Hurricane Sandy Aftermath: NEW YORK UNDER WATER

President Obama declared New York a disaster area as Hurricane Sandy pounded the east coast of the United States with sheets of rain and high winds, leaving several people dead and millions without power.

Winds are still gusting at 45 mph in some areas of the East. 30 foot storm surges were reported as Sandy came ashore in the New York and New Jersey areas.

President Obama suspended his campaign efforts to concentrate on federal hurricane relief efforts. On Monday, Obama stood before the cameras and warned New Yorkers to evacuate or stay inside their homes. He said Hurricane Sandy would be “big and powerful” but he said the federal government was ready.

As with Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, a levee broke in Northern New Jersey on Monday, causing massive flooding. Heavy snow was reported in West Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina, leaving many homes without power and snow drifts up to the roofs of cars.

But New York suffered the most damage in the aftermath of the biggest ‘Superstorm’ to hit the east in 100 years. A Con Ed transformer exploded leaving 7 million customers without power. Millions of New York residents are in stuck in their homes in darkness, surrounded by up to 5 feet of standing water in some areas.

A building in the Chelsea, NY area was damaged when the facade crumbled to the ground leaving the front of the building exposed to wind and rain. No injuries were reported.

High winds snapped a crane atop a luxury Manhattan hi-rise that was under construction. The crane’s boom swayed precariously in the wind 75 stories above the street. The NYPD sealed off several blocks area around the hi-rise, but the boom never fell.

The power outage also wreaked havoc on one of the world’s biggest websites, The Huffingtonpost.com, which was knocked offline during the night. “We are working around the clock to get the site back to normal,” read a message posted on the site this morning.

Most definitely. This will either help him or hurt him…you know that somebody is going to critisize what he’s doing or how fast he moved to get to the aid of them etc, etc. Hopefully they will realize that this is not the time to campaign against the potus and they need to make efforts for the east coast. But that will be too much like right. :tea:

Not 2012..where’s my head :smack: …the movie when the teens were in new york for a high school debate and they were trapped in the library until the boy’s dad came and got him. The Statue of Liberty was under the frozen atlantic and everyone who evacuated in the united states went to mexico or farther south. the storms were like big huricanes but like an ice age… the name escapes me right now.

When I compare it to that particular movie, it’s because the water rushed into New York and all of the east coast in that movie like the picture shown above. I asked because that’s exactly like what had happened.

      ———-
Thats the thing you learn about evacuating for a hurricanes in Florida. Everything in a storm’s path might get destroyed. Its ultimately the evacuees decision on whether they want to go further. Its just the government’s duty to provide some kind of shelter. My workplace is a designated shelter in Miami-Dade County.

I heard about Toni’s shyt talking…she sounds REAL DUMB for trying to blame her for the demise of her career. She didn’t blame her for the bankruptcy, but she said that with Oprah reprimanding her like that the public looked at her differently…no bish, your frivolous spending and piss poor money management caused your career to be fukked…Toni makes my bowels move… #dumbbish

I was having this discussion with my guy friend over dinner the other day on how celebs end up broke. The problem starts with them running a credit tab at several places at once. Their name is enough most of the time for establishments to just run a tab and send the bill to their accountant. Since half the time they never see the reciept for their transactions or a member of their entourage signs off on it at the end of the night its easy for bills to run high…If I ever become a billionaire a card or cash must leave my hands for anything to be legit purchased. My family is gonna hate me because the way I see it the only people I owe a house to is my mother and my sister…Shoot my g-ma can move in with my mother, she’ll have an extra room to spare….

She didn’t exactly blame her per say !!! But from the interview I got that damn vibe !!! Beesh was saying Oprah was being mean to her  Oprah asked her about the bankruptcy, then she turned around and asked Toni is it true, you have gucci flatwear, in other words, you filing for backruptcy but you buying ish like that . I might have said my first statement wrong, but this recent interview that she did talking bout Oprah was out of damn line. Hell Oprah did her damn job. Truth hurts :tea:

BRIDGEPORT — A Florida flight attendant has been charged with raping a local 10-year-old boy 156 times.

Rafael Padilla-Cruz, 22, of Fort Lauderdale, surrendered to police here with his lawyer, Richard Meehan, after earlier being served with an extradition warrant in Florida. He was charged with 156 counts of first-degree sexual assault and 156 counts of risk of injury to a minor.
“He vehemently denies he engaged in any inappropriate conduct with anyone,” Meehan said Wednesday.

Padilla-Cruz was released after posting a $200,000 bond.
The boy, who is now 15, recently disclosed that Padilla-Cruz, a family acquaintance, raped him on an almost daily basis between 2007 and 2008 while he was living with the boy’s family here, according to the arrest warrant affidavit of Police Detective Jessi Pizarro.

The affidavit states that Padilla-Cruz warned the boy that something would happen to his mother if he complained about what he was doing.
The boy, who made the disclosure while in treatment for other issues, said the assaults ended when Padilla-Cruz left the city to attend flight attendant school in Florida.

Police said Padilla-Cruz is employed by Spirit Airlines.

My prayers go out to those who experienced the bad end of this storm. I live in the DMV area, Fort Washington, MD to be exact, and I was terrified that we would get hit pretty hard by Sandy. Everything around here is closed; they even shut down the Metrorail system. I have never experienced a natural disaster, heck that mini Earthquake we had last year damn near gave me a heart attack, and it lasted literally a minute. Fortunately for me my neck of the woods is fine, no power outage or major flooding, but according to news reports some areas in DC and VA, and even some parts of Maryland is dealing with power outrage and water damage. I don’t know everyone here but I sincerely pray that everyone who is a member of this blog stay safe, and if possible, stay inside until the storm is completely over.
