A 6-month-old baby was shot in the chest during a drive-by shooting on Cleveland's east side Thursday. Police say the baby's mother was in a car with two other males when gunshots struck her car near East 145th Street and Spear Avenue. The infant died at a local hospital.

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James reacted angrily to the senseless shooting on Twitter.com Thursday.

James, 30, has a 1-year-old daughter and 2 boys at home.

From Newsnet5:

Police said the shooting happened near East 143rd Street and Kinsman Road when someone opened fire into a car.

The mother of the child was driving and also had two other males in the car with her, according to police. Officers said only the child was struck. She was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she died.

According to 911 calls obtained by newsnet5.com, a woman claimed, "someone was shooting at our car and they shot the baby."

SWAT members surrounded a home near East 145th Street and Spear Avenue, several blocks over, but there was no indication anyone was taken into custody.

Police said they do not have a shooter(s) description at this point in their investigation.

James posted an Instagram photo of his daughter, Zhuri, in front of his IMAX TV late Thursday. He captioned the image, "Guess lil mama like football just like poppa! #ZhuriPrincess #JamesGang"

    RIP to that beautiful baby

  • Milani

    My heart hurts...that poor baby.

  • Tammie Reed

So sad for this precious baby! I'm from Cleveland and was on the phone with my best friend and she said that there is some type of gang war going on there and the cops can't keep up with all the violence in the city! They said last month it was 40 murders in 30 days!

My hubby is working there currently and I pray for his safety every single day! This area on Kinsmen is where my husband's grandmother house is, lawd! Someone already vandalized his car a few weeks ago. Im so glad I moved from there years ago but hell Atlanta is not any better! Everyday I wake up and turn on the news, someone has been shot to death here too, nowhere is safe! God please stop all this violence, I beg of you! In Jesus name!

  • Ms.Capricorn101

For some reason I'm not buying this. I hope the gun didn't accidentally go off inside the car & their blaming it on a drive-by shoot out.

  • MissyJ

This is the 3rd child killed in a month in Cleveland during some adult's mess

  • SummerBaby

I have uncles & cousins in Cleveland. This is heartbreaking. I can't imagine losing a child especially an infant. RIP ????

  • Tammie Reed

Everytime I talk to someone from there, they seem VERY depressed and unmotivated, glad I moved!

  • SummerBaby

My uncles refuse to move. One was jumped, beaten & robbed awhile back. ?

  • stav

Senseless, and so painful, please pray for all involved.

  • Str8tUpMenace

Hmmmm, you may have a point, since no one else was hit. You never know with people these days

  • Liz

It is strange with all those adults in a car the only person hit was the little baby. Either way its just sad, that poor lady has to bury her child

My heart breaks. No excuse. NONE. You want to shoot a gun, join the military.

  • Cricket404

I played on this street, the house with the Direct TV is one of my father's rentals. We moved out in 1976 and headed for the suburbs. My hometown is at war with a gang called the Heartless Felons/Bloods, they have been responsible for killing 3 kids in the last 30 days. Cleveland is only 350,000 people and this is the east side so the population is half that. The steel mills, rubber mills and factory jobs have been closed since the mid 80's, crack came in the late 80's and 90's, these are the children of the strawberry's of the 90's who were impregnated by random ninja's. Pray for Cleveland.

  • Tammie Reed

My friends there that mainly rent houses or are on section 8 think its ok to be there. I understand that everyone do not have the finances to just up and leave but I'd be damn if I live in the city, I would move somewhere far away for sure!

I went home a few months ago and got the hell outta there! It was very depressing and nothing to do! Looks like Flint, Michigan, dried up, boarded up ran down houses, pot holes everywhere, I can't... my kids deserve better!

  • Str8tUpMenace

Charlemagne calls em the fatherless babies of the crack babies. *sad*

  • Tammie Reed

Thats the name of that gang my bestie was telling me about. I couldn't think of it at the time, wow, I pray for my family every single day thats there! Thats right by where my husband's family live.

  • SummerBaby

I was in Flint & Detroit last year. It was very depressing. I remember how it used to be when I was a kid visiting in the summers.

  • Tammie Reed

Ive been there once and I was shocked and ready to go, I was there for a press trip with Ford.

  • Cricket404

Apparently members of the Heartless Felons hit up a railroad train full of guns and ammunition. They are more armed than most policemen and they are literally driving down streets and open firing on civilians. They shot up a barber's shop this summer and killed 6 people, and killed witnesses that were to testify in their driveways. These boys are 25 and under and all met in juvenile detention and supposedly run the prison yards.

  • SecretVoice

I hope your husband will be safe as well but please Atlanta is no where near Cleveland.

In any big city or even small city like the one where the killer mowed down people at an Oregon college yesterday, murders happen. The worst problem that's occurring in Atlanta, are the car break-ins around the city.

RIP to the baby girl who is indeed a victim of senseless violence.

  • iWasteTime

This and countless mass shootings ans the GOP wants to have a military presence in Syria, have one at the schools and public places have the NG in these out of control cities, and not just when chit is popping of.

  • Tammie Reed

I saw that on the news and all the burglaries too! Geesh!

  • SecretVoice

    Everything is not about politics.....

Focus on the humanity of a baby killed.

  • Cricket404

Those jobs are gone. My family moved from Louisiana and Mississippi to Detroit and Flint and worked for the automobile industry and made good money- middle class money. They weren't college educated, some didn't even graduate high school but they knew how to work hard and were able to get married, buy a house for their family and take care of their children. Those jobs are gone and folks not moving to where the jobs are like they used to, they are staying put and living in poverty.

  • SecretVoice

Right....They are breaking in stores at malls and are having massive car break-ins.This has been going on for a minute but people are still dumb enough to leave devices such as GPS/phones and laptops in cars....SMH.

