Once again, Barack Obama trots a poor, disadvantaged child before the media and exploits the child for his own selfish means.
As Obama signed the new health care bill into law, 11-year-old Marcellas Owens looked on. Marcellas’s mother — a crackhead — died of pulmonary congestion (fluid in the lungs) at age 27.
According to the White House, Marcellas’s mother died because she lacked health care. I call BS on that. There is no public hospital in this country that accepts government funding that will turn away a patient based on his or her ability to pay. Crackheads are notoriously difficult to treat because they are non-compliant with their medications.
As a registered nurse, I have treated homeless people brought in off the streets! Go down to Grady hospital and ask any of the patients in the emergency room if they have insurance and I guarantee you that 85% of them will say they do not.
Yet those patients will be seen by doctors and treated like every other patient regardless of their inability to pay. Once again, Obama and the Democrats have used scare tactics and outright lies to push their socialist agenda on the American public.
This health care bill is not about saving lives or providing health care to all. It’s simply about Barack Obama’s legacy as the first president to get a bill passed. Sadly, this bill, in its current form, will do nothing to improve health care. In fact, it will make it that much harder for you to get the quality health care you need when the doctor and nursing shortages worsen.
Expect even longer waits in doctor’s offices — that’s if you can get a doctor’s appointment. And in 2014, when the insurance mandate kicks in, expect to pay excessively high premiums. It’s almost a guarantee that most of you won’t be able to afford the premiums even with the government subsidies.
If you can’t afford to pay an extra bill now, how will you be able to afford it in 2014?
There’s a funny thing about narcissists: no matter how much success they achieve in life they are never satisfied. So this is an empty victory for Obama, who after signing the health care bill into law, probably went outside for a quick smoke break.
Umm…no! If you go into Grady and have insurance, you will most def be treated differently than the homeless people in there.
Damn Sandra, was she really a crack head though???
Sheesh…
SideNote: I was in a car accident in July of 09. I was treated like GOLD during my stay in the hospital. I had minor injuries, but a big gash on my right eye that needed stitches and was hooked up to a morphine drip to control the pain. (I HAD CAR & HEALTH INSURANCE)
Fast forward to about a month agom my bro was in a car accident.. He was treated like S.H.I.T. in the hospital. Had FAR WORSE injuries then I had.. And they always were late with his meds and tried to give him Tylenol 4. Mind you he had a compound fracture (thats when the bone breaks through the skin) on his ankle. (HE HAD NO HEALTH INSURANCE & ONLY PIP CAR INSURANCE)
That’s like going into a restaurant, if you look nice, clean and everything, you’re more than likely going to be treated fine. But if you go in there and you stank and look nasty, then you’re not going to be treated the same…Why?? Because a clean person looks like they have the ability to pay, a nasty person doesn’t look like they have the ability to pay…Of course the clean person is going to get better treatment.

That’s at any hospital… When you have an insurance card in your hand those dam nurses are talking about they soooo sorry you not feeling well…hope you get better,,, have a nice day.. etc etc.. etc, but when you don’t they care less!
@ ms.truth I
Sandra you get the gas face for this post.
LET IT GO! The bill passed. Barack Obama is still going to be the president, no amount of posts will change that. This is foolishness. Why weren’t you raising alarm when the prescription bill passed under Bush, that was an overly expensive bill that many said wouldn’t work. Please drink a cup of tea and deal with the fact that Barack Obama somehow got this bill passed, no bill is perfect… fact is some people will IN FACT benefit from this bill, just like most other bills passed, some folks benefit, others don’t.
As far as treatment at Grady, you will notice that many people who end up there go there at the last minute and if they had proper affordable preventive care, they wouldn’t end up at Grady with such dire and even more expensive health situations.
Kids are off limits. That was still his mama, crackhead or not. Not cool Sandra.

you are right…I was in a car accident at the beginning of the year, and the paramedics gave me a choice of what hospital I wanted to go to after they found out I had good insurance, of course I didn’t choose Grady, I chose Piedmont…but I seriously doubt that they would give a homeless person a choice of what hospital they wanted to go to, they just take them to Grady.

@Ms.Quetta & mstruth!
