Man Dies After Eating Cocaine Hidden in Brother’s Buttocks

A South Carolina man with a lengthy criminal record asked his younger brother to make the ultimate sacrifice for him. An hour later his brother was dead.

Deangelo Rashard Mitchell, 23, of North Charleston, SC, was handcuffed with his brother, Wayne Joshua Mitchell, 20, in the back seat of a patrol car on Nov. 30. The two men had been pulled over in their truck for driving with one headlight out. Officers placed the brothers in the back seat while they searched the truck.

Facing life in prison if convicted on the drug charge, Deangelo, who had hidden an ounce of crack cocaine in his buttocks, asked Wayne to swallow the drugs.

The patrol car’s video camera caught the verbal exchange between the brothers.

“One of us gotta do it, you the only one that don’t have any strikes. You my little brother… I’m gonna get life,” Deangelo pleaded. “You gonna eat it, you gonna chew it,” said Deangelo, pictured above right. “I can get you out. I can’t afford another strike.”

The older brother retrieved the crack rocks from where he’d hidden them in his buttocks and dropped the drugs on the seat between them.

Wayne complied with his brother’s request and ate the rock cocaine off the seat. Moments later, Wayne began having difficulty breathing and went into convulsions. Deangelo told police that Wayne swallowed crack cocaine after police spotted cocaine residue on the seat.

The onset of the lethal overdose was immediate. Wayne suffered a cardiac arrest and began bleeding from his mouth. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“It’s sickening,” said North Charleston police chief Jon Zumwalt. “I got upset when I saw the , I’m pretty shocked about it.

He added: “For me, an older brother is supposed to love his little brother, have his back and take good care of him. That’s not what was happening in this car.”

Deangelo was charged with trafficking drugs and he posted bond on December 1.

Toxicology results confirmed that Wayne died as a direct result of ingesting the alkaloid form of powder cocaine.

Police decided to upgrade the drug charge to murder, and are now looking for Deangelo to arrest him.

Wow..first of all what type of negro bish asks his younger brother to take such a risk? Smh..the older brother got caught, it was his drugs, he should’ve took responsibility and swallowed it. Smdh…I feel sorry for the parents…they’ve basically lost both their children.

And I’m amazed at the younger brother’s loyalty..in the video the younger brother told the oldest he loved him…smh…just sad as heyul. Smh.

This is sooooooooo darn sad. I feel sorry:

    1) For the parents…they’ve lost 2 sons.
    2) For the older brother…(unwittingly) he effectively talked his lil bro into committing suicide.
    3) For any kids either of them have. Can you imagine if your uncle/cousins father..killed your dad? Will those kids ever get along?
    4) For the young ladies that were involved with these two. Especially the g/f or wife or baby’s mama..of the man that died.

Bless his soul, he was only trying to help out his brother whom he clearly loved. May he RIP.

Yea…so because they had dreads that made them automatically guilty of something? I also know several parents who worked their arses off and did all they could to raise their children right..and still for whatever reason they became a part of the street life. How easy to blame the parents when these were two adults making their own decisions. :coffee:

Btw..you can say that you do not want your vehicle searched, but trust and believe that’ll cause more problems. To the police it makes you look suspicious, hence they will call back up, bring out drug sniffing dogs, etc..and if you are carrying drugs you will still get caught up.

    RIP to the deceased brother.

I am on the fence about @Birds comment about the locks. My 16 yo daughter’s father had dreads for almost a decade. He cut them for job reasons (he got laid off from the job he already HAD when he grew them). BUT he also stated that the surprise…was that he no longer got pulled over for DUMB ish anymore and a few other things as well. He said that his life became a helleva lot easier in a lot of aspects that he really hadn’t known EVER b/c when he started to grow his dreads he was 17. He thought he was getting treated a certain way b/c of his youth, not his appearance.

In Raleigh, a busted tail light will get you a ticket and then you are on your merry way. But when you fit a certain profile… sadly it lands you in the back of a police car while they search YOUR car. Its sad yes. It is wrong indeed. But it is the way of life here.

I think if you have multiple arrests, are carrying crack in your ass, and convince your younger brother to eat it, your parents’ skills need to be called into question. Hell, I’m willing to bet my next paycheque that poor parenting was the start of all of this drama.

Sadly, about 80% of the nonsense in our community is the result of poor parenting. If you don’t give your kids a strong foundation, they could end up in the back of a cop car eating crack out of each others ass. I can easily see the correlation on this one.

  27. 27
    ssweetheart85 says:

Lol @Southern and Daisy…at some point ppl have to learn and take responsibility for their own actions. I am saddened by the outcome of this…and apparently the younger brother was either naive or gullible to think he wouldn’t be killed or atleast injured in some way by ingesting those drugs. I’m quite sure his older brother did not expect this outcome, but he shouldn’t taken his responsibility for those being his drugs.
@KDub a lot of times yes, people do profile based off appearance, but that’s not to say ppl should be generalized, but we all know how I would say the majority of police in certain areas operate. Smh.

  28. 28
    AndThenIHitMyDougie says:

So where does common sense come into play here? I’m sure the older and younger brother knew of what happened to crack addicts when they OD from shooting it up…what EXACTLY did they think would happen when directly INGESTED?!

Like seriously……so neither brother thought: “swallowing this sh*t will probably cause an OD?” Neither one? SMH. Smart folks don’t deal crack…or drive around with busted tail lights.

RIP to the younger brother but common sense just needs to prevail sometimes. And brother or not…. I am NOT swallowing crack. You pay the cost to be the boss- dude woulda just had to take that long ride he signed up for. I’d visit him and put money on his books but I wouldn’t have swallowed a damned thing, boo.