  • Cricket404

Half the houses on my parents street have been demolished. I can't even find a good place to eat when I go home, if I do I'm the only brown one there. Houses that I used to look at in awe are now very affordable but I wouldn't take the chance, heck my cousins might rob me.

  • Jusstlookn2

Checking back in later, this is unbearable. My heart and mind can't deal with the loss of this baby.

  • iWasteTime

Focus on getting your feelings together.

Focus on exacting change so no other baby is killed.
As you question my humanity, question your on.
There is no Humanity in a baby being killed, the INHUMANITY of the act and any act of violence is where focus should be.
Everything does not need a comment, you don't like what I said, how I said it or how I said it, go by it.

  • Winner

Why can't they shoot Zimmerman tho? Self-hate.

  • https://www.etsy.com/shop/AMarieNaturals Lovezoe

Ma'am. How can we as a nation be okay with dropping bombs on other countries, but not take care of our own neighborhoods. They can call the NG when a CVS is burned, but not when cities like Cleveland and Chicago are at their own civil war. Good day.

  • Unita Lucinda “Lucy” Freebush

    I'm going to agree with this...the 80's children's children.

  • morenYAHdelsur

My gosh, that poor baby ? See, this ish right here breaks me up! How does this happen?!

  • morenYAHdelsur

It's a mess everywhere I guess. Here in New Orleans I fear for my husband's safety because these criminals are brazen! They're killing folks downtown, Canal St. Uptown, Garden District! It's crazy. No lie, change happens when it affects the city's $$, so if it happens to tourists, change or at least recognition is inevitable.

  • Ladysweetthang

Unless the baby wasn't strapped down and on her ratchet lap. Idk but there are a bunch of ratchets that have 5 kids under the age of 8 who never ride in car seats. But idk only speculation.

  • MookieFly

The pain that poor child must have went through fighting for its life. Horrible. What is also horrible is that picture of Danny Glover you have up top

    R.I.P. Baby Girl.............

  • Ladysweetthang

Sad for our people. I can understand your story. If only people wanted better they would act better , live better and strive for change. Many people say role models "people doing good" should stay and be a role model for kids in the hood. But why risk your safety. They don't realize that the fear of safety is a stress equivalent to a heart attack. Killing ourselves with fear I couldn't do it any longer and I'm glad I moved.

  • MookieFly

I have family right now in Chicago that have roots, traditions, neighborhood presence in the streets and refuse to leave despite pleas, although the area around the place is crumbling. Boarded up buildings, one 5-6 houses on a block because the rest got tore done, empty lots full of needles and other dangerous shyt, etc.

  • Ladysweetthang

That's the reason why kids are killing each other there is a war a war that they live daily and only understand. No jobs, nearly no section 8 and a lack of opportunities and resources. Sad

  • Ladysweetthang

Wishing your husband and family safety. I could understand that stress and it's rough out in these streets.

  • Ladysweetthang

I also wish your husband and family safety. Sad that people have to live like this .

“Someone was shooting at our car and they shot the baby".....Officers said only the child was struck. She was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she died.........

RIP to this baby girl. I'm from Cleveland and I am very familiar with this neighborhood. This is affecting me on a personal level.

  • OfficialDime

Lol Lebron said accept more instead of expect more!!!???? #FinishCollegeFool

  • Kilroy

I used to visit Cleveland during the summer every year. I would play and hang out in that area on E138th Street back then. That's where my cousins lived. It was a neighborhood of good hard working people back then.
    I had heard it changed.
    RIP little one.

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

It's truly sad. I live here and it's heartbreaking to witness all this senseless killing.

  • SecretVoice

Oh yes it's a mess everywhere. They are brazen in Atlanta as well but it's not like Chicago or Cleveland perhaps even New Orleans. There seems to be everywhere who just feel "life" has no worth,so they will kill anyone for anything.

So they're killing people in the tourist district too....I will say this, many whites are being targeted with these mass car break ins, which was never the norm here, but many are just plain stupid too because they leave stuff in vehicles.

I hope your husband will be okay as well.....Infact I hope the girls/women will be okay in these areas because black women are killed everyday by these criminals.

  • SameoleJ

The write up alone, hurt my heart. My prayers go out to the family, especially the parents.

  • nucynu25

Exactly , a man was robbed uptown while riding his hike. These mf crazy, what the hell you think a man on a bike hve?

  • yallcrazy

Hi Tammie I live here in Cleveland and ive been avoiding all those bad areas and just watching my surroundings. It is so true. I hate living here. Im kinda glad its about to get cold and snow real bad so some of this will stop. Cant be no gangster when its freezing. So sad for the babys mom. I know she aint no more good.

  • yallcrazy

I live in Euclid. A low grade suburb. It used to be nice. All the sprites have left this community. Its like 90% black now.

  • Tammie Reed

    Waving hello, stay safe! xoxo

  • Cbankz

Thought I was the only one that caught that ?

  • i troll it like i see it

last sentence made me tear up, I'd be no good anymore either...

  • yallcrazy

    Thank you Lady! You too

    Damn rip ?

  • 1/8

Until we find a way to stop ignorant people from breeding, this senseless violence will continue.

    Do black lives REALLY matter?

    I thought Lebron had 4 kids ??

  • Liz

I hate to see young girls with their babies just sliding around in the backseat. I always curious about where is their family? I have 8 nieces and nephews and not one of their parents had to buy a car seat, stroller nothing for them. As family that is something we bought for them because having a child is expensive.

  • LordeAmbler

Accept more from yourself or Expect more from yourself. I think he got those two confused. They obviously accepted something of themselves including negligence.

  • SpiceGirl

another angel has her wings.....so sad! this brought a tear to my eye
