Chris Brown and Royalty

Troubled singer Chris Brown is trying his best to be a good father by overindulging his only child, Royalty. Brown, who grew up in a violent single-parent household, did not have a good foundation to learn good parenting skills because his own mother lacked good parenting skills.

Chris Brown and Royalty

Like most uninformed parents, Brown thinks spoiling his daughter with expensive gifts takes the place of good parenting.

But all it really does is create a narcissist who grows up expecting special attention from others. She will likely expect to get anything she wants -- and she will throw a fit if she doesn't get it.

Like most narcissists, Brown is very ative on social media, where he posts photos of himself, his toys, and now his daughter's toys.

Child experts say the best way to raise a narcissist is to overindulge or over value your children.

Excessive praise such as telling children they are cute, pretty or handsome is equally harmful because it gives the child a false sense of self.

"When narcissists don't get the special treatment they think they're entitled to, they become angry and aggressive; they lash out at others in an aggressive manner," Brad J. Bushman, PhD, professor of communication and psychology, Ohio State University, told Medscape Medical News.

"Convicted thieves, rapists, and murderers have some of the highest levels of narcissism," he said.

  • Wuts got Petty Davis Eyes..

I think he has new daddy syndrome. Most parents over do for their first child.. they overprotect, over indulge, some even over feed. But then they get Luvs... LOL... seriously. He just over doing it cuz he has the means to do so.. but it will cost her emotionally in the long run if he don't taper off or balance with real life morals and teaching aids like having chores, doing well in school, etc.

  • Sassy

Royalty is a cutie, I like that he is involved, I just don't like to see kids so heavily displayed on social media

Children are a direct reflection of their parents. Whatever you put into a child is what you're going to get out and children can only become healthy, whole, happy human beings when they are being raised by healthy, happy, whole human beings. Sex does not prepare one for parenthood and unfortunately it's all that's required that have one.

  • OpinionHated

Sandra's absolutely correct - spoiled kids grow up to be narcissistic ignorant unbearable adults.. and too many people think buying clothes is the same as parenting... good parenting is leading by example and putting your child's needs first... i.e. instead of running to the club every Friday sit your azz home and read a book with your baby - if you want to party all the tine you shouldn't have breed... as your babies grow you can reclaim your life, but not until then... baby got toy cars and no college fund...

  • Wuts got Petty Davis Eyes..

    SPEAKING OF BABY DADDIES!

I always tell my son how beautiful he is, I think its good to make them confident about themselves and encourage them, but my son will never be spoilt, as far as I'm concerned he will have everything he needs but not everything he wants, its important to teach your child to work for what they want......in my opinion

  • MotherOfDragons, GetOffMyENuts

It is a balancing act. You want to give your kids the best things you can but you need to instill a proper work ethic and value for things as well. DF and I do our best to teach our kids good morals and values while occasionally indulging and rewarding them. Sometimes he does too much and I have to hit him with a ? and vice versa. Like right now. Dragon13's final grades posted yesterday, she got a 4.0 again. I'm proud but I expect that from her so I'm more chill. He's so proud and impressed I KNOW he's going to go overboard with rewarding her (like with the golf cart). Hopefully we'll end up with well adjusted children and not a squad of narcissistic sociopaths. As for Chris...well he has his own demons he hasn't learned to control and is a new father with money to blow. He'll figure out a way to balance things out hopefully.

It is hard when you grew up poor or lacking. You forget how much you learned by NOT having those things and you just go OVERBOARD. And then his childhood was cut short by having too much. Unfortunately, there will be spoiled adults, narcs, and a mix of other strange people in this world.. just the way it is. What is the solution? How and where do people like this go for some real help?

  • HopeLynette’

Royalty's Father is a multi millionaire. Why not spoil his only acknowledged child? I love me some Chris Brown. He needs help, mentally. A good role model, mentor, or an older minister, whose earned his stripes. God bless him.

