President Trump picked the wrong time to finally respond to LeBron James’ many digs at his presidency.
After watching Don Lemon’s interview with James on CNN Friday night, Trump dropped a late-night bombshell that shook even hard-core Trump haters.
“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!”
The last sentence was in reference to the ongoing debate over the NBA’s g.o.a.t. (greatest of all time). Trump chose Michael Jordan over James — the ultimate insult to James fans.
“What would you say to President Trump if you were sitting across from him?” Lemon asked the L.A. Lakers power forward.
“I wouldn’t sit across from him,” James replied.
While James’s statements about Trump may have been scripted by CNN, his words were a low blow to the president, who managed to ignore James’s many insults leading up to Friday night.
Naturally, the response to Trump’s tweet was swift and brutal. Some folks stayed up all night giving the president a piece of their mind on Twitter.com.
Many users reminded Trump that his tweet came at the worst possible time — just days after James opened a $8 million elementary school for academically at-risk youth in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
Actress Holly Robinson-Peete tweeted:
“But No comment about his remarkable #IPromiseSchool and the young SMART Americans it will propel… you keep setting new lows. It’s so pathetic #DumbDonald”.
The @palmerreport tweeted: “Donald Trump has berserk late-night meltdown about LeBron James after everything goes horribly wrong for him”.
@jaredsawyerjr wrote: “Come on now dude. That’s petty. You’re the president of the United States and you’re worried about an interview with LeBron James. Get your priorities together”.
And someone posted this fake tweet from a Michael Jordan parody account.
Trump’s supporters were also active in the comments, but Twitter buried their tweets so they were difficult to find.
