Leila Aquino

A woman whose 2-year-old daughter died in a house fire while she was working at a strip club will be indicted in her daughter's death.

Leila Aquino, 20, was dancing the night shift at the Cityscapes Gentlemen's Club when a fire broke out at her Bedford-Stuyvesant home on Feb. 23.

After completing her shift, Aquino returned home at 6:45 a.m. to find firefighters battling a blaze that consumed her home. The firefighters told her that her toddler was dead.

Aquino faces counts of criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the NY Post.

Aquino had been investigated by the Administration for Children’s Services before the incident. But she was cleared of negligence in those prior incidents.

Agree that she should be charge, but the pain that that young lady will feel over the loss of that beautiful child far exceeds any punishment handed down by the courts.

  • Karma WhO

Left the baby home.alone...smdh rip baby
    ..rot n hell mother! !

  • AnonymousRose

Lord, she gonna need some support. She's 20, she made a horrific mistake,. I'm not gonna condemn her to hell. But this is about to be a tough ride for her. I hope her little one did not suffer. Sad, very hurtful. These young women need some guidance, some support, and truly some love, this is awful

  • Jane Doe

Unfortunately she did...when they found the little girl she was under the bed gripping the the wheel..she probably petrified when she felt that heat and saw them flames..I hope the mother feels the same when she goes straight to hell

  • That’s Interesting

She knew better. I know 16 year old parents who are more responsible. You never leave kids home alone. She was dancing all night. Throw her under the jail. So sad that little baby died in a fire alone??????. God has her now.

  • Look@m3

Wait What did I just read? Like Im done for tonight....I was just mad because I missed the stripper job fair last week for a new strip club but you mean to tell me you can strip and still cant afford a sitter? Nah, nah...nah..

  • Look@m3

Whet?????? where you read that at...I cant take anymore of this story if that's the case.

  • che’lint

    where is the father? SMH

  • che’lint

if she had that kind of cash she could afford a babysitter.

  • Auditor

    DAMN

  • Auditor

So did the baby start the fire?!!?

  • Jane Doe

No..because it was winter, the mother left a portable heater on to keep the baby warm while she went to shake her ass for cash..guess she cared about her somewhat cause she knew the house was cold *insert sarcasm*

  • Auditor

    Damn...so sad...

  • Lisa daniels

Exactly, she don't know no old ladies in bedsty that could have watched her child. My uncle would have watch for a six pack and a box of cigarettes. Ijs

  • Lisa daniels

    Dumb bitch

  • PK

    what a dumb bitch

  • PK

She probably kept him from seeing his child

  • Da Puppet Mistress

This. ? Lady who helped us RAISE Dub11. Would watch her for a Pepsi and a carton. This was on weekends if we wanted to step out. Our normal rate, for daily childcare? $80 a week. She STILL loves her some Dub11. Sent her $30 and a note of encouragement for her 5th grade graduation last week.

Bish you know not NOBODY? Foh.?

  • Let Your Soul Glow

That's so sweet. An 88 y.o. friend of the family still writes long notes of encouragement and blessings to everyone she knows for all birthdays and anniversaries and other milestones. They are always so touching.

  • AnonymousRose

Ughhh, that JUST made me sick....G.N

  • Da Puppet Mistress

When I say my ex husband teared up I showed him on Saturday? She had a sweet spot for his ass too. He worked literally up street from her for YEARS. She would make his WORK crew lunch at least 2-3 times a week, and they would pay her WELL. She like his surrogate NC mom. She sat on groom side at our wedding. ??she early 60s.

  • Lisa daniels

She ain't tried. She should havevjust made her a cot in back room in the club if she was just going to leave the child along. At least she could have checked on her in between dances. Ijs

  • Da Puppet Mistress

Yep. All of this. I followed this particular case. When I say this and the shoebox of money she showed up with watching her baby burn pissed me off??????

  • Da Puppet Mistress

Used to sleep in managers office of the Hardee's. My mom was manager. Me and other employees kids. Tuh. It was fixed up NICE. Tv. Bunk beds. Wet bar.

  • Victorious82

Damn 6:45am tho. She was out all night not having one f to give about her 2yo left alone in the house. I don't even like taking the trash out when I'm the only one home. Smh.

  • Jane Doe

    She did

  • Lisa daniels

See, exactly what I'm saying. Bish just lazy and trifling.

  • Victorious82

Right. This broad didn't come back till 6:45am!

  • Renay Peters

Not for nothing Im sure ths was NOT TH OUTCOME SHE INTENDED for her daughter. She is NO CASEY ANTHONY and should be given coinseling FORCED EDUCATION A JOB VOLUNTEER WORK! Make something of her life.NO JAIL TIME!

  • Jane Doe

She first lied to the cops and said she left tha baby with the babysitter...the cops went to interrogate the babysitter and she stated she had stop working with the mother months prior because she wouldn't pay her

  • PK

    Ugh...makes me sick

  • Da Puppet Mistress

As a mom and a product of one, who done looked the struggle of parenting in the eye? I have zero fux allocated for stuff like this. Not nah. Draya. Never getting a pass from me. Age a factor. 20. Yeah. I was stupid. Not this stupid tho. I don't even give Tamika Fuller downstairs a full pass off age. You not stupid. Come on.

