Students of body language had no trouble recognizing the first lady Michelle Obama’s closed body language during Monday night’s USA vs Brazil exhibition game in DC. Team USA (led by LeBron James) defeated the Brazilians. But Mr. Obama apparently struck out with his wife.
It took two “Kiss cam” tries for the president and Mrs. Obama to lock lips.
During the first “Kiss cam” try, Mrs. Obama coldly rejected her husband. The 2nd time around, they kissed but her arms were closed and it was clear that she was not receptive to his touch.
Notice that the president’s body language is wide open and very receptive to Mrs. Obama, while her body language is closed and cold.
Either Mrs Obama feelings towards her husband are ice cold or she is extremely shy (and we know that isn’t true). Closed body language means the individual is subconsciously uncomfortable with the person they are interacting with. This means she might not be rejecting him on purpose, it can be rejection on a purely subconscious level.
Last night was probably the most action Barack has seen from his wife. The bottom line is there’s no passion between those two. Please note that Mrs. Obama’s cold behavior could also indicate submissiveness (though that’s doubtful).
When you view the video after the break, watch Mrs. Obama’s body as her husband leans into her. She moves away from him and she closes her arms — a clear indication that she is uncomfortable — at least subconsciously.