Ain’t that the damn truth! Even at the doctor’s office. Ever since I got laid off and stop being covered by insurance, these people practically ask you to pay before you get seen. Thankfully I’m in good health and able to negotiate and cover my basic medical expenses, but you are treated like a pariah. i’m sure if they could run a credit check on me prior to setting an appointment for me, they would.
I almost want to move back to Massachusetts, so I could get a program like MassHealth and be covered as much as possible.
Didnt know you were able to see the future. How about waiting until 2014 and then seeing the benefits or pitfalls then when the bill is fully implicated?
Sandra,
This healthcare policy (among many other things) really strikes a nerve with you. Most people get into healthcare because they have a caring spirit and want to advocate on behalf of others. You’re no longer a practicing clinician. Why is that? Why did you switch careers?
SANDRA ARE YOU A narcissists???
thank you OBAMA…i wish we had this bill 5 years ago.
now childred/young adults are covered under thier parents until 26…
i am now 27 years old but when i was 22 i became ill and was no longer under my parents insurance and my job did not provide any. i racked up 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS in bills.
THIS MONTH…5 years later..i am just paying of my debt…but my credit is screwed. ALL MEDICAL BILLS..
thank you my president for looking out for our future.
well, the healthcare bill definitely helps people like myself with pre-existing conditions. being a cancer survivor, i know all too well how insurance companies try to link any doctor’s visit to my pre-existing condition and don’t want to pay.
Dang 1st Rush attacks the kid and his dead mother and now Sandra how dreadful
Sandra what is your source that confirms/states his mother was a crackhead? Haven’t even heard Beck/rush say that and I have a feeling they wld have been all over that fact if true
I haven’t read anywhere where this little boy’s mother was a crackhead. I mean, Sandra, you threw that in there like we are supposed to be like “well, now that you made that clear, she deserved to die.”
What’s shameful is how Beck and O’Reilly attacked this little boy saying stuff like “she would have died anyway.” Grown folks verbally attacking kids is what is sad in this.
I refuse to belive that ALL Obama wants to do is go down in history as the president who revamped healthcare. After all the hate and evil that has been spewed during all of this, it wouldn’t be worth it all.
Excuse me – they’re not racists or homophobs – those that yelled out n*gg*r and f*gg*ot – they are just “passionate.”
Give me an f n break and GET OVER it!
I am glad the bill was passed, I need affordable healthcare. This means that I can pay a reasonable amount for insurance, instead of the self-employed amount of $424/month.
Plus, seniors on medicare won’t have to choose between which medicine to forego due to costs.
<——- Signed. Sealed. Delivered!
everything is not going to be perfect with the healthcare bill…or any bills, but it is a start. i already have good insurance and still have to wait a long time for appointments unless it’s an emergency.
i feel bad when i see people in need of care and can’t get it. having to choose between medications and food/utilities.
as for going to the hospital w/o insurance and being treated the same – that’s not true everywhere. if you are picked up by ambulance and have none you are taken to one hospital even if you are closer to another (w/the exception of if it’s a life threatening emergency, then of course they go to the closest)
It’s not an empty victory, Sandra. According to Biden, it’s a big Fuc*ing deal!
there are a lot of loopholes in this bill, which I didn’t realize until now and I’m 1/2 way in the know with politics. So imagine the people that DON’T HAVE A CLUE!
EVERYBODY will have to pay for their own healthcare – EVERYBODY! Albeit the rates are based on a sliding scale, your ass will be penalized if you don’t pay for some kind of coverage. But what do you do if you don’t have any $$? Umm Hmmm. And granted, those that may have pre-existing conditions may be eligible for healthcare, if your premiums are so high, you still won’t be able to afford it – then what? Ummm hmmm
Still, I am glad that those who now have an option can take advantage of it. There was a familly on TV last night that said THEY CAN AFFORD private insurance, they just could not find a carrier that would take her child on.
Excuse me if I’m speaking apples and oranges, but can someone break down for me the difference in mandating everyone to have health insurance versus mandating everyone to have CAR insurance, home owners insurance…??? Maybe I just haven’t really paid attention to this whole healthcare thing, but I like the fact that everyone will be required to have health insurance because then they can’t complain about being turned away at a hospital or when they need medical services….It is MANDATORY for you to have CAR INSURANCE in order to DRIVE. It should be MANDATORY for you to have HEALTH insurance if you want to receive adequate healthcare. You HAVE to have HOMEOWNERS insurance in order to own your home…
So, if I’m talking apples and oranges, then forgive me…but if it all is basicall the same, then WTF IS EVERYONE UP IN ARMS ABOUT?