  • Jane Doe

Would u leave a 2 yr old alone? It doesn't matter what was "intended"..she was 2 for gods sake..u can't even leave a 2 yr old in another room without wondering what they're doing

  • Da Puppet Mistress

You been following this like ME.Preach! First thing I said. Oh this the hoe with shoebox fulla money at scene. Wouldn't pay sitter tho!

  • Da Puppet Mistress

Can't leave a damn 4-5 yo. My nephew get quiet it's: lil dude what are you doing in there ?

  • Let Your Soul Glow

Bless her heart. She sounds like a doll! Folks like that bless me, my prayer is they get it back in return 100 fold.

  • Jane Doe

    Exactly

  • Mssugamoma

    "Well"

  • Allihave2say

She could have put her in a 24 hr daycare while she went to work.

  • Diva_woman

Everybody doesn't deserve to be a parent. It's not what she was doing when the fire happened, it's the fact that she left her 2 year old at home by herself through the night. If she's been investigated before this was not a one time incident and this was most likely not the first night she left the child home alone. I feel so sorry for that poor baby girl.

  • Diva_woman

Sounds like she should have put the child up for adoption or given her to a family member. She was investigated before and clearly she wasn't fit to parent if her best option was to leave a 2 year old at home through the night. This was probably routine behavior for her.

  • Auditor

    Lovely

  • Auditor

    Where they have those at?!?!

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

Under no circumstances can you leave a toddler home solo. Poor baby...

  • Allihave2say

    I own one.

  • lovelygamour

theres a fine line between negligence and being poor. new york is expensive. this is so sad. i guess she figured the baby would be sleep. she shouldve cut her shifts short. a lot of girls team up on a babysitter. i wonder was she keeping the kid a secret.

  • Auditor

Oh ok cause I've NEVER heard of it...even on a military base...nope nada

  • Renay Peters

Didn't say she deserves cool points for leaving her child alone. But she dont deserve to be treated likeva caged animal for something she didnt intend to happen. Again shes NOT CASEY ANTHONY. THEN WE WONDER WHY folks of color get harsher punishment for comitting a lesses crime. An idiot she was. A monster she was NOT!

  • S T

Now THIS is the gorilla that should be shot for endangering a child.

  • che’lint

Aquino had been investigated by the Administration for Children’s Services before the incident. But she was cleared of negligence in those prior incidents. Wow!
A lot of people failed to protect this little girl.

  • ifixstudentloans

Thotsicle..lol I needed that word in my life

  • the guest

How does someone leave their helpless two year old baby alone in the house? She didn't feel any instincts about protecting her baby? The baby could have awoken and fallen down stairs not to even imagine the worst perishing in a fire.

The father can't be possibly be present and she can't possibly have any community to help with child care or she could just simply be irresponsible and careless.

    This is tragic.

  • the guest

For sure he is absent. This baby mama baby daddy epidemic is wrong on so many levels. This 20 year old inherited a value system that placed her in a terrible situation. Even just as an experiment, three generations of blacks and afro-latinos need to finish college and marry first then have babies. To heal this epidemic. This young mother should have been home with her baby.

  • the guest

I cant imagine why a mother would prefer to be at a vulgar strip club than at home with her baby.

  • the guest

Portable heaters are terribly dangerous. What an ignorant and irresponsible mother.

  • the guest

This is cultural too. Let me explain. In the Caribbean some old fashioned folks call sleeping babies and children "island babysitter". In some cultures tucking the children to sleep and parents going out for a drink or to a party is not uncommon. No one expects a fire.

  • MsVAllDay

You shaking your azz and don't have enough 1's to pay a babysitter! GTFOH sorry azz parenting!

  • Simoneé Blanco

In big cities like New York and Chicago have them all over.

  • country57

She has to be held accountable for her criminal act. Yes it is a CRIME to leave a child unattended. But for her actions her child would still be alive. That is not a minor crime, it's a felony. RIP sweet angel.

  • country57

No jail time? That child died a horrible death because of her mother.

  • jussaying

this is so sad. I don't know if she was dumb, ignorant, poor or all three but it doesn't seem like she intended for this to happen. I wonder if she was in NYC alone and if she had a support team at all. this is a testament to how we are in this day and age. when my parents grew up, they knew their neighbors and said neighbors may have been willing to watch someone's child for a bit or at least to check in on the child. the more advanced technologically we become as a society, the more alone we seem to be.

  • Hugga Bunch

Not every woman who gives birth to a child is a mother.

  • NYTimes#1Bestseller

    Amen

  • Auditor

Oh ok thanks for the info

  • lovelygamour

My mother gave me a test run when I was about 6.
I think parents need to factor in where they live. Especially now that we have nanny cams.

  • YES I SAID IT…

I cannot imagine leaving my 3 year old home to come back and my child is dead! This selfish careless THOT will have to live with the thought that her lifestyle and choice to go out into the nightlife for some money has cost her, her child’s life. 20’s years old and stripping so that means the child’s father is not present or involved in the child’s life bcuz if he was the actions of the mother wouldn’t be so but then again a THOT is a THOT and no one can change that. All I know is where the Fk is the grandparents, family member, or babysitter? I’m so mad right now, poor baby suffered a senseless death, and may she RIP!