I'm guilty of this as well :( Sometimes we get so caught up with giving our kids the tangible things that we didnt have and neglect to teach them the intangible things that made us productive adults (i.e. responsibility, compassion, drive, self reliance, being goal orientated, etc). I think Sugar15 was switched at birth (really wonder where she came from sometimes) cause that lil girl is going to lose some teeth phucking with me. Mouth off da chain but she got it honest :(

  • WHITTYwithWORDS

  • Femme404

Money doesn't have anything to do with overindulgence. For instance if you grew up poor without food would you overfeed your child? Being healthy is the key no matter how much money have. Children need balance and example. Chris has neither so of course he thinks this type of behavior is ok.

  • imright

baby Royalty is everything she is not so of course shes hating.?

Only by seeing the pictures he posts it looks like he is spending time with her and it looks like he is trying to change. • sunni_daze

Well mine are narcissist. And I'm broke

"Excessive praise such as telling children they are cute, pretty or handsome is equally harmful because it gives the child a false sense of self" .------This is how kids get poor self esteem and seek it from others which in most cases is not good. It's okay to tell kids they are cute or whatever. Bet dude don't even have kids.

  • HopeLynette’

Money does have a lot to do with overindulgence. If there's no resources, no indulgences can be done. People need to look in the mirror.

Today I learned: Chris Brown (along with others) is both a sociopath and a narcissist and is raising one too. Dis too murch ????

  • Smartypants

I think he's probably a great dad! Obviously he spoils her rotten. I hope seeing the heavenly light in her casts the darkness following him out.
I say that not as a fan or someone who necessarily forgives his antics, but someone who has compassion.

  • Dollface

Chris is going to lose his sh*t about this post. Aunt Sandy, please stay in the house for a couple of months while he gets over this post.

  • Hugga Bunch

    Anyone ever date a narcissist?

    Whew lawd ?

  • Full Monty

Nah the first born children are usually spoiled. Remember children don't come with instructions. Let him spoil his little girl all he want too.

  • CaramelDrop

I think this on applies to some not most. My daughter goes to a overwhelming majority "sprite" school. The little sprite girls would tell my baby she couldn't be a princess because she is black. I gave her the whole "everybody is someone's princess" spill but what phucked me all the way up was when she got in the mirror and started pointing out - common black features nose, complexion, booty, etc., that she had a problem with. I wanted to go checking kids but I checked myself first. I have made a point since to reinforce her natural beauty and abilities.... I don't think it's anything wrong with motivating, encouraging and up lifting our girls - to a certain extent of course. There are studies claiming black women are the least desired... I don't think there is any problem "building our girls up" before the world tears them down

it depends on HOW you spoil your children. I definitely spoiled mine...with LOVE and WISDOM, and taught them to respect themselves. As parents, that's the best we can do. Anyone who dies not have children, will have to learn by doing...,not observing and snarking (that's for YOU sandra)

It's truth to it after reading this my niece came to mind, very pretty very spoiled. She acts like the world owes her everything and when she doesn't get it she is ready to fight and she is a good fighter but on any case it's good read thx SR

Not excessively. Do it in moderation. If the kid starts expecting you to tell them they are beautiful, you have lost the battle.

"and here I thought telling my kids they were smart and beautiful was a form of building self esteem.."
    ^^^^^^^^

You're not the only one. A lot of parents heap excessive praise on their kids without balancing it out. The best way to build self-esteem in children is to praise their behavior, not their looks. The only time you need to address their looks is if they ask you if they are handsome or pretty. At that time, you can reassure them -- but also provide balance by letting them know looks aren't everything.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Thank you for sharing. When I was a kid I thought the mother was the standard of beauty. I loved her brown skin and I hated when she put on makeup that covered her brown skin.My maternal grandmother was as light as Lena Horne. She was strict and stuck up and bourgeoise. I don't ever recall my mom talking excessively about beauty or who was cute or handsome, so I never judged people on looks. I based my opinion of a person on their behavior, not their looks. I never grew up thinking beauty was valued or some sort of goal to maintain. You teach your children self-esteem by praising their behavior, not their looks.
