1 Inch of Snow Paralyzes Atlanta

This morning, Atlantans awakened to find the city blanketed with snow. After turning on the news and hearing that the city was virtually immobilized, I grabbed my tape measure and stepped out onto my balcony.

I measured a total of 1-inch of snowfall that had accumulated during the night.

Folks from up North laugh at 1 inch of snow. But that 1 inch has shut the city of Atlanta down. 2,000 flights have been canceled in and out of Atlanta Hartsfield Airport — the busiest airport in the nation.

City government and schools are closed. Highways are closed. Buses and trains are standing still. Banks and grocery stores are closed. If you need gas in your car to get to work: forget it.

Fortunately, that 1 inch of snow didn’t bring down any power lines in my neck of the woods. Thank God for small miracles, I guess.

I’m so shame for the south. I’m from the Chicagoland area and I remember days of having snow up to your damn waist and you STILL had to take your a$$ to school. We had to walk in someone else’s footprints if you wanted to get to school without your pants being soaking wet and snow inside your damn shoes that had your feet frozen and socks wet when it melted for 4 hours in class before they thawed out.

There were times when we couldn’t open the screen door because the snow was too heavy to push it open, so we were STUCK in the house and these p*ssy’s shut cities down now for a teaspoon of snow?

I was talking to a friend in ATL last night and he was like, “I hope it snows so we won’t have to go to work.” WTF? You’re in the ARMY and you get a snow day?

Same thing here in Houston, it gets “chilly” and the entire city shuts down because there are 200 accidents because the ground is “slick”… man the eff up!

You know you’re funny as hell SR!!! As you know I’m from Houston, TX. Lately, for about the past 2 years or so, we’ve been getting a little snow that miraculously lasts when it hits the ground (normally it hits the ground here and melts). Anyway, when we get a little snow EVERYTHING closes down. It’s laughable b/c in Philly or DC that ish wouldn’t ride but you know we aren’t use to that mess in the south and don’t know how to act. Hahaha!

It was a trip that I left Houston and it was 76 and got to Chicago and it was 26.

Then I came back home and had on thermal underwear, a turtleneck underneath a sweater and a winter coat and arrived back in Houston and it was 75 degrees – needless to say everyone thought I was crazy in Walmart – cause you know crazy people get colder than a mf for some reason. When I first moved to Houston from Ohio I use to laugh at people and how they acted when it snowed here. You would swear it is a blizzard.

Sad to say, that I have been here for 20 yrs and now I am one of those people that act like an inch of snow is a blizzard. I went home during winter and seen all the people sliding all over the highway. I got on a plane the next day to go back home. It scared me to drive in the icey road

Actually, it was 87.3 miles in a blizzard.

And we only had one pair of boots to share so we would rotate them one at a time and everyone else would have to hop on one foot until it was their turn.

The issue is not really about how much snow falls…it’s actually so cold here that alot of the snow has turned to ice. Not to mention there’s freezing rain and sleet outside. Atlanta is not equipped to handle ANY snow really….I think we only have like 10 salt trucks or something. It is best to shut down instead of having thousands of accidents. The north is used to weather like this so they are prepared for it. That’s the big difference.

That being said…..SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!!

Im in DC but they showed ATL on the news this morning and it looked like more than an inch. Car accidents and all. Again this is just what I saw on the news. I just hope the snow don’t come up here

LOL @ATL being shutdown over 1″ of snow. Here in the Midwest 1″ isn’t even considered a dusting! When Detroit gets 10″ we just get up early, shovel the snow, and begin the slow commute.

I’m from Cleve,Oh and find it hilarious that this city of Atlanta is shut down like this lol. I could barely find milk and bread last night at the grocery store too! Everyone was in panic mode. I saw neighbors outside late at night having a fireworks show because it snowed,wth! My kids been out this morning making snow angels/snow balls, they should have had enough of that from back home lol. I want to go to the mall so bad!

You know it’s more than 1″ of snow out there. Don’t forget there was sleet first, then snow. All the accidents on the highway, We “Atliens” will never be used to this…so shut our city down! That’s why they add in extra days to the school calendar for emergencies such as this.

True: The City has shut down, but, not a lot of show can accumulate on a damned apartment balcony rail–what is it, one inch wide? There’s a physics lesson there somewhere.

I’ve got 4+ on my deck in Decatur. It’s a lot of snow, especially for a city that doesn’t adequately plan for it–despite it happening every year!

I am in CT and there is another snow storm heading this way tonight. This is the third snow storm in a 2-3 week time period and everything is shut down in ATL over 1 inches??? That’s just plain old rediculous! They didn’t let us out of work on Friday until we couldn’t see outside the windows anymore! I wish they would shut down everything over 1 inch here, but we will be shut down tomorrow on my birthday woo hoo!