  • LibraGirlonly

It's no words for this type of BS. Poor baby.

  • Wuts got Petty Davis Eyes..

Ala Andrea..minus the fire...I wonder how many women do this? I mean it is too many teen kids you can pay to watch your kid for a few bucks at night. Why leave them alone like this? This woman didn't have relatives, nieces or aunties nothing?

  • SpillyNillie

Was this poor baby left alone at home or with another child?

  • sunni_daze

In today's segement of "Nothing Ass Mothers"

  • sunni_daze

    Amen

  • shell

    Trashy hoe

  • ramosyo

Took them long enough with her lying a** ??????She first tried to say the baby was with a sitter

  • shell

Irresponsible and careless. Its not the communities fault she has probably done it before. She even lied to the police and try to blame the babysitter and the child's father. So she ain't shit

  • shell

Too much sympathy for this hoe. This story is not the total truth. She had never called the sitter because the sitter refused to work for her anymore since she owed the sitter over $200, the girls great grandfather owns and lives in the building. She could of called him, or her mother OR the little girls father or family to babysit. She was too lazy to travel and bring the baby to be watched by someone. Her own family saod all she cared about was going out and chasing fast money and men. She went to work then left early to go out and party with her new boyfriend. She left the girl home alone in front of the TV all night like she has done before because she ain't shit.

  • http://yeuphonic.com @yeuphonic

Follow the link then the next link and you'll find this

"When Aquino arrived home to find the tragic scene, she was carrying a box that contained $980 — all in $1 bills"

Firefighters didn't even know there was a child in the building until she arrived. There's even a photo of them taking the baby out in a white body bag

  • ShWa

No jail time??? She can get all of those perks and rehab while sitting in jail, no excuse for leaving a baby alone while u go strip and visit boyfriend......

  • free

she lived rent free in a building owned by her family. she also wasn't working that night; she was partying.

  • Genia Gouch

so she left the child home alone?

  • ebonics

Oh wow what a horrible pos mother. That is soo soo sad, I feel for that precious innocent baby girl. Some people should not be allowed to have children. They are a blessing and a gift.

  • ebonics

    Fa real!!!

  • ebonics

Exactly!! I could never leave a child under 10 home alone, esp to go out chasing d*ck and money. Just despicable ..

  • yallcrazy

And with an electric heater running. Everybody know those things are dangerous. Poor baby probably knocked it over and something caught fire. I was little and left alone locked in a bedroom before. To this day I am still traumatized. I was around 5. I woke up crying and trying to get out the door. I cried and cried and nobody came. I was on a third floor attic room of my aunt house and I remember trying the windows but was not strong enough. And thank God I wasn't. My aunt was supposed to be watching me. It seemed forever that she came back.

  • Kirenee

Ok... Here I am at 45 y/o wanting to adopt since my son is beyond grown.. If this tale shaking chick gonna leave this little cutie home alone, she could've sent her to me. I'm loving, have morals/values, educated, have been an excellent parent, SELFLESS, and financial secure. Really??? I pray she didn't suffer in that fire.

  • Enoughsaid2020

Rest in peace little one. She needs to be put under the jail, leaving a helpless child to take care of themself. SMH!

  • TheMove

    Me tooooo!!! ???

  • BLOODBLOOD

    ?????

  • Jessica

My heart goes out to that beautiful little girl. May she rest in peace with The Lord. As far as her mama, I will not judge. Yes, she was very wrong for leaving that baby alone, but what were her circumstances? Was she not able to find a job to take care of her baby? Was this night job her only option? Where is the child's father? Does she not have a "village" to help with the baby?

Bad mistake, however, I won't condemn her. There's just too much info that we don't have.

  • Kay

I'm from STL. I went to Atlanta for the first time about 3-4 years ago at the age of 27. That was my first time ever even thinking much less seeing a 24 HR day care. I think that's a big city thing. Or cities that have lots of strip clubs. Idk.

  • keimaguire

she came home with a shoe box full of money and did not want to pay the baby sitter for her services smh

  • Auditor

I've lived in a lot of big cities (not ATL though) and never heard of such a thing. But then again I don't have kids and don't hang with folks that do either...so what do I know!?! Lol

  • Kay

Lol! I know when I was in Atlanta it seemed like there was one on every corner. Then I thought, a ton of young girls go down there and have children. Someone looked around and was like whose watching all these kids? Some one is down there balling off 24 hour day cares. I might have to get that going here. Lol!

  • lovelygamour

Thats horrible. A person described the concept of an "islabd babysitter" earlier in the thread but this woman stayed out way too late. Sad.

  • Auditor

Lol that was me and doggie day care...huge demand in all the cities I've lived. And much easier than children lol.

  • AListDiva29

It doesn't say exactly so I'm assuming the girl was home alone? She couldn't of paid someone a few bucs to watch her child for one night? Obviously this "mother" was too young and selfish to take care of a child smdh!
