Jay-Z defended LaVar Ball‘s decision to launch his own Big Baller Brand footwear to compete with NIKE brand. Jay-Z backed BBB by ordering 3 pairs of ZO2 sneakers for $1,000 a pair!

Jay-Z told Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson and B.Dot that he’s backing Big Baller Brand because it’s important for him to support black businesses.

In an interview with TNN TV over the weekend, Jay-Z said of LaVar Ball:

“That man has a vision of his own. Why wouldn’t I support him? Why wouldn’t I support him? He feels like he can move culture, and his son got a big enough name, and a big enough brand, that they can do it. Nike had to start somewhere. Why do we get so upset when we, us as a culture wanna start our own shut? that sh-t is puzzling to me. Like, I sit back and I;m like: this makes no sense.”

LA Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball was spotted shopping at Louis Vuitton in Beverly Hills over the weekend. When asked about Jay-Z’s endorsement of his Big Baller Brand, Lonzo was blown away.

“I’m just thankful man. Appreciate it,” he said, adding that he doesn’t oversee the business end of the Big Baller Brand. “I just play basketball man. I don’t handle that.”

Lonzo also said although he’s never met Jay-Z, he wanted to thank him and let him know that the coveted basketball shoes will arrive sooner than later.

I’m not into gym shoes sneakers like that. So my two pair of walmart nikes should last me for another three years.

  • deanya

? he’s trying to sell a brand that doesn’t have a big name behind it and his “brand ” isn’t real . People already hate him and his dad and he hasn’t even played a real NBA game yet . Also 500 for shoes and don’t talk about j’s cause unless they are collectable you ain’t spending more than 200 . Dude is to cocky and his shoes cost to much ….

  • thrift.store.jungle

his money, his prerogative. as for ME… i wouldn’t even spend $17.98 on these lousy shoes. no thank u.

  • You Could Never

LaVar Ball is always going to be a braggadocious, arrogant prick to me. Much like the Stabber ALSO is to me. Isnt that ironic (in my Foxy Brown Get Me Home featuring Blacksteet voice)? The list of folks both have dragged or shitted on is long. Of course he supports dude’s “vision”. FOH Shawn Carter. Go look dead at the eclipse.

  • LuLu

    But….but…they’re ugly!

  • Kanyade

“look dead at the eclipse” LOL

My boss keeps hopping up every two minutes to go outside and look at that thing.

    Sneakers are meh.

  • Jen_no_juice

That’s great, especially since Jay Z cam afford them. Clearly at 1,000 a pair that’s the target market the BBB is looking for

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

I’m sorry, but a shoe has to really jump out at me if I’m going to drop $1000 on them. I have a pair Giuseppe Zanotti shoes that I adore. They look like they were left behind by gay space aliens! Every time I wear them, I give the children fever.

  • Vonn

Lonzo looks like Herman Munster. Yup.

  • Quitedeliteful

Maybe I’m crazy but I like the shoes — maybe not $1,000.00 worth of likes but I like them. I also like JZ for supporting the brother — even though his father has a big arse mouth…

  • Quitedeliteful

LOLLOLLOL!!!!!!!!!!!! (scrolls back up and agrees with you…)

  • Quitedeliteful

    LOLLOLLOLLOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Quitedeliteful

LOLLOLLOLLOL!!!!!!!! Come on!!! They not that bad….. How about $17.98 with a ten dollar off coupon???

  • Mrs.Meenie

I like the white, yellow and purple pair, they are cute but $1,000.00……no sir. I rather take my stack and take a trip and see the beautiful wonders of this world that God created. These shoes are not for the community they are for the rich and wealthy.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

I’m not giving that ole big mouth my money so his ugly kids, can turn around and support their nigga shouting white girlfriends. Black owned business where 100% of the proceeds go straight to white women. I’ll pass.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

A so called black man married to a white woman. Who’s off spring also date white woman. Not a black woman in sight. Not supporting that mess.

  • thrift.store.jungle

lol ? possibly with the coupon AND some sort of BOGO deal.

  • Quitedeliteful

    LOLLOLLOLLOL!!!!!!!!!!

  • what?why

Jay Z is right on this – the black community does not support each other. Kinda like a jealousy thing. The Irish and some other cultures have that but when it gets down to the nitty gritty they rise up.

  • LuLu

    LOL! I guess…

  • dontgetblocked

Good job, Jay Z even though those shoes are ugly.

  • bemetoo

yes jay z is right but how and who in the black community can support another black up and coming business when prices start at 1000

  • bemetoo

thats right that money aint going to no black person

  • Li

Who’s producing the shoe? $1000 for a shoe — nah, no way.

  • Li

Who in the hell in the black community, besides the elite upper class, have $1000 for sneakers? And besides, that makes the shoes THEFT bait. I wouldn’t want my kid in those shoes so he can get shot up.

  • YouWontSayItButIWill

    Right the hell on!

  • YouWontSayItButIWill

Don’t let Jay-Z fool you. He is NOT for the black community.

  • JENNYJONES1

AHH ALL OF THE SAME NEGROS THAT HAVE 5,6,7,8 PAIR OF CL RED BOTTOM SNEAKERS THAT ARE $1200, $1300 EVEN $2000. IDIOTS FIND MONEY FOR WHAT THEY WANT……JENNY JONES!!!

  • BacktolurkingIgo

I ujnderstand about supporting each other but no mamn said Pam….

  • Wayup!

“I don’t handle the business side of a it”!!!!?
I swear these B players are cash rich and mentally poor..?

  • Mark mcharm

He trust his father to run the business

  • Mark mcharm

that price is wrong they are 495 dollars but we buy gucci so we can support bob

  • Doink_Ahanahue

Agreed! And why does every (or most) Black owned business have to come in and charge exorbitant prices for a simple product. ESPECIALLY knowing how many if not most Blacks will pay ridiculous money just to SAY they got it 1st. Make it a reasonable price that won’t get people killed over the shoes. That’s what made me stop buying Jordans. (personal opinion) Young Black Men were literally killing each other over them and they were (are) ridiculously priced… smh

  • Andy Brown

But that trust is a mistake because his father is an idiot dumbass too. White people are actually day to day running that business.

  • Andy Brown

    In many instances, that’s true.
But this is not truly a black business.

  • Andy Brown

Say bruh, you definitely hit the nail on the head with that comment. This is a sad excuse for a black business.

  • Mark mcharm

Oh trust me i know they have cracker investors ? they have a few black people that cut them loans also. lavar ball is annoying.

  • Doink_Ahanahue

Most truly “rich people” are too smart to pay $495 for a sneaker.

  • Andy Brown

Yeah. He did sound Ultra dumb by saying that. But then again he “is” a basketball player, so academic competency was not required for his curriculum. And making matters worse is that he may have inherited the “DUHHH” chromosome from his father.

  • Andy Brown

    Yeah man. Very true!

  • YellowSauce

Beyonce trusted her father also .. Listen I don’t trust anyone to run MY shit but maybe the way their relationship is set up ….. lol

  • ChocolateChick84

Well, his mama is white so I’m sure he trusts white people also.

  • starbright9449

I think Jay was referring to rich blacks and black celebs who are always buying Versace and other big name white owned brands.
