California Jury Acquits Shooter in Rapper Dolla’s Death

A California jury today acquitted an Atlanta man in the shooting death of rising Atlanta rapper Dolla at a LA mall one year ago Tuesday.

Jurors on Friday rejected prosecutors’ contentions that the killing of Dolla, whose real name was Roderick Anthony Burton II, was a callous act of apparent revenge.

Burton and his accused shooter, Aubrey Louis Berry, had been involved in a fight at an Atlanta club less than two weeks before the shooting last May.

Berry hugged his attorney after the verdict was read while Burton’s family sobbed.

Berry’s attorney had contended the shooting was an act of self-defense, emphasizing that Burton glorified a violent gangster lifestyle in his rap lyrics and online videos.

That’s sad. He was shot in the head. That doesn’t sound like self-defense to me. Hopefully, this family can find some kind of closure.

Murder is murder, he should serve some type of time involuntary manslaughter or accidental death or something. All this does next time a rapper gets killed the defense is going to be he rapped about being a gangster, knowing full well half of rappers aren’t gangsters.

This little snippet gives us no clue about the details of the case. The defense had to present some proof that it was self defense other than they had a fight a week before the shooting. So if it was self defense then thank God he was acquitted.

Our wonderful judicial system at work. I would really like to know the additional evidence that was used to determine his sentence being overturned. I don’t see how just because he was a gangster rapper and “glorified” that lifestyle means that shooting him in the head is self defense. Sad!!!!

OK, there was only so much I could get from the stories I read to fill in the gaps. The men ran into each other at this Hollywood mall by chance supposedly despite the fact that neither one of them lives in Cali. The rapper supposedly told the defendent he was going to die that day and since the guy was strapped he bust a cap in his azz. It couldn’t have helped that Dolla was a gangsta rapper and the defendent was a college educated marketing rep who was actually at the mall for a meeting. I’d like to know how they wound up in the same place at the same time on the other side of the country.

If traveling all the way to California with a weapon, finding the location of an individual, then shooting them in the head isnt intent to kill. I dont know what is!
