President Trump Sheriff Joe Arpaio

President Donald Trump is preparing to pardon Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio. CNN reports that the White House has prepared the paperwork for Trump to pardon the sheriff who was found guilty of criminal contempt last month for violating a court order in an immigration case.

During his rally in Arizona on Tuesday, Trump hinted that he would pardon Arpaio who faces prison time when he is sentenced on October 5.

Sheriff Arpaio was rumored to make an appearance at Trump’s rally on Tuesday, but he was a no-show.

Before the rally, Trump hinted that he would pardon Arpaio, but Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, who ordered Trump to cancel Tuesday’s rally, said the president would “inflame passions” if he pardoned Arpaio at the rally.

“I won’t do it tonight because I don’t want to cause any controversy,” Trump told the crowd of 15,000 supporters.

“I’ll make a prediction,” Trump added. “I think he’s going to be just fine.”
