Are You a Twitter Addict?
British singer Estelle attended the launch party for Belvedere Pop-Up Shop over in London yesterday. Estelle has been traveling back and forth between the U.S. and London for the past several days. We know this because she told us so yesterday on her Twitter page. We also know exactly what time the wheels on her jet lifted up off the ground because she told us that too. In fact, it seems there is hardly anything that Twitter addicts won’t reveal about themselves on the social networking site.
You can find Estelle, and her fellow Twitter addict Solange Knowles, Twittering away at all hours of the day and night yapping about what they ate, drank or whether it’s raining outside their window. There is a fine line between addictive personalities like Estelle and Solange — and narcissists who think their lives are so important that they have to fill us in on every microscopic detail of it.
The endless tweets of Twitter addicts contain zero calories and are, in fact very boring to the rest of us who are mining Twitter Land for actual information that we can use.
What Twitter addicts fail to realize is that the quality of their twits is more important as a whole than what they are doing every minute of their lives. Wouldn’t it be a sad world if all we did all day was sit and wait for an update from someone on Twitter who thinks the world revolves around them?

@spongebobfan Yea thats pretty much how it works. ive been on twitter for about 2 months now. i love it. i dont type every little thing that i do. like if i see something crazy on the web ill post it and me and my followers will talk about it. i tweet alot while watching primetime tv. me and one of my followers watch the same shows so its pretty fun. we were tweeting about american idol last night perdicting who was going home. some tweet are a little TMI but i dont complain
Twitter is for narcissist (damn, did i spell that right) lol. And what pathetic souls is following someone else, to the point where they want to know what they are doing every second of the day. And what even more pathetic soul would think people would want to know what they are doing every second of the day?
I’m down with facebook cause you can connect with people you haven’t seen in a while, and can keep in touch with those who live far away. Facebook has a purpose. I don’t know what the purpose of twitter is, other than for narcissistic people who want to seem more important than they actually are.
I love facebook. I am still trying to understand twitter.

I so agree with this topic. I always said it gives us too much insite to our celeb’s lives. & myspace has gotton so many criminals in trouble. And so many people not hired, fired, beat up and or raped, & lets not forget the break ups. Smh

I checked out Twitter once, and once only. I shut down my Facebook page because it was just too much going on up in there! Folks coming out of the woodwork and thangs.
I’m sitting in front of a computer 9+ hours a day at work, and an additional 20+ per week in class. My escape is here for jaw dropping updates and hilarious responses. My Twitter would look like dry toast day in and day out.
I do see the fun and benefit of Twitter for those who are more social though. It’s a cool concept, just not for ere’body.
I tried to tweet (why do they call it that instead of twit????) but I just couldn’t reveal ALL THAT. I’m like so what? Maybe you have to really like people to be a Tweeter. Not feeling it at ALL and I wish it would just die.

I have a FB and I love it. It’s help me find some long lost friends. I don’t get and have never tried to get up on Twitter. Myspace has always seemed too kiddie for me.

If a person wanted to they could make a fake page and still lurke on facebook. I made that statement bc ppl who have facebook will ask you to look at something & I refuse to create an account just to see a picture. (Nor do I get everybody able to see your convo. On that or Twitter that mess isn’t private)
I personally don’t get the whole “find friends” concept either. Call me a bytch but if you aren’t in my life its for a reason. I tried it with myspace. Found some old peoples and once I found them or they found me I didn’t want to be bothered.

You could make a fake page, but you still couldnt’t lurk around unless your friendship request was confirmed. So you could do that all day, but still wouldn’t get anywhere. It’s almost impossible to lurk, unless you decide to impersonate someone they know…i dunno. But i know nobody could lurk on my page cause before i accept friendship, i ask questions. And if i don’t know you, it’s a straight delete, no questions necessary. I don’t know why strangers send me friend request.

I personally like facebook because of the reconnect thing. I don’t have like close personal relationships with everyone a find, but i had a lot of casual friends in h.s., and for me, its really cool me to keep with everyone. Twitter just seems absolutely pointless to me.