Wow Sandra. How disrespectful can you be. Calling someone’s deceased mother a crack head? You got to be kidding me.
Bottomline…they have be trying for healthcare reform for more than 100 years. What is so wrong with trying to make sure everyone can live a healthy life? I mean seriously…what happened to wanting to help others and make this world a better place. There is too much hatred in this world. Do better.
I have been on both ends of this. When I had my 12 year old I was treated like shiat, cuz I had no insurance. They had me in a room w/ a lady who just lost her new born baby. Here I am w/ a healthy new born and she is right next to me mourning the loss of hers. That was very insensitive on the part of the hospital. Their overall care was appalling toward me.
Fast forward to when I had my now almost 3 year old, I had insurance and I was treated like gold. Private room, a lady came in and taught me how to breast feed and care for my son. I was not forced with paying for the tv/phone to be turned on right away. My pain meds where there right on time.
It was a very big difference…
I am glad the bill passed !!!!
Sandra has a point. Not all of us are like that. I’m a damn good nurse who treats all my patients equally. Truth be told most nurses are lazy and only there for a check. At the end of the day, it is a business. I do have the supervisors who encourage us to jump for certain patients, but I just side eye they azz & keep trucking.
I am a board certified physician and this healthcare bill is good thing overall. Does it have some kinks? Absolutely. Are there some things that needs to be worked on? Yes. Will everyone be happy with this bill? Obviously not and they will not be happy as the bill is revised.
Also ALMOST everyone willbe required to be insured or pay the fine which will not happen until 2014. There are expemtions for people with the inability to pay.
The medicaid eligibity income will increase, allowing more families to be covered under medicaid. Alot of mothers work, but can’t afford the insurance offered by their employer but make to much to qualify for medicaid, this will address that population of individuals.
Senior citizens will have better RX coverage, this will be very beneficial to them, they will able to purchase their meds and become more compliant patients
Companies get a tax credit for offering health insurance and people who are self employed will be able to get more affordable rates.
There is a lot to this HCB, I would encourage people to read and understand this for themselves.
Sandra, I am so glad u got out of medicine cuz obviously u have NO COMPASSION to call her a “crackhead” cuz u heard SHISH from Limbag and the rest of ur rite wing sorry azz talkshow ppl is ri-damn-diculous. get da fukk over it, it’s passed and there is nothin u and da rest of dem sorry azz greedy mofo’s can do. Oh wait didn’t Limbag say he was leavin, GET DA FUKK ON!!!!
I feel if ppl would take better care of their health in the beginning then we wouldn’t be in this predicament where now your only forty or fifty years old and dependant on meds. I tend not to feel bad for those who are on alot of meds at a young age because most likely they knew they had to make lifestyle changes long ago but chose to ignore it. Who fault is that? When ppl will realize the drugs they are taking are the very ones that are keeping them sick and dependant on the drugs which is a very lucrative and huge business. Key word is BUSINESS!!!!!!
I think if the gov’t cared about the health of Americans they should start at the basics and stop feeding us these frankestine foods (i.e high frutose corn syrup, apples that don’t rot, chemically fed chickens etc), start putting more emphasis on supplements and how to cure yourself, stop GIVING us these cancers and dieases in the first place and provide subsidies to gym memberships. These few things will end up costing way less and better healthy Americans without having to strip our freedoms of this bs healthcare bill. People stop sipping the kool-aid!
Sandra – typically I just lurk around your board and post comments every now and then, but you calling a CHILD’S dead mother a “crackhead” is beyond low.
I lost my mother at age 13 to cirrhosis and was completely devastated. She had what they called NASH – non alcoholic steatohepatitis, but when people saw on her death certificate “cirrhosis”, they assumed she was an alcoholic and called her that to my face.
I use your blog as a source of entertainment (mainly from the commenters who seem to have more sense than you), but that is shameful.
