Pastor Jamal Bryant caused waves at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church when he redirected Kanye West’s donation to Atlanta’s Morris Brown College in the name of Kanye’s late mom, Donda West.

Kanye held his popular “Sunday Service” at Bryant’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Before the service Kanye presented Bryant with a sizable donation for the church.

But on Sunday, Oct. 13, Bryant told his congregation he didn’t want Kanye’s money after the rap musician expressed his support for President Trump and the Republican Party in Utah.

“Abraham Lincoln was the wig party, that’s the Republican party that freed the slaves,” Kanye told the crowd of about 9,000 worshipers in Utah.

Bryant was livid.

“I went into prayer, and it dawned on me in prayer that Dr. Donda West, who was the mother of Kanye West, is a former professor at Morris Brown College,” Bryant said on Sunday.

Bryant said he was redirecting Kanye’s donation to Morris Brown in Donda West’s name.

“I am not a runaway slave,” Bryant said.

“To that end, Mr. West made a significant donation to New Birth Cathedral, but I do not want to be guilty of double speech. I met with my team today and the donation that he made to our church, I am now redirecting.

“I am thankful for the gift, thankful the seed, thankful for the sacrifice but I don’t want to be seen in any way, shape or form to be seen in cahoots with philosophy or with policies that keep our people in bondage.

Bryant went on to say he was “not a preacher that can be bought or comes with a price tag.”

Morris Brown College has been in dire straits financially since losing its accreditation in 2002. Only 50 students out of 2,700 remain on the historic campus.