The people i “friended” are people i went to school with or worked with at some point. It’s not a matter of them needing to be in my life, but it’s cool to know they are well. It’s no biggie.
I grew up in a time when talking on the phone, your convo was only as private as far as far as the cord would go. Beepers was a must have, if someone tried to rob you for your cell phone, you didn’t waste $25.00 a min to call the cops. You could bust a nicca upside his head and knock him the phuck out with your cell phone.
Now I’m sitting here communicating with people all across the east coast on my phone.

You are so foul! You promised to never ever ever mention the fact that my mama breast fed me till the age of 15 not 19!!! It wasn’t a problem till that day she came up to school during lunch to feed me…Shoot I was hungry! The school refused to grant her an all access pass tho…They said special occasion fine, but not 5 days a week…So we slowly weened me off with a pacifier….Dang I hate you.heehee

So GREAT to see someone like me who is Anti these social networking sites. I understand the connecting with long lost friends, but most people go on these sites for self importance. LOOK AT MY LIFE! I don’t know if I’m just old fashioned or what? I look at the friendships on these sites as superficial no one takes the time anymore to really talk face to face and get to know each other over time, everything I want to know about you is on Facebook or Myspace, now Twitter. I have a friend that has sold himself out on Facebook and it’s really sad to see the change in him. I could never sell myself out on Facebook, Myspace or Twit.
I heart twitter I like it and I am not a narcissists.
I think its what you make of it like any other social networking site. I have had full-fledged insightful conversations on there with random people. I follow about 20 people. I don’t follow Solange because I really don’t care about her daily routine. Other people who post quotes or links to interesting stories on the net, I follow too..
Luda’s is pretty good also.

@Scorpio I have a gfriend the same way and we had words last week because I told her when we go to Essence Festival she would have to take separate pics for her facebook page w/o me cause I DONT want my pic on facebook this NUT tells me she already has pics of me on her page so im like WTH! twitting i think is no different from posting off the topics conversations inbetween the new post that sandra post up daily. we all follow the post and read what the next commenters post and respond if one did not agree or even agree. Sandra you should open a message board or twit acct. I am sure you will have a million followers. i am still learning how to work it, after awhile one will get board. the only real kool thing is that some of the celebrities will comment back.

Not a sellout per se as in selling out a person’s color, but I think posting all the details of your life on the internet is selling a part of yourself. I remember when the owners of Facebook had to change their rules because of something about them owning the images that you post even after you cancel your account. I just kept thinking someone has my image and they own it for eternity. It didn’t sit well with me to know that. When I say “change” a person I’ve noticed that people would rather sit online for hours a day rather than enjoy themselves in the real world. It may sound simple, and it may just be my experience with the people I know, but I’ve notice my once solid friendships built over years are now less meaningful. And cyber friendships are now more perferred. My friend went on vacation and throughout the vacation there was this constant need to run to the computer and update the pictures taken. If it wasn’t that there was the constant messaging on the blackberry. I found it rude to be somewhere with someone and constantly have them texting while in the middle of conversation, or eating.

I thought I was the only one that thought that. I just know something negative is going to come from all this. I think viewing Sandrarose is different at least it makes you think about political, economical, and social issues. It not just mindless look at me and my friends out eating, now on vacation, now in the club..and so on and so on you get my drift.

I created a twitter acct in Feb I think and I posted 3 messages, all having to do with how wack twitter was. Last time i updated was March and I’m about to close that nonsense down. I love facebook though

i think that most people dont get the micro blogging concept and just run to twitter with no understanding of the purpose or what to do with an account. you can kinda treat your page 3 ways basically. you can follow people or news as its the equivalent to reading a blog. or you can post your own topics or things you find interesting or u can post about your own life. lastly u can kinda do a mix of both. when i initially made a page like 3 years ago on twitter it was to keep up engadget as they tweeted from the apple press conference to originally announce the iphone. twitter was small then and it was so many tweets that the server kept crashing and crashing. at that point it was more for tech people like myself then i slowly watched it evolve as more and more people got on it. now that twitter is hot people join just cause they hear about it but have no idea as the concept of it which is cool but i dont think a lot of those people will get it without it being explained to them. and as with most social sites its just not for everybody