    Nicola says:

    @ssweetheart85

I respectfully disagree. Stories like these two, are the end result of an “experiment” that began at birth. You can build a house on a poor foundation and with weak parts, and it may withhold the storm, but it still never is going to be the best house out there, and eventually all of those defects are going to come to light. People are no different. We can’t bring kids into this world ill equipped, raise them in lack, in unhealthy environments and expect them to turn out right.

I know there are great people out there who raised kids who did wrong. But when I see two siblings going astray, and making poor choices together, you have to wonder what went on in their home. What childhood traumas or neglect led to this. These two weren’t mastermind criminals. This isn’t genius gone wrong.

  34. 34
    brenden says:

IDK why I decided to visit SR tonight and I dnt knw why this story makes my skin crawl like it is, but it does…First off, I would have ate the crack for my brother as well. I can’t see the video, and I’m going to search the full story when I get home, but why were they handcuffed and placed in the squad car while their car was being searched? I’ll tell you why,,,So they can do and say incriminating things on camera! The cops are just as guilty as the brother, they were set up…I hate when Blk folks give up their basic civil rights just to appease officers. You don’t have to be unruly. You don’t have to yell and scream, but you do have rights. They want to search ur car, say no! Although after running the brothers bg check and seeing he had priors,,,Depending on the states laws that may have given them probable cause to conduct the search. IDK, but ish like this kills me…
In college and even before then my friends and I would get harrassed constantly by the lapd…Simply because we were young Black men…Having 2 lawyers in the family was very useful. I learned at a young age-You don’t argue, don’t get loud, don’t be submissive with all that yes sir no sir,,,If you weren’t doing nothing wrong, if your civil rights have been violated,,,You get those basturds where it hurts…IN THEIR POCKETS…Complain…File a written complaint…Regardless of the findings of the internal investigation, that complaint will stay on their record, and come up whenever they go up for review or promotion! Play the White mans game like they play it…
Now none of this may apply to these two men. Obviously dude was in the wrong…He had crack on him. But the fact that this all started with a busted head light. The fact that they were intentionally placed in the back of a squad car BEFORE the were placed under arrest with the hopes they would say stuff to incriminate themselves…Thats what’s upsetting me. That’s what led to this…Not defending criminals, but if I’m not under arrest,,,You will not handcuff me! You will not place me in the back of a filthy squad car where blood, fecal matter and who knows what else is….And you will not search my car without proper documents allowing you to do so!smh…Anyway, r.i.p. to this man…I can’t watch the vid on my phone, but from what I can tell…He was just looking out for his brother…Same thing I would have done not even thinking twice about the consequences :shrugs:

It was pointless and a dumb move!

Generally a traffic violation results in probable cause for officers to search your car b/c you’ve committed a violation against the law…the DA could be reaching with a murder charge but if their state has “depraved heart murder” that’s how the brother will be charged b/c he had a reckless disregrad for human life when he conjoled his brother to eat the crack for him but since it appears they’re both adults I doubt the charge would stick…either way a really sad situation and let’s face it if your’re a black man be it with locks or a fade, you’re automatically suspect

There are plenty of children who grow up in less desirable environments who have very little who rise to great heights! Their environment was the driving power to change their lives for themselves. You can raise children and given them everything they need and they still go down a path of their choosing. Strong foundation or weak foundation each has the potential to be a success story.

Now as for the older brother…he will NEVER sleep at night knowing he sacrificed his younger brother for himself. He sells crack and he know crack in rare form like this KILLS! I LOVE my brothers to death but would never have did that for any of them. You have many strikes but you STILL want to sell drugs and do illegal stuff. You NEED to sit in jail! My heart cries for this family….the mother…the brother who sacraficed his life…and this brother…who is going to live with this for the rest of his life. This burden will be heavier than any punishment the justice system will hand down. God Bless these lives and may one brother REST in PEACE.

Strange how a lot of you are giving advice on how to avoid having the cops search you or your vehicle. Here’s a thought, DON’T DEAL CRACK.
This way if the cops ended up searching your sh*t, they wouldn’t find contraband and you’d be on your merry way :)

You will not place me in the back of a filthy squad car where blood, fecal matter and who knows what else is….And you will not search my car without proper documents allowing you to do so!smh…Anyway, r.i.p. to this man…I can’t watch the vid on my phone, but from what I can tell…He was just looking out for his brother…Same thing I would have done not even thinking twice about the consequences ”

I have a question??? When in history have you ever heard of anyone that eats a controlled substance such as Cocaine survive? I would NEVER take an L like that for anyone, I am sorry the Older Brother was selfish and irresponsible. I blame Waka Flocka and Lil Boosie and most importantly the parents for not giving a good two Flucks about teaching these young misguided brothas a bit of good common sense. I mean damn they could have watched a television cop series or something to know not to swallow no ish like that

Neither one of these guys sounds very smart. If officers stop you for a traffic violation and ask to search the car just say no. I don’t know why so many street dudes have a problem with that concept. Furthermore, if you want to commit crimes in the Carolinas don’t wear unkempt locks. You fit the description of the perp in every crime that has ever been committed. I feel bad for the family that didn’t raise them properly, but my word. Get it together people.

    _________________________________________________________________________
Right! Blame the family “that didn’t raise them properly”. How in the world would you know they weren’t raised properly? Most parents (especially black mothers) do the very best they can and still the kids make stupid decisions. Just place the blame where it belongs…on the two young men that made the really stupid decision!!
    ________________________________________________________________________
:cosign: We parents always get blamed when our children make wrong decisions no matter how old they are. If we beat them its wrong; if we try to talk calmly its wrong so what the f***k do you do! :cuss:
