Some of you will remember that post I did on Bow Wow’s close friend Bart Borders who was locked up in a federal pen last year on undisclosed charges.

Well, Bart was released in November to the same halfway house that T.I. will report to later tonight, the Dismas Charities West facility within walking distance of the Fulton County Airport, aka Charlie Brown airport.

I spoke with Bart by phone today and he had a lot to say about the halfway house that T.I. will call home for at least the next 2 months (T.I. has a March 2010 release date).

Bart, who is out on work pass until 10:30 p.m. on weeknights and 11:30 p.m. on weekends, said the facility holds about 120 male inmates and 20 females — yes, females! “But they have to stay on their side,” said Bart. “The only time we get to interact with (the females) is around meal time.”

He said the halfway house has two TV rooms and two living rooms, and the food there isn’t worth writing home about. “The food ain’t worth nothing. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,” he said. “But T.I. has his own money, he can order out.”

Bart, who manages rapper T. Waters, a So So Def artist, said T.I. probably won’t be able to leave on work release until after the New Year. But even then, he’s not allowed to work for himself or for his family. So he can’t work for Grand Hustle or any company he owns.

“If I see him when I get there I’ll tell him wherever he work at to make as least money as possible, because they getting 25% of his gross.”

All they really want is their money there,” said Bart. “They’re real unprofessional over there. You can’t let all black people run anything. If [the staff] ain’t gay, they’re old women – there’s nothing in between.”

Bart spoke kindly about his friend, rapper Bow Wow, who took good care of Bart’s two-year-old daughter and his family while he was locked up out of state.

You hear horror stories about rappers and other celebs (like Sean Combs) who leave their friends in the dust once they’re locked up. But, according to Bart, Bow Wow was always there for him.

“He just got back from Africa and he’s coming [to visit] for Christmas,” said Bart.

Bow Wow visits Bart regularly at the halfway house and even tried to visit him at the prison but was barred from visiting for security purposes. “He put a decent amount of money on my books. He came to the Atlanta jail to see me by himself — no security. He paid all my bills, my rent, made sure my daughter was alright.”

Bart said he taught Bow Wow — who grew up in suburban Columbus, Ohio — everything he needed to know about surviving the streets. “I had him in the middle of the hood, him and JadaKiss. He had on all his jewelry. Don’t nobody come through there like that besides Jada and them ’cause that’s their hood.”

On the other hand, So So Def CEO Jermaine Dupri has not visited Bart in prison or the halfway house (JD also hasn’t visited his artist Da Brat who is in a Georgia prison on assault charges).

Still, Bart wouldn’t say anything foul about JD (I tried to get him to throw JD under the bus but he refused). “He’s a good person. He did more than enough,” said Bart.

When asked if he would attend the upcoming Hot 107.9 Jingle Bash, Bart laughed and reminded me of his curfew at 11:30 p.m. on weekends.

Bart says he is scheduled to be released from the halfway house on March 9th — the same day as Bow Wow’s birthday. He’s planning a big bash of his own.