I co-sign with Luvly… I’m so glad you’re not in medicine because your compassion sucks. :mad1:
Granted that a person with health insurance has more options…but that doesn’t automatically get you quality healthcare.
A primary physician once told me never go to the ER unless you are taking your last breath because they treat everyone like shyt. for most of my life I’ve had great health insurance, and I can tell you numerous times in ER and at a doctor’s office when I had to ask if there was a problem with my coverage because of they way I was treated.
I had great health insurance when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer. But she would be dead if we had stayed with the first oncologist. She might as well been diagnosed with a cold for all he cared.
So if anyone thinks they will automatically be treated like royalty because you have insurance … think again.
And I all I hear from you Sandra is WOMP WOMP WOMP. If that is true how do people die in the hospital or people get sent to other hospital because they dont have insurance. My cousin died when she was 28 because she could not get probably insured because she had a pre existing condition. She left behind four kids because of those MF’ers so i can give a damn about paying for others insurance. So THANK GOD FOR THIS HEALTH BILL.
I thought a hospital was only required to stabalize a non-insured patient. Have I been misinformed? There is a big difference between treating the immediate threat and giving full care of an injury.
I’m starting to think that the only people that 100% oppose this bill are either about to lose money or have been brainwashed by the negative media. Sure this isn’t the BEST fix in all the land, but it does do a lot of good.
The worst thing they can do right now is to do nothing so any change is moving in the right direction.
You gotta have car and home insurance. Now you gotta have health insurance so maybe my taxes can go down for not having to pay for all the people who don’t have it that come to the hospital where I work everyday!
Bravo Mr. President! Yes We Can!
Sandra, please tell all the Republicans who you believe love you so much to put Sarah Palin up against Obama in 2012. The entertainment alone would be priceless and MY president can sail on to the 2nd term…PRETTY PLEASE!
i wish Sandra would go back to England since us Americans are so f’ed up!!
Sandra loves those Repub talking points. Have some fuckin’ compassion. I hate to speak ill of children or the deceased. I am more sickened by this country’s treatment of those who are less than able than anything else. I’m fawkin done.
classy
I agree with the person who brought up the mandated car insurance. Seriously, if I got pulled over for a TOTALLY DIFFERENT REASON, and I had no proof of car insurance, those folks would ticket me. What’s the difference Sandra? If someone could honestly answer that and sound logical, then I might jump on your team.
@nevesnanna, awesome point
Um crackhead? -She died three years ago of pulmonary hypertension, largely untreated because she lost her health insurance when she lost her job as an assistant manager at a Jack in the Box restaurant in Seattle.
come on..
i lost my mother to cancer 2 years ago, and as a grown woman i STILL cannot take the pain, for these people to jump on this lil boy like this is completely insane.
OMG ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh and a side note.. I will be able to keep my child as a dependant on my health insurance until the age of 27! I love that seeing he is turning 19 this year.. and my job had already sent me a letter saying he would be dropped after this year. That law takes effect immediately! Thank you Obama!!

I SO AGREE…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HAIL IS THE BIG DAMN DIFFERENCE? SANDRA? AFRICAN-AZZ UH..DUDE? ANYONE? ANYONE? HELLOOOOOOOOOO…Cause if they block this ish, they need to block Auto and Home…They want you to have those to protect the banks, and the other person…so why not the same for health…
Are you people sane? The obvious major difference between auto insurance and home insurance is…….uh…..of you don’t have a car or a home then YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY!!!!!!! MY GOD!!!!!! He’s making EVERYONE pay regardless if you need it or not. Not everyine has a home and don’t have to pay home insurance. I have a condo and pay regular ole renter insuarnce for 10 dollars and month and not everyone has a car like some of my family members who stay near bus stops or downtown chicago. Most white folks on northside of Chicago take public transportation more than blacks do so that means they don’t have to worry about car ins. So whoever brought up this sorry refuted argument need to sit and spin on that!
BTW there is still according to statistics alot of people who don’t have auto insurance so at least you can get away with driving without insurance but you won’t be able to get away with health insurance which btw will have premiums through the freakin roof! Just as some people have to choose whether or not to get some food or medicine imagine having to choose between a house note and just plain health ins premium.
