pics and it looks great to us but it could be a different story. Etta may be in her 70’s but she is still an Icon and when Beyonce reaches that age and some kid remakes Single Ladies, bets and believe she will be mad.
