Troubled R&B singer R.Kelly is facing foreclosure on his $2.7 million Chicago mansion, according to Access Atlanta.
A Crain’s Chicago Business publication reports that JPMorgan Chase Bank filed the foreclosure lawsuit last month in Cook County Circuit Court. The complaint states that Kelly hasn’t made monthly mortgage payments since June of last year.
Crain’s reports the Olympia Field home’s appraised value fell 26 percent in a year, to $3.8 million in 2010. The original 1999 loan was for $3.5 million.
Kelly’s spokesman Allan Mayer declined to comment on the foreclosure. But he told the Associated Press that Kelly isn’t having any financial problems.
This might be one of those situations when a rich person walks away from properties that are worth much less than what they owe on it.

Whoever said “foreclosure is the new bankruptcy” is sooo right. And for some reason- many banks will NOT renegotiate your loan while your payments are current. Once you stop paying, they get desperate and think that they’re about to lose ALL the money on the house totally and then they want to renegotiate. While my mom was making pymts on her house she got rid of, they would not renegotiate her loan and had her in forecosure after missing 2 payments. After she stopped making them payments and moved (they musta found out eventually that she bought a new house somewhere else), they renegotiated that mortgage 3 times, from $2600/month down to $1500 without her even asking and it took them 9 months to send her into foreclosure.
Sometimes, you just gotta join em if you can’t beat em with these scheming azz banks.
