It’s a Boy For Mummy M.I.A.

Sri Lankan star M.I.A. (“Paper Planes”) gave birth to a boy, according to online reports via Contactmusic.com:

Indian gossip website DesiHits.com was the first to report the Paper Planes hitmaker, who performed on her due date at the Grammy Awards (08Feb09), gave birth to a baby boy on 12 February (09).

In a recent interview, the singer/rapper revealed she thought her child would be a boy, stating, “It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a boy or a girl. If it’s a girl she will be a tough girl, but I think I may have a boy because I have a pointy stomach.”
M.I.A., real name Maya Arulpragasam, was so worried about going into labour at the Grammys, she had an ambulance, stretcher and golf cart on standby – and her fiance Benjamin Brewer used a stopwatch to time her contractions shortly after she came off stage following her performance with Jay-Z, T.I, Lil Wayne and Kanye West.

The baby’s dad, Ben Brewer, is the biracial son of Edgar Bronfman Jr., CEO of Warner Music Group, who comes from one of the wealthiest Jewish families in Canada.

Bronfman Jr.’s marriage to Brewer’s black mother, Sherry Brewer, was a source of contention between Edgar Jr. and his dad, Edgar Bronfman Sr., the wealthy heir to the Seagrams liquor fortune.

Bronfman Sr., considered by some to be racist, wrote in his memoirs:

“I very much wanted for him to end the relationship, because I told him, all marriages are difficult enough without the added stress of totally different backgrounds. Sherry offered to convert [to Judaism], which though well intentioned, was not the point.”

Edgar Jr. and Sherry had two more children before divorcing in 1991.

Before y’all say I spelled “mommy” wrong, that’s how we spell it in London.

LOL @ Sandra claiming those London roots at every opportunity. :-)

Well, heck, the Bronfman Sr. had a point. It probably is hard, but surely he loved his Grandchildren and probably got a good ways past the “racism”.

And congrats to M.I.A. I thought she looked so cool prancing around the stage about to pop.

Look, all I got to say is she should have not had her big belly on that stage in the first place. Anything could have gone wrong. I am sick of all these big belly women thinking it’s cool to act like they are teeny bopers.

By the time M.I.A. took the stage, the baby was fully developed and due. The dancing was another way of walking around to make the baby “come down”. She looked cute and kinda became every woman in that performance: life giving, confident, “hard”, “soft”, talented, hard working, determined, happy.

So, it’s like … Go Girl.

    See…

I don’t think that Bronfman Sr., statement to his son concerning mix marriage was racists, I think that it was prudent…and ON SPOT!!! One of my favorite movies in the world is “Guess who’s coming to dinner”…and that was the thought process regarding that landmark movie about interracial marriages…

And considering the outcome of the marriage…

    OH WELL!!!

Can’t be mad at M.I.A., if you’re gonna have a “baby daddy”…Bronfman Jr., is the way to go!!!

    Sistas…TAKE NOTE!!!
